On a bright, sunny day in late July, Harry Potter was killed by Lord Voldemort.

The Dursleys had left him in the house by himself, though he'd had to promise about twenty times that he wouldn't set the house on fire. It was one of Aunt Petunia's friend's parties - and one of those attending's second cousin was a Death Eater.

Distant relationship, you might think. But they still got to know about it, and they were not stupid. The information was given to Lord Voldemort. He began to plan something... something involving Harry's death. He summoned Severus Snape, who after all knew the boy better, to think of something, Snape being in his good books for the moment because despite everything, he'd managed to kill Dumbledore. Snape immediately thought of Ginny.

There was a spell on Number Four, Privet Drive, to keep Harry safe as long as he was inside the house or garden. So the target was to tempt Harry out.

A Portkey was placed by one of the Death Eaters, just outside the garden. It was disguised as a letter, with 'Harry Potter' on it. In Ginny's handwriting.

Harry fell for the trap. He stepped outside of the safety, and picked up the letter. Immediately, he was whisked away to Voldemort's current headquarters – a small graveyard. Here Alice and Frank Longbottom had been buried. All of the Death Eaters were there – including a certain Draco Malfoy. Harry put up a fight – all through everything, he refused to give up, but carried on hopelessly firing spells at Voldemort and the other Death Eaters, especially Snape, who he felt an absolute loathing for. However he was eventually won over, and murdered by Lord Voldemort.

Malfoy had been desperate to escape from Lord Voldemort, who, furious that Draco did not manage to kill Dumbledore, was determined to either kill or severely hurt him. However, Draco knew that he would not be received well by the other side; after Harry's death, he had information. He ran to The Burrow and told them of the news. At first they didn't believe him, but when Mr Weasely Apparated to the cemetery in question and found no Death Eaters, but instead Harry's body, they were forced to accept that he was telling the truth.

It didn't take long for the news to spread. Soon, everyone knew that Harry Potter, the Chosen One, was dead. A large crowd gathered at The Burrow, some to console the three children closest to Harry, some to weep with others, and some because they didn't really believe it was true, and wanted proof.

It was agreed that the children should return to Hogwarts. Minerva McGonagall, the new Headmistress, would look after them. Perhaps, with Harry gone, Lord Voldemort would be satisfied. But no. The newspapers were still filled up with murders; those faint-hearted or sensitive rarely opened the Daily Prophet, for fear of finding out some gruesome death, and even more feared that some day, they would open it to find reports of one of their loved ones, dead.

Draco Malfoy is now being kept safe in the basements of Hogwarts, hidden. Only a precious few of the teachers know where he is – no students (yes, this does include Ron, Ginny, Hermione, etc).

Severus Snape, as the creator of the plan, remains loyal to Lord Voldemort. He was however punished severely for letting Draco escape, as he was supposedly Snape's responsibility.

However Voldemort made a mistake, the same mistake he has made countless times before; he forgot about love, about friendship.

Those who were true friends to Harry will avenge his death, it is said.

Will they manage to destroy one of the greatest wizards ever known?

Or will they just end up dead themselves?

[[Horribly long plot, I know]]

Anyway.
I'm playing Ginny.

The problem was that everyone expected her to be 1) miserable all the time, and 2) eager to avenge his death.

She was miserable, of course. But she'd known it was going to happen, in an abstract sort of way. That summer, she'd talked to him once, well, received one letter from him. He sounded cocky and confident... a mistake.

OK, so it actually happening was pretty awful, but imagining it... in a weird way, that had been worse. Expecting it. When Draco Malfoy had burst in, had said, "Harry Potter's /dead/," she'd believed him instantly, though she was the only one who had. It had taken her father Apparating to the place where Harry's body lay before they'd been convinced.

Draco Malfoy. She felt sorry for him, in a strange way. He'd made a mistake in joining Voldemort, that was for sure.

And now, he was stuck, because Voldemort hated him for deserting - though Ginny had no idea where Draco was now... had he gone back? Surely not - and the "good" side hated him for being a Death Eater.

He was in a pretty screwed up situation, for sure. But Ginny had no time to ponder over this.

It was so annoying. Just because of Luna; it had been Luna, after all, who had said, "We have to fight back". To everyone's surprise. Anyway, because of Luna, they were all doomed to fighting an enemy that even Dumbledore, even Harry, couldn't defeat.

What was the point...?

Ginny sighed. It was morning now - but soon she'd have to go downstairs. Lessons were pretty much a thing of the past, merely a formality. Most of them were spent with the teachers simply telling them ways of combating the Dark Lord - Ginny didn't see the point. They were going to lose. How the hell were they supposed to find all the stupid Horcruxes anyway?

She yawned, got up, got dressed. Walked down to the hall, for breakfast.

Merely a formality.

She moved like a zombie.
