Title: Senior Members
Description: New group

Robyn - December 8, 2008 04:01 PM (GMT)
I created a senior members group. When you go over 500 posts, you become a senior member. If you are already over that, I have moved you to the senior members (9 of us to start).

What can they do that full members cannot?

1. They and only they can read and reply to posts in the senior members forum.
2. They can open and close their open topics that they started.
3. They can delete their own topics that they started.
4. They can avoid moderation (which is only in the new members section) so they can post there without my approval.
5. They can add events to the calendar (I've never even used the calendar myself).
6. They can store 100 PM messages instead of 50.

Hi Robyn
Having a look at the top ten posters some have over a thousand posts are on the top list but are new members not Senior

B&V The users on the top 10 list that have not been moved up yet probably haven't re-registered with the forum. Remember when Robyn made the change and she asked some of the "old members" to re-post so she could move them? If she moved every single user that has ever registered she would be at it a very long time and would go  . She only moved the most active. So long story short, if they haven't posted in a while they have to re-register.

I just looked at one of the top 10 and one person hasn't submitted a post since 2007. They will need to re-register. Not a big deal. Just one little post in the "New Members Post Here" section and your in like flinn after Robyn moves you :)

I personally would go through major withdrawals if I didn't post in that amount of time Cryerbaby

There are thousands of members. I went back as far as 100 days and upgraded anybody with more than about 5 posts who I recognized to full members. Then, I pulled all posters with over 500 posts in the full members to the senior members. I'm curious, who had over 1000 posts who hasn't posted in the last 100 days. I wonder if I'd remember them. I'll have to find the top posters section.

Ok, found it. There are only three members with more than 500 posts who haven't posted in the last 100 days. They are Tommy (who used to ask a TON of questions), Reptileguy2727 (really in to reptiles!), and Johnnyboy (way back when). I remember them; I wonder what happened to them? Among those with more than 100 posts, about a quarter of them haven't posted in the least 100 days including Christina2lehner, Naughtyfish (remember her; she was from Australia and in to paradise fish), NJbiology (he did a lot of posts), and JarrodRossi (worked at a pet store?). I wonder what happened to them all. Anyway, since they haven't posted in a long time, I'd prefer they come in by posting in the new members section. Once they're in, they would be upgraded to senior members if they make a post count over 500.

Having a forum for senior members is a good idea. It is usual practice to at least have a private admin/mods forum and often to have a "backroom" for the most active members of a forum.

However it would be a pity if the most experienced members posted about their ponds and aquariums etc in a private forum where the people who most need to learn from them would be unable to read what they are saying.

Most "backrooms" are mostly social in nature for that reason. Guests, newbies and even full members need to be able to read about the forum related (in this case ponding etc) activities of the more experienced members.

Having new members post in a restricted area with the posts moderated before they can post in the main other forums is a very good idea though.

I don't think that will be a problem here and it wouldn't be what Robyn would want either. We all love to chat and share what we have learned and what went wrong with everyone. :)

Hi ColdGold
Part of the new member having to post in a restricted area is to stamp down on the really graffic porn images that plagued this site.

Don't fret non-Senior members, we're not talking about much in the senior forum. We're just going to talk about moderation business and maybe a few things we don't want to share with the world. Anyone can read the topics in all the other forums. If we want to talk about our animals, aquariums, and ponds, we're going to do it in the main forum, not the senior member section.

I am very aware of that which is why I think it is such a good idea :D

In my time zone I get to see lots of it while the moderators are sleeping.

Even when you have the option to block isp s you are still better off moderating the first few posts of new members and limiting where they can post.

Hi ColdGold
Even though I am a thick skinned former Serviceman some of the images that were posted even made me blush,we are glad to see the back of them and glad so see Robyn as everything in hand and under control.
