I'm starting a Journal in this forum so that you guys, the people who actually answer my questions with respect, get to see it. I've cut back on tanks since the G/F helps me with them and always complains "I have toooo many tanks"(I only had 8....)
So here goes: 29gal #1 & #2 I had an old oak-trimmed 29gal that was setup in Sept. of '07 that I received from a friend...It's gone through various fish who usually end up moving to the 55gal (more room)...and this tank got new inhabitants. Well, in July? of 2008, my parents bought me a new 29gal which was black-trimmed and didn't look in rough shape for my birthday and I swapped the 2 tanks...I kept a few various fish and plants in there but finally tore it down in February of this year. I have decided to re-set it back up as soon as I get a few things for it. 55gal: I set this tank up for the goldfish, but when they got sick, I put them out in the pond and they got better...I finally moved the 2 angelfish from my 29gal and my mom's 10gal into here along with some other fish. It is a very basic setup but with lots of potential. I hope it will turn out good. All the work I do with it is with fish still in. 5.5gal: This tank was an '08 Christmas present, It had Lord Betta my 3rd CT..but he died earlier...and the tank got re-setup for the Newt. When I decided to move him into my 5gal HEX (more vertical space for more water) and reset this tank up for my V/CT betta, Raven Fins...There are also 2 panda cories who spawn constantly. Pics/updates will follow. P.S. If anyone else wants to start a journal, that WOULD be awesome. |

So..update time:
5.5gal: Had an Algae Problem...but that is mostly solved...Plants include Sunset Hygro, Guppy Grass, 2(or is it 3?) Aponogetons, 1 Moss Ball, E Aungustifolius, Water Wisteria, Red Ludwiga (floating), Salvina, Duckweed and Red Root Floater, and Finally 3 Crypt. Wentii's (1 Red, 2 Rose). Fish are 1 Male Betta and 2 Panda Cories (who I've abandoned hope of rearing fry from)...The latter will be going into the 55gal the next Water Change. Fertilizer is Jungle Root Tabs at the base of the Crypts and Tetra Florapride...Tank is currently running 3WPG. More on this tank is it has a 100GPH basically Penguin Mini filter, Natural Colored Inert Gravel,an Ornament for the fish, a Log pice of Driftwood soaking into a bucket (to be covered with plants soon), 1 fake Tetra Waterwonders Plant and an "AquaMist" Airstone Powered by a Aquatic Gardens 1000 Airpump... I still have a LOT to do on this tank, but it is coming along!! 29gal: Setup on: 3/14/09, Plants include a New Potted Melon Sword, Java Moss and Christmas Moss on the Driftwood an Anubias Nana and Coffiefolia on Driftwood too....Elodea Floats around... Fish are: 1 M Platy, 1 M Paradise Fish, 2 Mollies (1M(dad of the next fish), 1 FM raised from a fry), 1 M goldwonder Killi, 4 Tiger Barbs (1 FM, 3 M), 3 Cherry Barbs (1M, 2 FM) and 1 FM B/N Pleco Fertilizer is the same as the 5gal, so is the gravel, Decor includes the 2 Pieces of driftwood on which many plants inhabit and River Rocks throughout the gravel....Filter is basically a Penguin 200, and there is currently 1.5WPG on this tank...Oh, there is an Aquamist Airstone Powered by a Tetra Whisper 10 Airpump. As with the 5gal, this tank needs a lot of work...but is coming along. The 55gal: Ugh, I don't even want to talk about it!! Hpefully, I'll get in some Flourite and Laterite in with the Inert Gravel in these tanks...Plus, lots of new plants, and eventually, new fish.... |

Hey, just a tip, your 29 gallon has far too few mollies and platies (especially the one platy). Both are shoaling fish and are best in groups of 4-8, as they suffer less stress and are less scared of other fish that way.

Wow, that's funny that you would say "too few" fish!! I'm used to too many!!
I'm hoping I can get my mom interested into platies and put a school of them into the 55gal...the Mollies...I'm not quite sure..they can be total jerks!! I do like the baby molly (who's prego), but the male molly harasses every other fish into the tank..I lost the Black Momma Molly a while back so that may be the cause...I'm hoping to get some Swordtails to replace them. The "daddy" molly I've had since 2006..so...he'll be past life expectancy soon. |

You know when I was doing research for planted aquariums these CO2 pump things kept coming up to the point where I almost wanted to give up. You have a lot of plants but you don't mention the CO2 pumps. Do you have them or is there still hope at having a planted tank without them?

There is hope!! I don't have a Co2 System in there right now and everything is growing just fine.
You just have to find good plants that will thrive in your setup with your lighting and fish... ![]() This is my Low Tech 5.5gal...It's plants grow very slowly..but do grow and do well!! I have a Moss Ball, Anubias Nana, E. Aungustifolius, and Crypt Wentii's growing slowly and Water Wisteria, Sunset Hygro, Java Moss, and Najas Grass growing up a storm. kENNY |

This tank is hot! I always thought it was a requirement. I wanna do it up now!!! Well, not right now, maybe after college when I can actually be there for the fish lol. Thank you though. I'm gonna scavenge for these plants in 3 years when I can set it up lol.

Thanks!! Maybe by then I'll have some cuttings to ship you...Those plants are growing like sloths ATM...Well, the Najas and Hygros are growing Crazy..but the E. Aungustifolius in my 5.5 compared to the growth of the E. Aungustifolius in my 2.5gal, it's slow....Najas thrives more in the 2.5 too...Maybe I need to increase the Bio-Load of my 5.5? LOL

Since, i'm going out of town today, I'm hopefully going to be picking up a Red Rubin Sword and a 3 Spot Gourami. Both for my 29gal.
All the plants in my 5.5 have gone NUTS! I'll be diving them in 2 months and moving the divsions into my 29gal and 55gal. The big, floating mass (I call it "The Blob" LOL) of Java Moss and Hair Algae in my 5hex have also gone nuts. So, some will be moving into my 9gal Pond. LOL. This stuff grows like wild fire. |

So, as usual, there are more tanks.
My 2.5gal: I've always wanted a sucessful FM Betta tank; but knowing that it's not very likely, I setup a black, divided MiniBow. It houses 2 FM bettas (Chick and Venus AKA Lilly) Rimless 10gal: For fun! I've been considering a High Tech taank for quite some time and have a lot of available space; so It'll be setup within the year. 125gal: Future project for my mom's South American Tank. Gonna have a hoard of Angels, a pair of GBR's, Tetras, and, Catfish. |

Depends. I have big tetras so if they do, they'd have to be huge! My xrays grow 4" long, Skirts, Phantoms, Blues, Diamonds, Black Neons, and possibly others stay around 3-4".
Only ones I might have problems with are Cardinals, Neons, and Glowlights. Good call though. Thanks for your concern! |
