Title: AoD anyone?
strewart - May 17, 2007 09:54 AM (GMT)
Anyone here up for another AoD? Its been a fair while since the last one, I reckon I'll have the energy to actually get one finished this time if there are enough people willing to sign up.

ZeltArruin - May 17, 2007 03:14 PM (GMT)
chaos freek - May 17, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
ya, i'll join. After reading the last one, i've been hoping for another one to get started
strewart - May 20, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
Very well, a new AoD shall begin. Heres the rules, modified from an earlier thread.
No mounts are allowed at all, if you take a Bretonnian the normal rules for requiring mounts is ignored. Full effects for lances will be counted, to account for magical ones.
All characters must be legal as per the rulebook/army book.
There will be no magic.
You can take any hero or lord choices (not special characters) from any army.
Hero choices will be allowed up to 100 points of items just like the lords.
If you want to take shooting characters, if you go first then you will forfeit the charge and shoot instead then also be allowed to stand and shoot. If you don't go first, you will stand and shoot only.
A d6 will be rolled at the start of every round to determine who goes first, they will get all the advantages of charging unless they shoot.
No speculum. Most other items should be fine.
How about a total points limit? Say 350 points limit. Most characters should easily be under that.
As usual, I will randomly determine who fights who and it will be best of 3 fights to determine winners. Submit characters like so:
Player:
Name (of character):
Race/type:
Equipment:
Total points:
Good luck to all. I'll submit a character after a few other people have done so.
Trench_Coat - May 21, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
I'll think about it, I'm just too terribly lazy to go get my bret book, or failing that, go into one of the older AoDs and copying a character of mine over
Dodo - May 23, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
As it seems nobody wants to post his character first, I will do it:
Player: Dodo
Name (of character): Igor Karchoff
Race/type: Blood Dragon Vampire Count
Equipment: Great Weapon, Flayed Hauberk, Obsidian Amulet, Master Strike
Total points: 311
Let me know if this character is legal, as I don't play VC's.
Dodo
strewart - May 24, 2007 01:54 AM (GMT)
Yep, that character is good and legal. Thanks for submitting the first one!
I'd like to aim for 8 characters all up, so keep em coming people.
ZeltArruin - May 24, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Alright, here is my obnoxious Dwarf lord
Player: ZeltArruin
Name: Biff, brother of Cheth the almost hero, son of Druin the misinformed slayer, son of Bagga the drinker of fine goblin brews, brother of Sheela....etc
Race/type: Dwarf Lord
Equipment: Great Weapon, shield bearers if they dont count as a mount, Master Rune of Steel, Rune of Resistance, Rune of Stone, Master Rune of Spite
Total points: 301
Well, yeah, have fun killing him.
strewart - May 24, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
And here is mine.
Player: strewart
Name (of character): Gurgle da Sneaky Git
Race/type: Goblin warboss
Equipment: light armour, lucky's dirk, amulet of protectyness, triksy trinket, spiteful shield
Total points: 148
At only half the points of the characters so far, I don't expect him to do much. But it should be interesting to see if the combo does any good.
The dwarf is legal, and pretty tough by the looks. Shield bearers do count as a mount though.
Captain Rico - May 29, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I have never done an AoD character before. Tell me if this is illegal as I have lost my Hordes of Chaos book.
Player: Captain Rico
Name: Mordrath the Fell
Race/type: Lord of Chaos
Equipment: Mark of Slaanesh, Blade of Blood, Gaze of the Gods, and Pendant
of Slaanesh.
Total points: 350
strewart - May 31, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)
Yep, that character is legal. Though by my calculations he is 320 points, did you forget to mention anything?
He looks quite nasty. Good to see some variations from the usual vampires and lizardmen that dominate these arenas.
We're up to 4 players now. Any more?
Captain Rico - May 31, 2007 12:43 PM (GMT)
Sorry for double post, my PC won't let me edit my damn post. anyway, here is my my new character
Player: Captain Rico
Name: Mordrath the Fell
Race/type: Lord of Chaos
Equipment: Mark of Slaanesh, Blade of Blood, Gaze of the Gods, and Pendant
of Slaanesh, and a shield.
Total points: 323
strewart - July 1, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, this is old I know and I forgot about it and neglected it with the end of uni semester.. But now I'm on holidays and all my exams are finished I'm going to get the AoD done.
There are 4 characters, so I will randomly determine who fights who first. Winners will go on to fight each other to see who is the best, and losers will fight each other for 3rd and 4th place. I'll most likely start it tomorrow. Also, I'm about to PM the other 3 entrants to let them know I'm getting it done.
strewart - July 2, 2007 06:06 AM (GMT)
Round 1:
Igor Karchoff (Dodo) vs Gurgle da Sneaky Git (strewart)
Mordrath the Fell (Captain Rico) vs Biff, brother of Cheth the almost hero, son of Druin the misinformed slayer, son of Bagga the drinker of fine goblin brews, brother of Sheela (ZeltArruin)
edit:
Round 1
Igor took the initiative and charged first, causing 1 wound. In retaliation, the goblin rolled snake eyes to wound and got nothing.
Igor charged again, but this time the armour of the goblin was enough to deflect all attacks. Gurgle struck back with his dirk and caused a wound on the vampire.
Again, Igor charged. This time he lashed out even stronger with his great weapon and caused two wounds, slaughtering the goblin.
Igor wins
Round 2
Igor charged again and struck 2 wounds against the hapless goblin, who struck back and managed 4 hits and 4 wounds! Only 1 was saved, so without a ward (triksy trinket) the vampire fell.
Gurgle wins
Round 3
Spurred on by his success, Gurgle charged and struck first, dealing 3 wounds. The tough armour of the vampire saved two of them though, letting only one slip through under the guard. In angry retaliation, Igor struck back and inflicted two wounds on the goblin.
The little goblin warboss charged again, striking twice with his dirk and dealing two wounds, both of which made their mark on the vampire's undead flesh and he fell to the arena floor!
Gurgle wins
Captain Rico vs ZeltArruin
Round 1
Mordrath struck first, lashing out with the blade of blood several times but the toughness and armour of the Dwarf held up against all the blows. Biff was obviously stunned though, as he failed to make his mark on the Slaaneshi lord at all.
Again, the chaos lord attacked first, this time causing a wound on Biff, the blade of blood glowed and Rico suddenly had more vitality, 4 wounds total. The Dwarf lord struck back dealing two wounds to the Slaanesh worshipper, which instantly caused the pendant around his neck to glow and increase the ferocity of his attacks.
Filled with vigour, Mordrath charged again with 7 attacks, but most bounced off harmlessly while the ward save of the dwarf saved one. In retaliation, Biff struck back and caused another wound, boosting the chaos lord up to 8 attacks but bringing him down to a single wound.
Mordrath charged again, most of his attacks were deflected again but one found its mark, bringing the Dwarf down to one wound and boosting Mordrath up to 2. In retaliation, the Dwarf missed with all his attacks.
Sensing the end was near, Mordrath charged again but still the Dwarf armour held out against the blade of blood and the Dwarf survived. In a similar sense, the Dwarf made his mark on the Chaos worshipper but the ward of the gods protected him.
This time Biff charged first, attacking Mordrath and bringing him down to a single woud again, but in doing so boosted his attacks to 9. In a stunning display of Dwarven smithery, the armour of the Dwarf once again upheld against a punishing blow and the Dwarf survived.
Charging again, Biff caused two wounds, the gods were only abe to avert the damage caused by one blow from the Dwarven great weapon, the other made its mark and knocked Mordrath to the floor.
Biff wins
Second (and third if it happens) rounds to follow tomorrow.
Dodo - July 3, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
Oh no, not the warboss. I thought Igor will lose with Biff, not a filthy stinky goblin. Good job on that one, I see.
Captain Rico - July 3, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
Lol, the dual with Biff and Mordrath had me on the edge of my seat. Good commentating Steve
ZeltArruin - July 3, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
i forgot to switch out my great weapon for a shield. That way the worst my save could be would be a 4+ rerollable. Oh well, at least now I can actually hurt something.

| QUOTE (Rico) |
| Lol, the dual with Biff and Mordrath had me on the edge of my seat. Good commentating Steve |
Why thank you. It was a very close battle and went for a fair while. Here is the following rounds of the fight.
Captain Rico vs ZeltArruin
Round 2
Fueled with energy after his previous round victory, Biff charged in first! His great weapon hacked across
Mordrath's body, but the power of the dark gods saved him from any harm. In return, in a stunning display of
bladework, he hacked at the Dwarf and struck him several times, but his runes glowed bright and Biff only suffered a
single wound. Again, the blade of blood glowed brightly and brought the chaos worshipper up to 4 wounds.
This time, in a rage, Mordrath charged in first sensing he could get the upper hand on the small Dwarf. His blade
swung in low and again found a weak point, bringing the Dwarf down to a single wound. Again, his chaotic blade
glowed brightly, but this time the fickle nature of it showed through and it lashed back at him rather than fueling
him with energy, bringing him down to 3 wounds. Like a pinball machine, his pendant immediately lit up and increased
the ferocity of his attacks. The stunned (and maybe slightly blinded) Dwarf lord flailed to no avail, and was unable
to hit Mordrath at all.
Biff knew he was running out of luck, so took the initiative and attacked first. However, he was again unable to
find a weak point in Mordrath's armour and didn't hurt the chaos lord. In retaliation, Mordrath again lashed out
with fueled vigour, striking Biff hard and knocking him to the ground. Again, the blade of blood glowed, and again
Mordrath shook in pain rather than pleasure at the energy from the blade. It seems he was more able to hurt himself
than the Dwarf was of hurting him!
Mordrath wins
Round 3
Biff was quick to rally from the last round, and keen to prove himself, so charged forward and struck first.
However, again the skill of the chaos lord allowed him to deflect most and the gods of chaos protected Mordrath from
harm. Fighting back, Mordrath swung hard but not hard enough to crack the toughness of the Dwarf lord.
Biff again attacked, and this time his heavy great weapon found its mark on the twisted flesh of the chaos lord and
brought him down to 2 wounds, but fueled Mordrath with ferocity. In return, Mordrath slashed his blade across the
Dwarf's body and wounded him, this time his blade sealed his own wound.
Biff again attacked, this time even harder! His great weapon caused two wounds on the chaos lord dropping him to a
single wound, but boosted his attacks to 8! Despite this, he only managed to sneak past Biff's armour and toughness
on one swing, bringing Biff to 1 wound and boosting him to 2.
Seeing biff severely injured, Mordrath moved in quickly to finish him off. However, the amazing toughness of the
Dwarf held out against the ferocious attack from Mordrath and Biff survived! Attacking back, Biff managed to strike
Mordrath once but the gods of chaos again lent a hand and deflected the strong blow.
Biff charged in, in a last ditch effort to attack, and struck several blows on Mordrath, but the toughness and
armour of the chaos worshipper held out against his attack. In a ferocious retaliation, Mordrath struck the little
Dwarf lord a full 8 times! But in an equally amazing display, Biff's armour and ward managed to deflect everything,
leaving him still standing on his two little feet!
Biff again lashed out first, and hit Mordrath. Hard. The blow knocked Mordrath back and brought him down to a single
wound, but fueled his attacks further through his glowing pendant. Striking hard with an impressive 9 attacks,
Mordrath was finally able to get a single hit through the Dwarf's powerful runic armour and bring Biff to the ground
in a long fought out and hard battle. (FTR, if Mordrath had rolled one higher (he got a 5!) on the blade of blood
roll, he too would have died and the round would have been a draw!)
Mordrath wins
The second round was fairly quick, but both the others were very long and extremely close! These two are very
closely matched. The Dwarf starts off slightly better offensively with the great weapon, but increasing attacks from
wounds suffered brings Mordrath up. The ability to heal wounds also helped Mordrath, while Biff's armour proved very
hard to break for a s5 weapon.
Grand final
Mordrath vs Gurgle
Runner up
Biff vs Igor
I'll do them hopefully tomorrow, if not at least start them and post what I do.
Captain Rico - July 4, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Once again, your description of the battle stunned me. (clap)
Although, the way you said it made me want the plucky dwarf lord to win!
ZeltArruin - July 5, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
If I had my shield bearers....grumble grumble
Hawk - July 5, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
Sorry for asking at a bad time, but what's AoD?
strewart - July 5, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
Stands for Arena of Death. Basically, people post up characters they have made within set guidelines and they are randomly fought against each other. All fights are done by the person running it (me in this one) and results are posted to see who made the best combos.
strewart - July 9, 2007 12:43 PM (GMT)
Here is a bit more, sorry I've had a fair bit on.
Fight for third place
Biff (Dwarf Lord ZeltArruin) vs Igor (Vampire Lord Dodo)
Igor, fired up and keen to prove himself after the narrow loss to the Goblin, charged in valiantly striking Biff!
His attacks bounced off the hardened armour of the Dwarf though. Equally unbalanced, Biff was unable to get through
the vampire's undead flesh.
Biff took the initiative and charged in this time, striking hard at the vampire and sinking a wounding blow through
his magical armour. Igor lashed back but was again unable to break the tough Dwarf's armour.
Biff charged again, tasting blood, and struck the vampire several times. His armour again managed to sustain the
most severe blows, but another injury slipped under his guard as Igor winced in pain. Igor found some form under the
pressure of his injuries and struck back at Biff, causing a wound.
Again Biff charged, sensing victory was near, but he had become overconfident and was unable to get past the
formidable vampire's guard. Igor counter attacked and connected with an exposed part on the short Dwarf, bringing
him too down to a single wound.
The uncharacteristically fast Dwarf again charged in, but his injuries were making a toll on him and he failed to
deliver the killing blow to the Vampire Count. Igor counter attacked again ferociously! The Dwarf stumbled from the
force of the blow, but his rune glowed and kept him on his feet barely.
Spurred from the power of his runes, Biff charged again and delivered a flury of fierce attacks on Igor, who stumbled
back and fell to the ground.
Biff wins
Round 2
To follow later.
Hopefully I'll have time to finish the fight tomorrow, if not then definitely thursday. I'm on work experience now.
strewart - July 11, 2007 01:07 PM (GMT)
Ok here we go lads.
Round 2
Biff began the fight first by charging at Igor and swinging his great weapon at the towering blood dragon, who was unable to block the blow and suffered a wound. Igor struck back with a ferocious flurry of attacks and sunk two blows into the Dwarf lord, bringing him to a single wound.
Again, Biff charged, and again his blade struck home and wounded Igor, whose wounds were now beginning to mount up. Igor struck back with a powerful blow, but the runic armour glowed and Biff disengaged unharmed.
This time Igor charged, and drove his great weapon into Biff's flesh with a powerful blow, sending Biff to the floor immediately.
Igor wins
Round 3
Again, the two closely matched opponents faced each other in the arena, this time the deciding fight. Both knew they had to win this round to hold the pirze of third place. As they circled each other wearily, Igor took the initiative and leapt forward bringing his huge blade to bear upon the Dwarf. He lashed out with a powerful attack, capable of splitting a man head to toe! (Killing blow) So powerful was the attack that sparks flew across the arena and the crowd was silenced. Biff was blown backward onto the floor in a cloud of dust, but his runes glowed brightly and he was able to regain his footing. In retaliation, he pounced at Igor and struck two wounding blows on the vicous vampire before leaping back and regaining his pose, ready to strike again.
Again Igor charged, and again he unleashed only a single blow but a very powerful one (KB again), seemingly keen to end the fight in one strike rather than dragging it out. But again, in a cloud of smoke and rubble, Biff's ancient runes came to life and he was spared what would be a gruesome death. Biff again readied his blade and came at the vampire striking quickly, the magical undead armour was all that kept the Vampire on his feet as he stumbled backward.
Biff struck first this time, seeing that the vampires wounds were mounting, he brought a blade up under the chin of Igor from below and drove it into his undead flesh with a roar, then stepped back as the vampire fell to the ground in a gush of blood.
Biff wins!
Two 4+ ward saves were all that saved Biff from an instant death, and he got a 4 both times. Very lucky, close fight. Third place goes to ZeltArruin's character, Biff the Dwarf Lord!
And now, the fight we've all been waiting for. I was going to only do the first round tonight, but I got carried away and did it all. :) Oh well.
Grand Final
Mordrath (Chaos Lord Captain Rico) vs Gurgle (Goblin Warboss Strewart)
Round 1
Mordrath, Lord of chaos and chosen of Slaanesh stepped out onto the arena and surveyed the floor. With much suprise he saw a smirking goblin, and a swarm of gobbos in the crowd all cackling manically and cheering for Gurgle to 'show 'im yer sneaksy triks!'. He checked his armour again, and moved toward the centre of the arena.
Gurgle, inspired by his followers, dashed in first and charged the chaos lord. He held only a small dagger but it glowed with orcy power and struck hard. Cutting through Mordrath's armour like a knife through butter, the power of the gods seemed to have left Mordrath on his own as he felt the sting of the blade on his flesh twice. In fierce retaliation with 7 attacks, Mordrath struck the lightly armoured goblin blow after blow, but its talisman glowed and it was as if the goblins armour was as powerful as his own! Two strikes still found their mark, severely injuring the goblin and sending blood flowing through his blade, bringing him back to full strength.
Undeterred, Gurgle charged again, and again hit Mordrath with his dirk, which seemd to sink right through all of Mordraths armour and wound him again, causing him to howl in pain and fuel his attack. He lashed back quickly, but Gurgle raised his magical shield and as Mordrath struck it he felt pain course through his body from the little glowing shield, much to the pleasure of the goblins in the crowd. His second attack found its mark on the goblins flesh though, and wiped the smirk of Gurgle's face as he dropped to the arena floor.
Mordrath wins
Round 2
Wasting no time, Gurgle ran across the arena with a loud screech and attacked Mordrath, hitting him twice and finding soft flesh twice. Mordrath howled in pain and fury, then unleashed a series of blows upon the small goblin knocking its shield away and hitting its flesh hard. Gurgle stumbled backward under the flurry of blows, but was unable to evade them or desengage to regroup, the final blow knocked his head from his body and left the goblin cheer squad silenced. Mordrath raised his blade in victory, but then the little shield of the goblin light up from the floor which caused Mordrath to wince in pain and sent the goblins back into a fit of laughter, despite their hero being dead.
Mordrath wins!
The champion of this arena of death is Captain Rico's chaos lord, Mordrath!
That last round was much more one sided than it could have been. Mordrath hit with only 3 of his attacks, but managed to wound with all then against the odds Gurgle failed all 3 5+ armour saves and all 3 4+ ward saves. Had he passed even one of them, I think he had a good chance of winning. I doubt I would take that gobbo to a battle, but for an AoD he is almost too good, though the results show otherwise. He makes you lose your ward save with his trinket, he gets to use your character's expensive armour and ward saves with his cheap amulet, if you roll a 1 to hit you take a s5 hit as a bonus, and last but certainly not least, his weapon gives +1 s for every magic item carried by the opponent! In that last fight, he was at s7, so without the ward all Gurgle needed to do was hit, then roll a 2+ to wound and Mordrath lost a wound. Oh well.
Thanks for entering guys, hope you enjoyed it!
Captain Rico - July 15, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
Lol, very good AoD report Steve, however this is rathjer a hollow victory. Although beating the snot out a weedy goblin sounds good in my head, on the PC screen it wasnt nearly as satisfying.
Next AoD, i might try more of an underdog character.
ZeltArruin - July 15, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
Ive a few ideas floating around for another AoD, particularity if mounts are allowed.
