Title: Goldfish Fry With Legs!
Description: Fry developement

Jacqui - August 10, 2012 12:55 PM (GMT)
Hi there, I obviously am new here :) My pond goldfish have spawned twice this year. The first time was April the last time it was beginning of July. Both times I rescued some eggs by putting the water hyacinth in a tank. All was well until about a month or so when legs started to grow. I thought maybe anchor worm so treated the tank. This did no good so I actually got tweezers and pulled a "leg" out of one of the fry from the first batch. The next day the :leg" had literally grown back! I got rid of the first batch just thinking they were deformed with 2 back legs.
Now I have a current batch of fry that grew the back legs and low and behold they have grown 2 front legs as well. The legs look like they have the little cups frogs do, but I promise you they are not tadpoles. I have been all over the web trying to find out what I have on my hands or if it some kind of mutant creature. I have 3 goldfish, i Koi and 2 frogs in 500 gal pond and I know who the parents are due to all the chasing around the pond :)
Please someone tell me I am not crazy!

Welcome to the forum!

Fish don't have legs. You have tadpoles. You can post photos for more information. Were there jelly-like masses of eggs in the water hyacinth that you removed? Goldfish eggs would be scattered all over and super tiny.

PLEASE post a picture! I agree that goldfish do not have legs. It must be frogs.

Dave, my green frogs lay eggs in to September. Most tree frogs finish by late spring but the gray tree frogs here may still lay after a rain in the summer. So, Dave, are you suggesting these are alien fry and not tadpoles?

Oh that's so sad you pulled their little legs off. :( Cryerbaby Let them be :)

Alien Goldfish m'mmm that would be different, anyway the person posting this thread made an honest mistake which they have learned from and wont make again.
Weve had a bit of fun welcomed them to the forum and say to them please come and learn from us as we all can help you with your pond and on identification .
Rosiemeadow our frogs are a boring bunch breeding only once a year

I found fresh green frog eggs in my pond today so they're still at it here!
