Title: Underlined Ads
Description: Do you see them too?
Robyn - April 5, 2009 01:28 AM (GMT)
The last few weeks, I've noticed that select words in the forum postings are underlined in green and link to ads. This is new. I wonder if Invision Free did it? Do you see them too? I suggest ignoring them. I just wanted everyone to know that I didn't do it! ;)

I haven't seen them on this Forum et..but have on other forums...they really annoy me and get in the way...
I would imagine Invision Free did it to gte some money....AD's do pay...
If I put them on my blog...I'll get money..but I personally, don't like them...so I'm not doing that to anyone else just to get money....
My WebSite doesn't even ask...it automatically puts them on unless I pay for an app. that takes them off...Then what's the point of a FREE website?
Sorry to ramble on..I'll try not to do it yet again in the future.

Erm...the reason webs.com and invisionfree are free is BECAUSE of the ads.

That's a good point. I've never seen them on this forum, so maybe it's the way I have my browser (Firefox) configured, but if it is, I certainly don't know what I did to accomplish it.

Maybe it's something with my computer here then. My father insists he didn't change anything but we're getting pop ups we don't want, and the computer won't let me click on links as it says pop ups are disabled (I right click open in a new window to get around it). In Arey's signature for example, it double green underlined "career" and goes to some site that's all numbers (I didn't click on it).

You may want to read this exchange between some people on a forum. Sounds like this person has the same problem.http://wordpress.org/support/topic/219416
The end up referring to an adware program called Kontera Contentlink that does exactly what you are experiencing. Sounds like an adware that might have been added by a driveby download. I'll see what I can find that might help you get rid of it.
In the meantime, go get Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, a free program and try running it to get rid of the PITA. Also, get and run Spybot, available at download.com Also, make sure your virus program is up to date on definitions.

Did you upgrade to the new internet explorer?

Here's another link where someone wants to turn Contenlink off. It may be part of the program from InvisionFree. Don't know yet. Will see what I can find.http://www.highdefforum.com/forum-feedback...nk-kontera.html

There is also a reference to this as being a plug-in for a program called WordPress. I'm not familiar with that program, but apparently people use it in writing blogs.

Nope, we didn't put up the new Internet Explorer. The ads say they're from "Gamevance Advertisement." My mother mostly uses our home computer and visits every site in the world at least twice! [Ignore slight exaggeration.] My father is the computer expert but he's not in good mental shape right now so I don't dare try to get him to fix it. He didn't know how to fix the pop ups we never used to get so he blocked all of them instead. I'm not a computer expert. So, if you can explain in idiot terms how to turn it off, I would appreciate it.

WordPress is used in writing blogs.. Could it be part of InvisionFree and the ContentLink is a plugin for WordPress that you have somehow activated? Just a guess.
