In my area there has been a lot of talk about this:
http://www.riverviewatreading.com/
The plans include the following:
New apartments
Retail Stores
Minor League Stadium for the Reading Phillies
Soccar Fields
Aquarium
Water park (indoor and outdoor)
White Water Park
Businesses
Skate Park
Possible Trolley System
and much more.

There are a few problems; the Reading Phillies like their current stadium, the project costs $2.8 Billion, and it is built along a flood plain.

In my opinion I like the project, but the only problem is that it will be built in an area prone to flooding. They are saying about adding a 6 to 11 foot flood wall, but still, it has flooded higher than that. Also, downtown Reading is a real unsafe city and covering it up by just building something big and fancy isn't going to solve the problem.
Here are the plans and an artist's rendering:

This looks like a project I might be able to document if it happens!

More news about it as it happens.

Wow, I would've never have thought to see something like this develop in the Reading area. I wonder how much of an impact something like this would have on the Hershey area. Isn't Reading about as far from HP as York? Too bad we don't see something like that happen in the York area. We got the York Revolution baseball team a few years ago, but that's about it.

That looks great! Close to where I am, there are two proposed projects very similar to that, one being confirmed and the other pending. There is also a proposal to spruce up Coney Island, which you may have heard. It might become a decently large resort and amusement park, too.

The one project involves a new stadium and development, and the other might involve an indoor waterpark, artificial ski mountain, hotels, condos, rafting, etc.. (This one is still a proposed plan)

The only thing this one in Reading needs is an amusement park. wink.gif

An amusement park, now that's definitely a must! I'd be traveling up there more often to check that out lol. wink.gif

^ Haha. I would've guessed you would choose that! That would be really cool to have an amusement park there. Reading isn't all that far from Allentown, which I travel out to periodically. Maybe I can check this out on my next visit out! (When it's being built.)

Reading used to have a park at one time, but it closed in 1950. I think the closest park now is a toss-up between Dutch Wonderland and Dorney Park and that is 30 miles away.
A park would be good, but where to put it?

My question is who will own the waterpark? Would it be a Great Wolf Lodge, or some other company?

Well, Great Wolf Lodge bases it's name around it's indoor waterpark and log cabin style, and it does have a little bit of an outdoors to it. It's really just a pool with a picnic area and kid slides, unless this GWL will be a larger and different than the rest.
I didn't see in the list of things a resort complex, so I don't think it would be Great Wolf Lodge - unless the much more means this.

I was wondering Great Wolf Lodge too. How far is Hamburg from Reading? I ask since Cabella's outdoor store is located there. GWL would fit in perfectly with something like that.
