And the fish im putting in are fish from my current coldwater tank, is this safe for the fish? I will then be converting my tank into a tropical tank , thanks in advance robyn :D

Welcome back "Fishdocter." I can find your password if you would rather re-activate that account. You only needed to post once in the new members section, not five times.
With a new pond, if you can let it run for a few weeks without fish, that's great as it lets some algae, insect larvae, and bacteria to grow so there's a more natural situation for the fish. I used that time to quarantine my new fish when my pond was new. What fish do you have in your tank that you want to put in your pond? How big is your new pond? If you can't wait two weeks for your new pond to sit, then I suggest at least a day of letting the equipment run and to aerate the pond.
Good luck!

Hi :) , no its fine robyn ill remember this one now :) , oh and sorry about posting five times i was on my ipod hehe and i didnt know whether it would work, apologies , The fish im going to move are just one average goldfish and two black comets (<plainly beautiful!) , im not quite sure of the size of the pond its only small its between 250/300 litres (not big at all) but im going to be sure not too over crowd it with fish :) , im going to leave the pond to settle for atleast a week i think , should i add plants? I have a filter in it already running , the thing i was worried about is the fish are coming from a clean tank will this affect them at all? , thanks robyn sorry for the life story :D

Hi fishdok...congratulations on your new pond. I like floaters to filter the fine debris out of the pond. Either water lettuce or water hyacinth. One year I did have frogs bit that really spread and did a good job of both filtering and providing shade. How deep is your pond and where do you live?

I wanted to get some water lilly's and also a plant that the fish can hide in incase of a cat scare ,Im not quite sure how deep it is its very small about an arm length down , and i live in the uk

Plants are a good idea. The fish shouldn't have a problem with the move if the pond is larger than their tank. They may have to get used to temperature changes but otherwise should enjoy the new adventure.
Send me a private PM or e-mail with the e-mail that you want on your account. I can change the e-mail for the account. I'm not sure if I have to delete the other account. If I do, your old posts will be indescript as far as who made them.
If you want to try water lilies, you should try one dwarf one since your pond is small. If it doesn't do well due to lack of space, you can try snowflakes which have a similar leaf shape with little flowers.

Hi fishdok
With our recent winter here in the UK may we suggest something deeper than four feet next time you build a pond, this is neccessary to enable your fish to survive even the harshests winters (and you must admit ours are getting much colder of late). :o
We are based down in the West Country P{lymouth to be exact but here on FPI there are a growng number of us Brits  so one of us may live near your beck of the woods.
We are just finishing our first and last pond in the shape of a 1,000 gallon imperial koi pond which as koi ponds go is small but it suites us. :D
Any problems please email us and we may be able to arrange one of the FPI British members to visit your pond to help you out. B)
