Hey there, I'm considering downloading one of the PSX Goemon ROMS/ISOs to play. And I was wondering which one should I get? I've actually played Kurunarakoi before but I would like to know what Oedo Daikaten and Uchukaizoku Akogingu are like?

Thanks in advance. gg2_goemon_victory.gif

Haven't yet played Akogingu. gg2_ebisumaru_sitting2.gif

But Oedo Daikaiten is a side scroller with decent looking "3D" graphics. It's a fun game and some of the cut scenes are pretty goofy to watch even when you don't know what the characters are talking about. I would definitely recommend it!

Agree with Seppukumaru. Oedo Daikaiten is highly recommended. Akogingu is also great but you'll need help from some walkthough if you can't read japanese, I couldn't figure out what to do sometimes.

That New Age Goemon is actually good, but not great. Too bad I can't relate that with Goemon, though I've bought it for my collection. I don't know if everyone's aware of it, but the "real" Goemon appears on some cutscene. Well just his silhouette, but it's definately him.

As for "Kurunarakoi"...well, this one is really terrible. I've beat it in a bit more than one hour. There aren't many places to go and there's one specifig boring place which you have to go all the way just to get back a lot of times as the game progresses. And the enemies takes forever to be defeated. Yes, small regular enemies. I'm sure they've made it like this to extend the gameplay time. But it doesn't help too much, it's really short. Now, to think it has been released the same day as Goemon's Great Adventure in Japan. Come on, two at the same time: one is great and the other is terrible. Really strange.

That's probably because they were developed by two different teams. Great Adventure was done by the Osakan team, Kurunarakoi by the Tokyo one. No idea why a game about a man from Tokyo was better done by a group from Osaka.

You're right, Ukyo. There's also Goemon games by Nagoya and Kobe teams. I think the Osaka team is (or was) the best.

I've finally finished "Akogingu" and I can confirm it's a wonderful game. I wish I could enjoy it more by reading the text because I didn't get much of the storyline.

It took me one year to do it. I gave up before because I couldn't get through a stage where you need to climb several platforms using Ebisumaru's gloves. It seemed impossible, I tried for hours (seriously) 'till it hurt my fingers. Then, last week, I decided to try again and ended up figuring out the best way to do it. From this part, I got to the end in no time. Total play time was 5:52 hours for the entire game (I didn't save after trying that difficult part so that didn't count). Considering this was my first playthrough, I think the game is actually pretty short. But it is filled with fun boss battles.

It's a great game overall and I think it's even better than Oedo Daikaiten, which I didn't finish yet.

Definitinely Uchukaizoku Akogingu! When I wrote the FAQ for it, I spent way more time just playing and messing around more than anything else! This topic also reminded me how bad "Kurunarakoi" was...that game is seriously one of the worst games I have ever played! It's like Goemon waterboarding.

Haha, I remember when I first got Kurunarakoi, and even went so far as messaging you to try to reason that the game wasn't as bad as you claimed it to be. My view has changed dramatically since then, though I still appreciate the game for its nostalgia factor.

Akogingu is definitely the best one I think, it's very influenced by Goemon 3, I sometimes wonder if it was possibly even originally an SNES title in early development and then got quickly ported over to PSX. You don't really need to understand it to enjoy it, though when I first bought it back in 98 I was stuck for well over a year because I couldn't figure out how to get past the big rock in the lake section, and had to eventually write down all the text the guy behind it says and take it to a Japanese guy at an import shop to get help on what to do gg2_sasuke_raging.gif Too bad I didn't know then of Gamefaqs, since a guide had already been out. Didn't stop me from always saying it was the best game ever back then though tongue.gif

I guess I'm the opposite of everyone here. I somewhat liked Kurunarakoi. But i hated Uchu Kaizuko Akogingu. You mean to tell me a 2 hour experience is a full game? Sorry but i found that to be retarded. Plus those 2 "new" characters were very boring and no fun to play as. Kurunarakoi had some weird charm to it i happen to like. and Oedo Daikaiten is my favorite PSX goemon game. gg2_ebisumaru_sitting2.gif
