Title: Ordered New Filter Today
Description: Eheim 2224 Professional External Filter

colourfulfish - July 11, 2009 07:24 PM (GMT)
Very excited today as we ordered the above filter for our tank! ;) Done some research and googling (and taking Broxandval's advice) and managed to find one quite cheap compared to the price the shop was selling it at. Went to the store and they matched the price for us - how cool is that! Looking forward to it as the current filter we have is an internal one and not really ideal for the tank. Can't get much filter media in this current one so the new one is going to be amazing! Fingers crossed it will be with us in the next couple of weeks. :)

Hi Colourfulfish
Ahhh good old Eheim !!!... you bought a real class of filter when you decided on external filtration as Eheim Filter's are just about the best filter you can buy. :)
The 2224 is a Professional II filter and is sort of the fore runner to the monster sized Eheim 2080 EX Professional III, which we have. :)
We also have two 20+ year old Eheim 2117 cannister filters (still in use one as a vacuum cleaner the other on the hospital/QT tank). :)
Note:- The 2117 is still being sold but has been re-named the Eheim classical Filter and as to part numbers they haven't changed.
They are German in make and extra reliable as Eheim really know their collective stuff. :)
Cant wait to hear of it being up and running. :)

PS Take a note of this number for future refrence 01284 755051 It's the number for a company called John Allen Aquatics , they are also the only Eheim Service's in the UK, so if you ever get a problem give them a bell. :) Fishiedude Flowersmile

Grrr we are gutted    Came home today to a voicemail from the shop to say that they cannot get hold of that particular filter as it is being discontinued by the manufacturer! So they offered the alternative version Eheim Pro 3!!! At over double the price :o

Will look online for a price comparison.....

Why the shop couldn't tell us that in the first place is beyond me as they were adamant they could get hold of it. So they got our deposit as well (thankfully fully returnable) grrrr  (weekend staff springs to mind along with a clever sales technique).

Hi colourfulfish
I'm a little confused here  they are discontinuing the prof II ? why it's a damn good filter
The Prof III is the momster we have on our koi setup and is way too powerful for your tank( it would blow it apart at 450 gals per/hr)lol.
You could always ask about the 2217 Eheim classical which is more than enough to do the job for your setup. :)
Check out this link to make sure they are discontinuing it or not they have a direct link to a dedicated email service. :) http://www.eheim.de/eheim/inhalte/index.js...D028BB?id=24861
We think that all the shop is trying to do is sell you something you dont really need at a price of around £220.
Visit a few more sites you'll probably find a prof II on there. :)
In fact you dont have to as weve done it for you, try this link which weve used on a number of occasions, they have always come up trumps!!!..... :) :) http://www.aquariumsuperstore.co.uk/mall/e...rofessional.asp
Guess what they even still sell the Prof II no mention of them being discontinued :)

I'm a bit partial to Rena FilStar Canister Filters...but I've never tried Eheim...Both of my friends who have it though say that they forget it's even running!!

I might give one a whorl...but it'll probably be the "classic" like 2213 I think. I might go higher for the 75...hmmm. Just can't be a high enough flow to blow my betta boy around.

I have always been a Hagen Fluval person but nowadays I tend to use other brands like Tetratec.

Hi Jayesh
Tetratec I'm affraid to say arent all that good, the Tetratec Ex 1200 that we bought didn't like to be moved and always leaked after cleaning and repositioning under the tank and at 1200 ltr's per/hr you cannot afford a leak (not in your front room can you?) . :(
When a filter starts doing that my friend you soon get fed up of it and move on. :(
Now the Fluval FX5 is a bit of a beast and as a filter rates with the Eheim Prof III as they are both unltra reliable.
Though in saying this there was a desin problem with the release catch (hose conector) on the Prof III but Eheim put their hand up to it and supplied the replacement part free of charge

Awesome, I have 3 FX5s, I personally love 'em, they are truly great filters! All my filters are Fluvals, except for a Blagdon, two Fishmates (these two do the 5000 gal together, I know they aren't the best of quality but they are cheap things and do a lot of filtration for their price) a Tetratec and a Rena.
My only Tetratecs are a Tetratec IN Plus.

I think so, they aren't on full force though, they are on medium on the 70 gal and high on the 150 gal.

This is where I got them, are these the FX5s you mean? Apparently these ones do 607 US gallons/505 UK gallons per hour so I'm not sure what FX5 you mean...because I thought this one was the only model.

Hi Jayesh
Yes those are the ones, (I'm sure I read 950 gals per hr) oh well only 505 gals mind you for an external that is still some turn over. :)

Further :- I know where the 950 gallons came from, it was the combined input/output of both of our filters the Eheim prof III 2080 at 445 gallond per/hr and the FX5 at 505, my I'm getting forgetful in my middle years Laughy Laughy Laughy Laughy
