We were at Petco tonight and were looking at the saltwater fish tanks. They had one dog face puffer fish for 50 bucks. The fish actually looked like a dog. I never saw anything like that before. He/she was kinda neat looking but kinda of creepy at the same time. It looked like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BlackSp...ishSept2006.jpg
I really liked the yellow tangs that they had. Their faces remind me of a Seahorse.
They also had a lion fish. Now that is one scary looking fish. He said that they take the fish that die in the other tanks and feed them to the lion fish along with some of others. He put a dead fish in there and the lion fish went after it but didn't eat it thank goodness. He said that they are poisonous. It was interesting looking at the different fish. I never really paid much attention to them before Robyn started this section!

I too look at saltwater fish when I go to petco. I usually "OHHH" and "AHH"...but this time I was looking at fish I wanted: Six-line wrasse, firefish, hermit+emarld crabs, clownfish, cleaner shrimp, etc. and am SO ready to start my SW tank though it's going to be a while...Im gettting closer to being done with my 29G FW planted but not dont yet.

I never really looked at the saltwater animals before either because I KNEW I'd never have any! Now that I know I can have certain ones in my tank, I'm longing for all those animals that I can't have in my little tank (because they're too big, too mean, etc.). I love the yellow tangs too! They need at least 80 gallons or something! If you guys are all a-wonder from Petco's fish, you ought to go to a REAL fish or coral store. It's incredible! I went to Mr. Coral a few weeks ago to get my animals. The corals were all gorgeous. Some sell for over $1000! My four corals were $20 each though. Have you guys seen some real reef tanks? My local store has one about 300 gallons. You could watch is all day for a month and still find animals you hadn't seen yet!

We don't have any real fish stores around here but I'll have to get out the phonebook and find one. smile.gif There is NO WAY that I would have a saltwater tank. I would love to have one but I think they are way too complicated for your average person with limited smarts like me. smile.gif Besides I am killing off enough fish right now with my new tank.
I did read up just a little bit on the Yellow Tangs and it did say 80 gallons or bigger and best either by itself or with 3?? I would really, really like a tank with seahorses!
What really blew me away though was that dog faced puffer at Petco. I still can't get the image out of my head! He/she looked like a cool, mellow dude! He/she would curl up in the coral that they had in the tank, just like a dog curls it's tail to lay down. Ok, somebody stop me cause I would go on and on..... smile.gif

Hi folks if you like the fish you see in your pet store you should try a spot of diving to see them in there natural habitat is something else, It's better in the warmer climates that I'm blessed with on my holidays (not this year due to the new rug rat) other than that i have to put up with the north of England and jeez that can be cold but still full of life

Dont feel too bad about your fish...We all go thoughb fases where we are REALLY good with fish then other fases where we lose all of new fish or whatever...I dont know if you red this...but i lost sauron my beatiful koi...I feel stupid....but I knwo that Im doing my best for the feeders so atleast theyll do ok....Seahorse tanks are cool but If you dont like losing fish, they would NOT be a good first SW fish.....I'd be cool if you could get that puffer you like so much...Im currently in love with dwarf puffers, fig 8 puffs, and GSP puffs! If you want a Seahorse tank I can tell you more because I know some about them...and Im thinking about making a refug. for my 29G SW so there might be a few in there!

One of the Saltwater Aquarium stores here in the Dallas/Fort worth area has a 1000 gallon tank with just about everything you can think of and some GIGANTIC Giant clams and they sell some of the most amazing coral and sea anemones from $10 to $1000+ dollars.
