We played on 1500 points, I brought:
Mage, lvl 2, ring of fury, silver wand (High magic – rolled (and changed) to FotP, FoK and SoS) Mage, lvl 2, seerstaff, jewel of dusk (High magic, took FotP and FoK) 18x spearmen with FC and warbanner 6x DP with FC, helm of fortune and banner of sorcery 5x DP with FC, ring of corin and ellyrian banner 6x Shadow warriors, shadow walker 5x Shadow warriors RBT RBT My opponent had 2 units of 15 warriors each, 10 longbeards, 10 thunderers, 10 miners, BSB, thane, master engineer, cannon, grudge thrower and flame cannon. I won the roll for the sides and started (since there were hills in both deployment zones, it was only to end first with the deployment), then won the roll for going first and gone first. I had both DP units positioned on the left wing, opposed by both warriors, longbeards and the flame cannon, 5-man SW’s and spearmen with both mages in the center (opposed by the thunderers) and RBT’s and 6-men SW’s on the right wing (opposed by the grudge thrower and entrenched cannon) (without the master engineer). TURN 1: I started with advancing with everything forward and positioned smaller DP’s against flame cannon and first warriors with thane and larger DP’s as to charge thunderers in the next turn (but with the view on the second warriors with BSB). BoS brougt 3 dice, I managed to cast FoK on thunderers (2 hits, 1 dead), ring of Fury (dispelled), SoS (dispelled) and FotP 2x (both times on the cannon, killing 1 crewman). Shooting got another 2 thunderers and 1 warrior down (not much for two RBT’s and 11 SW’s). Dwarf started by blocking my way to the flame cannon. Then shot – cannon shot too close on the DP’s from the flank, flame cannon misfired and thrower hit spermen for 7 hits, 4 casualties. Thunderers killed another 3 and spermen fled. TURN 2: Small DP’s charged warriors with thane, large DP’s charged warriors with BSB. Both broke (test on 5) and got chased down. Magic came in, the two FotP killing the crew by the cannon, and ring of fury and shooting cleared 5 thunderers, making them flee. When opponents grudge thrower misfired killing one crewman, the battle was well over. In the consecutive rounds, I wiped out pretty much everything else (only uncrewed cannon and half of the master engineer remained. I lost 1 RBT (to miners) and larger unit of SW’s (fled off the table after trying to kill the catapult crew). I found out (with a great surprise) that mages still hold RiP spells, even if fleeing (according to the BRB). The performance of DP’s has made me to think of a way how to add more to the list. -------------------- Results record 8th edition (W/D/L) - to the 10-09-07

Enough enthusiasm, I got wiped out today with the same list, facing all cavalry empire - 32 knights (5, 5, 11, 11 men strong), 2 war priests and a steam tank. I managed to destroy one of the big units including priest and a 8 knights of the other, but was killed by the rest. still need some more experience

Good job on defeating the Dwarfs. Maybe against the all-cav Empire you could replace one unit of Shadow Warriors with one unit of Reaver for baiting, fleeing, redirecting etc.

Knowing how tough the Steam Tank is (one of my friends has 8 and another friend has 5) I would sugest maxing out your magic as much as you can even if he is packing 2 priests. -------------------- *Doing The 'Holier Than Thou' Dance* |

It might be all OK if I hit the tank at least once more with the RBT. 2 rounds of shooting made wonderfull 1 wound to it, even with the 2 rerolls from Second sign of Anul... :-(.
For the next battle, I have made some changes (most notably replaced both units of SW's by cav. noble-BSB with Star Lance and another 1 dragon prince model). This should be enough for the next time. (well, I'm not sure of it, but it might be - the no-save attacks from the star lance could work. Tomorrow I will test it on a vampire army with the black coach (or chariot or whatever). Also found out that one of the mages is illegal, having 2 arcane items. Will replace one with a dispell scroll.
