Description: Hermit crab

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone can tell me about a build up in the back of their shells.
I have a few in white shells and I am able to see a green build up on the inside of their shells. I have no idea as to what it is and if it is danger or not.

thanks in advance

bob

Hi Bob and welcome to the forum! :)

I think there are a few members that have hermet crabs that might be able to answer your question. Robyn will be on here later today too.

Here is Robyns page about hermit crabs: http://www.fishpondinfo.com/shrimp/hermit.htm

Good luck with your crab!
Tia

Is the build up on the inside of the shell or the outside? If it's algae on the outside or debris, that would be fine. Anything on the inside, the crab should be cleaning himself. Provide other shells so he can change them if he wants to. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother him. Gunk inside may just be substrate or food or waste. The crab should clean it out if he can.

Thanks for that info Robyn, the build up is on the inside so there is little I can do anyway. I have extra shells laid out for them.

Regards
Bob
