As above. Those are the units that I could use in my existing army (note the lack of Phoenix guard).

I chose Fred, but now I'm Romana. Just goes to show how bureacracy works.

Tell us the rest of your army and we can give better advice, perhaps a few words on your playing style too...

Sorry for putting this in AOD, it was a mistake...
Anyway, I adopt an agressive approach to Warhammer: Strike fast, leave none alive.
Skirmishers are great in my opinion: but Swordmaster type infantry are also good.
I'm not too big on cavalry. I'm more an archer general.
So, in short:
THE GOOD
Ranged Units
Cheap units
Skirmishers
Things that strike first
THE BAD
Great weapons
Lances
However I'm relatively new, so don't hesitate to correct me. I've only just begun with HE.

That seems a bit contradictory.. You want strike hard and fast, basically cavalry are the only thing that do that for you. They move faster than infantry, and they hit hard with lances.

Go for silver helms. They rock. wink.gif

Also, when you get the money, get some Reavers aswell. They really suit a fast, hard hitting army and I find essential to any HE army... Theyre great for getting around the enemies flanks and assisting your regiments in winning combats...

Sorry guys bur Ellyrian Reavers are not worth it. They have a 5+ armour save (cannot be improved) & are only really any good if you have them with bows, by that time there already a point more than fully equiped Silver Helms. You other guys can use what you want i'm just rambaling about the many faults that Ellyrian Reavers have.

I think Silver Helms would really suit you for your Strike fast, leave none alive role.

Reavers are definitely not essential, I've played without them every game I've played with High Elves. But they are also far from useless, if they match your playing style and you learn how to use them well they can be a great choice. Don't knock a unit until you know how to use it. And if they are so bad, then why is it phoenix guard and seaguard constantly being complained about for revisions, and reavers never get a mention?

Swordmasters and spearmen only have 5+ saves, are they crap too then? huh.gif

Funny how some Dark Elf players win battles with armies mainly consisting of units almost identical to reavers. That is how useless they are smile.gif
