From an article called "It's About Power" - from "Darkworlds.com":

QUOTE
According to their established mythology, family members become prime snack food for new vampires. Instead, he sires her so that she can be healed (ah, that pesky consumption) and live forever with him and Drusilla. The new vampire version of Spike’s mother was evil to the core, just as she should be. Why wasn’t he? Spike vestiges of humanity are puzzling, although they do explain why he acts so un-vampire-like so often. I’ve got a theory that the demon that took over Spike’s body when he was sired wasn’t a very powerful one, allowing his own personality and humanity to rise to the surface, but I’m just guessing here.

Whoever wrote this article doesn't strike me as being very broad-minded. Why should Spike adhere to the standard mythology regarding vampires? Wasn't this standard mythology - conveyed to Buffy by Giles - eventually undermined by the show's characterization of various vampires? Do ALL vampires have to act the same? According to the author of this article . . . apparently so.

I can't speak for Xander/Veggiebelle, who wrote both this article and the one noted in this thread, but please, it's one thing to state that the views presented do not seem broad-minded and another to label the author. Please keep the commentary to the writing and not the writer.

But isn't the writing a reflection of what the writer was thinking?
