My take on the name change is sort of "yes" and "no".
The yes would be nice for a different name. One name I had in mind that I was thinking of changing in the near future (regardless if you came back or not) would be HPGuide - Your online Guide to everything Hersheypark.
The no would be that the site name has a special place in my heart, having been the creator of the site several years ago. The name has gone around the internet and people refer to it for some reasons, the "Save the Giant Wheel" efforts to be exact.
I do think alot of the changes you have in mind are pretty good and I do like them. I'm just not too sure about the name change though.

That's why it's up to the members to decide.
The HPGuide name wouldn't work because it wouldn't be just a guide for Hersheypark. It would be a guide for the park, the local area, and Knoebels.
The Hersheypark Crazy name wouldn't go with the forum changes I said above. Let's also just say that the Save the Giant Wheel thing didn't really capture any praise from the park. First of all because of the litter the flyers it caused and the boost in security. Let's also say that when I brought the site up to one of the guys there, they knew specifically about it (in a humorous way). Changing the name would start over, let people know that this is new and improved.
The Giant Wheel thing wasn't something to be proud of.

True, but I think certain people (not you or anyone at this site) took that too far. It wasn't my idea to loiter the park with flyers and such. I remember someone posted at the Tide Blue forums that they were going to do it without me being involved. In fact, I didn't have such an idea in mind or was involved at all. It may be a good idea about a new name that wouldn't associate with such an action after all.
The HPGuide name I came up with, but that was before you came up with these ideas to improve the site. I just brought it up for a name suggestion since I had it in my mind. I guess any path we would eventually take the name down (as long as we incorporate "Hershey" or "Hersheypark" into it) wouldn't be a problem, so all the HP fanatics here will continue to come, besides new members.

| QUOTE (HPfanatic @ Jul 23 2009, 07:39 PM) | Ill wait on voting because I am torn, mainly for the reasons you were both tossing back and forth. A new name would be nice, especially since the site will not only have HP, but also Knoebels and other things. A generic name wouldn't do like "Pennsylvania Parks" or something, because there are more places in PA than what we have on the site.
The forum skin change would be great, and maybe a few forum features would change with it.
So the reason why am giving the decision some more time is because I like half of the plan and not the whole thing. |
We could cover Kennywood, Idlewild, and the other parks out west. I'd have no problem with that. Just as long as it takes the focus off of just one park.
Keystone Thrills might work.

I like the idea of having discussion about other parks but I've been thinking about this and I think changing this to a multi-park forum wouldn't be the best. I think if we want to have these other parks, make one section and put them all there. You know, label it "Other Pennsylvania amusement parks" and from there, we could cover Kennywood, Waldamer, Idlewild, Lakemont, Knoebels and Dorney. Have an individual section for each and then the guests have the option(s) of creating topics on one of those parks in that particular park section.
For example, we have the following:
-News & Updates -New Site Details -Hersheypark Online Collection Museum -Hersheypark Discussion -Central PA attractions (Lancaster, Reading, York, Gettysburg, etc) -Pennsylvania's other amusement/theme parks (in this area would be where Knoebels, Kennywood, etc would be listed for discussion(s)).
I'm sorry, but I would like to see the name "Hersheypark" stay, even if we change to a new name. Why? There isn't mainly a good forum to focus on the park, this has become such a success (usually alot of your typical Hershey forums that you would see on the net die off eventually), and we can still make it successful that particular way, if we divide everything just right when adding the other topics and discussions.

I don't know, I think we should have "Hersheypark" in the main title. Either keep the current one and call it: "Hersheypark Crazy - Your Online Guide to Everything Hersheypark, Central PA and Pennsylvania's Amusement Parks" or change HPCrazy to HPGuide, HPTalk, etc. The "Your Online Guide...." would take the place of "Hersheypark, Roller Coasters, Chocolate" if you know what I mean.
I think having discussions on the other PA Amusement Parks and Central PA's attractions is great, we just don't want them to overtake what this site is originally intended and always will be, Hersheypark.
