I'm thinking of performing Popular for a pageant talent competition coming up and I'm looking for a dress to wear. I don't want to attempt to make one at this point so I'm looking for dresses that are similar that I could use instead. I did find some dresses with ruffled skirts on eBay, but none were in my price range. What do you guys think of this one? It's only $25.

I agree. It's theperfectcolor, has all thesparklesand isa goodalternative. Also, ifyoucan raida school's costume closet or look for some sort of1950s styledress that would work too. I found a giant pink tutu looking dress that I usedwhenIperformedpopular.

also sorry my spacekey is broken

check out tutus. Some of the styles of dresses that come up work really well or you can modify slightly yourself

I just found these two on eBay. The first one is a Med which might be a little small on me but there's no bids and it's starting at $5. The second is an XL which of course can be taken in but it's a BIN for $49 or they have an option to make an offer. What do you guys think? Or should I just get both and see which works better?

I would go with the second one. Remember, if you were making this dress from scratch, you would spend way more than that. I would try to buy the second one because it has amazing shape, then if you have time, add ribbon to it because that's all that seems to be missing. If not, the first one will work fine.

I put in an offer on the second dress and the seller accepted!!!! That's exactly what I was thinking of doing, just adding some ribbon. I might add some fabric to the skirt to make it look even more like the original. We'll see. And I'm still thinking of bidding on the first dress as a backup. In case something goes wrong or I run out of time on the second.

Ok, so I got both dresses. The first one fits ok, it's just a little snug from the waist down. The second one fits good as well, but the color is a lot darker than in the photo. I took the dress into the fabric store today to see if I could just o an overlay of lighter pink, but that didn't look so good. Anyone have any suggestions? It's 100% polyester and it's really stretchy. I was doing some googling, trying to find a solution, and found something called "RIT Colour Remover" that is supposed to strip the dye out of the fabric. After some more research though I found out that this can only be done on natural fabrics and won't work on polyester. sad.gif

Honestly I wouldn't risk doing anything to the dress unlessyou're really sure. Mayber add a couple additional ruffles but if it'sslightly offcolor or not the exact dress people aren't going to know the difference unless they are diehard wickedfans. Plus everyone will still get the idea if you are in bright pink and the other person is in black

It's not a bright pink though. It's like a wine or a burgundy. And I do need to add another layer to the skirt, but the fabric store doesn't have anything that came close. Everything was either a fuchsia or light pink.
