Hope someone might have a clue. Put in a small pond last summer and by summer's end, here in NJ, i had three bullfrogs suddenly show up. Quite a surprise since I live in the middle of a development with a totally fenced in yard. Anyway all survived the winter and all seemed perfectly healthy, coming and going in and out of the pond...until yesterday. Came home and saw one clinging to a floating plant. Looked like it was on its death bead. Mouth breathing, as if it could not breathe. It's body seemed dull. Thought it had died but when I went to scoop it out...it was moving. Today it seems to have more energy. I've seen it in different sections of the pond. It looks grotesque though. Do they molt? Could that be what's going on? I'm clueless.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your frog. Frogs do shed their skin but they do not behave as you describe or look grotesque. If the skin is white and/or coming off, it might be a fungal infection. The frog could have some other problem; a vet would need to try to diagnose it. I'm not sure there's really anything that you can do. Frogs will come and go and even get through fencing.

Good luck!

Sad to say, while I was away in NY, frog passed away. Actually I'm relieved. I hated that it may be suffering.
