Title: More Updates...on Kenny's Tanks
kENNY - September 27, 2009 03:46 AM (GMT)
IDK if you guys are interested...but I've made some MAJOR changes to my tanks...
I tore down the 29 thinking it was leaking which it wasn't but all but a few fish moved to my 55 and the others are in my 10...So I decided to make my 29gal a fancy goldfish tank...I bought 2 Fancies and they are swimming around in the recently setup 29...After that, I moved my 10 next to the 29 and put more gravel in. That tank is really thriving and looking natural with crypts popping up everywhere! I also put all my brown gravel in the 55gal to replace the marbles. Along with all of that, all 4 Betta Tanks are setup and doing well, but no real updates on them.
Anyways here are the pics:

55

29

10

Oger the Red/White Ryukin

Storm the Calico Fantail...who's not feeling too great right now...
Hope you enjoy!
PS. I'm sorry I haven't updated sooner but I've been pretty sick and don't have much patience ATM...[for EX. I just cussed out a stupid pop-up when I was trying to copy the [img] links...I couldn't get rid of it! grrrrrr...]
PPS. For random-ness, here's my baby, Indi:

Very nice Kenny! I love your little baby kitty :)
Robyn - September 27, 2009 09:39 PM (GMT)
It's hard to type write now because I have a purring Tinkerbelle in my arms. We think your kitten is darling. The baby fantails are also very cute. It's interesting how you have your aquarium plants in pots, kind of like a miniature pond situation. Is that the java moss I gave you in the little tank?
kENNY - September 27, 2009 11:45 PM (GMT)
LOL Robyn...You've always got some animal to deal with huh?! Same here! My black cat, Shadow usually stays with me; purrring and bugging me to pay attention to her and not the loud, black, shiney, notebook. lol
Yes, that is the Java Moss you sent me in the 55, 29, and on the driftwood in the 10...the other[under the thermometer] is an assortment of mosses from a friend on TPT Forum.

Good pictures- of fish and kitty. And yes I think most everybody is interested. Thats why we're on this site :)

Hi Kenny
Ahh a nice little kitten, all of us cat owners remember those days and hold them dear. :)
Dusty comes to mind as a kitten with two funny icidents one were she pee'd in Vals slipper the other when she was about 4 months old when our good friend Steve put his brand new leather jacket on the floor :o !!!...
Yep you guessed it she pee'd on that too (we were absolutely mortified as was Steve), Laughy Laughy Laughy Laughy Laughy.
But we see the funny side of it now Laughy Laughy Laughy and throughout the rest of her 18 years of life she would pee if given the chance too on anything that was leather (we think she had a bit of a fetish dont you). :)

Good! Then you won't mind more updates!
Soon, as in REALLY soon, I'm getting all my cats spayed[we are taking 1 tommorrow up to Wachula...BTW]...and,
I have some new plants coming for my 10gal! Green Hygro, Red Temple Plant, Crypt Balansae, Java Fern, & Blayxa Japonica! Splee!
However, all this good news comes with some bad....Storm, the Metallic looking Fantail Goldfish, probably is at her last days, she has trouble swimming and is now starting to lay on her side. She's not very old but it does make me happy I was able to give her a little while of Peace and Happiness....
If she does die, I have 1 Fancy Goldfish in that tank, a Red/White Ryukin:

I'm unsure if I want anymore goldfish or if this one will get the entire 29 to itself...He's happy and healthy, so I might just keep 2 goldfish...
B&V...
I LOVE my kittens as they are soooo sweet! They are next to be spayed and taken care of...Funny story about your cat!

Thanks!
The bettas LOVE the grrls and they keep the disputes for space between them down as everyone knows, the goldfish rule the tank! LOL
I'm really planning/hoping for a 90gal Corner Bowfront to move the goldfish in though...

I finally got a good pic of the tank, just in time for me to change it up a bit!!
There is now a fake stump with flame moss on it where the skull was. Also, there are now 13+ clown plecos from the 2 adults constantly spawning!

In other news, I finally went insane and bought a bamboo shrimp for my 10G. Little sucker cleaned me out of whatever money I had! S/he's cute tho! :)
EDIT: Sorry for the pic angle...the house is in a complete mess and I'm getting ready to move the tanks to another room...

Hi Kenny
Love the setup young dude :)
But how do you clean your gravel as it seems to have been taken over by lot's of baby plants

Thanks. I can't clean it unless I rip stuff up which is exactly what I did last night. I just need to finish tweaking things, then I'll post a new pic. :)

Everything I got "rid of*combined from the 10 & 29*" went into my 5.5 with the sunfish & lone gambusia. The "keepers*out of the 29*" went into the "high tech" 10.

The filter? It's a Tetra Whisper 3i that I put on here...I know it's not big enough, but it's good for now until I can get the Penguin 100B since my other 3 are trash[dead].
I acclimated the Moor & Ryukins along with the sunfish[and gambusia] to the big pond. No one in there should mess with them and they should grow faster and enjoy the other goldies[& sunfish]!
The stock of my tanks are:
29gal:
3x Female Bettas
2x Clown Plecos [put the rest in a grow out tank]
10:
1x Male Betta
1x Bamboo Shrimp
Robyn - December 4, 2009 07:48 PM (GMT)
Nice shrimpy!
Didn't you say you had baby clown plecos? I'd love to see photos of those.

Thanks for the compliments you guys! :)
I've been hanging out with my other friend today fixing his computers and making fun of his his Gateway laptop[it's challenged. lol] until it slammed on my hand. ROFL...
Anyways, I think I'm going to trade my A860 for this laptop I'm on [he said OK, pending on parents...]
and here is the screen shot so far [yes, I was playing on it...so ignore Ciara. ]:

It is an Acer Aspire 5610z and has everything I wanted!
Robyn, those clown plecos are HARD to get a shot off, big ones & small ones[the small ones now are 100% covered in plant matter in the smaller tank]. :( Sorry....the only good pic of one I got was an adult:

And that was almost a year ago! Wow! Time flies!
Mr-cichlid - December 5, 2009 01:22 PM (GMT)
Hello Kenny
I'm very worried about your bamboo shrimp. Bamboo shrimp are filter feeders and your bamboo shrimp's 'filter-fans' are down. See this bamboo shrimp if you want to know what one with the fans up looks like:
http://www.planetinverts.com/bamboo_shrimp2.jpg.
Now, 99% of the time, the bamboo shrimps will have their fans up. If they have them down while not resting and are picking at the substrate (this is not a natural way of feeding), this means they are starving. Bamboo shrimp come from fast-flowing mountain streams, and this should be replicated in the aquarium with a powerful filter on high-flow, and when you do so, they will put their fans up. They also need to be fed powder-food which should be placed near a powerhead, so the bamboo shrimp can grab it with their fans as it drifts past. They also like to have rocky tanks, with 'perches' on which they can stand on, but this is not necessary.
Hope I helped,
Mr-cichlid
kENNY - December 5, 2009 07:33 PM (GMT)
I'm not worried as I seen him on the air driven filter, fanning debries as the go by and fanning the water most of the time. I think he wasn't too sure of the camera as he still does not trust me just yet and if I walk up the talk real fast, he'll jump back in the mass of plants. For the most part tho, he trusts me.
Oh, I put in a Taiwan Moss covered rainbow rock too for him to "play" on.
Kenny
Robyn - December 6, 2009 02:13 AM (GMT)
Wood shrimp are delicate and hard to take care of. You can add some finer foods to the water column to help provide food for him.
kENNY - December 6, 2009 07:26 AM (GMT)
Robyn, I add little foods to him [spot feed], so I think he's getting enough.
He moulted, but sadly, my tank is too yellow to capture details [exo-skeleton] with the Webcam in my laptop. :( [Yes, that means I did get the Acer...traded the A860 for it]
kENNY - December 7, 2009 08:06 PM (GMT)
Poor Bamboo Shrimp.
I walked by the tank today and stepped on something and looked and it was a dried up 1.5-2" shrimp. :(
I won't be getting another one, but he was cool.
RIP Shrimp.
PS. Here is the Exo-Skeleton yesterday:

It's a kind of Blurry picture, but once again, I have the great fight from the HP cam. and the Acer took an OK pic of it.
Mr-cichlid - December 7, 2009 09:20 PM (GMT)
It's not normal for bamboo shrimp to crawl out of tanks...like amanos do...
I'd be a bit worried and investigate WHY it climbed it, and I am willing to bet it is something to do with your filtration as you need a very powerful filter (around 10x the tank volume) to keep these guys happy long term. :D

Hi Kenny
With a little planning etc as Mr cichlid said you would probably be able to keep them again so why just give in like that ? we all learn from our mistakes ourselves included.
Research goes half way to succsess. :)

Dave,
They are really too hard for me. I've researched/planned for 2 years now to FINALLY have one...but despite my best effort, I never knew how much he ate and I really don't want to kill another one and have another 11$ gone...

If anything goes in this tank from now on, I'm tempted by Chili/Pheonix Rasboras and/or Olive Nerite Snails.
I was thinking the black Kuhli Loaches I have, but bleck...I've had them since 2005-2006-ish...It's time for a change!

HI Kenny
It's a shame that you studied up on it and it died, now Mr cichlid has pointed you in the right direction with the right filtration and food you could have given this one more try and been succsessful at it. :)
We all make some mistakes so why not give it another try. :)

They are just plain black, no yellow stripping. They are quite cool, but I don't like them as much as my deceased Dojo Loach. :(
They never come up until I think they finally died. lol They are the few fish that actually use the hiding places.
Robyn - December 8, 2009 08:14 PM (GMT)
Poor shrimpy! Wood shrimp are hard to keep for anyone. I assume there are openings in the lid through which he jumped. I would close those off if you can in case your other animals get any bad ideas.

I setup a 1.5gal for least killifish...[kinda a biotope tank]
But since my main camera sucks, I just got a pic of the tank with the laptop. The Cory and Guppy probably freaked when they seen the flying gray[my lappy is gray rather then black] thing! LOL

It has:
Gravel: Inert, Brown, WalMart Gravel from the 55 & 10
Fish: Guppy [or endler???] fry and Bronze Cory [bigger then a fry] -> MOVING!
Plants: Anacharis, Green Hygrophila, & Java Moss[yes, all have been found growing in the river]
Rocks: Concrete? Shell in them??? They are also all in the river...a few of them cause much pain when fallen upon...LOL -> I went "swimming"[more like falling down a steep cliff into a watery abyss] to collect them, my friends were laughing but I [almost] made them get another ride home. LOL Who's laughing now!!???
I couldn't be that mean, I went back and got 'em.
Broxandval - December 12, 2009 09:37 AM (GMT)
Hi Kenny
Your so lucky to be able to do that try giving them a soak in acreflavin which is a
Koi disinfectant which will help you rid the plants of anything that is piggybacking into your tank on the back of Java Fern. :)
Just ask at your local fish outlet if they havent and you could always order or ask if they have a US version of it or anything that would do the same for you. :)
Your lucky the waters relitively warm in Florida , (oh we would have paid to see you fall in Laughy Laughy Laughy but at least you can see the funny side of it now
