Rugalith and her small 'family' fled Fort, fled all of the Weyrs for once the other Weyrs found out that a 'False Queen' had not only stolen the weyrmate of a Senior Queen but fled and 'stole' twenty riders and dragons of the Weyr, they would not be welcome into any Weyr. However, they would not be weyrless for as long as they feared.
It had been two sevendays since they had fled Fort and slowly Rugalith was becoming heavy with Urlith's clutch and they HAD to find someplace to settle for the time it took to lay her clutch...though without Candidates her young was destined for death, for Between before their lives even began. As the small group travelled over Southern Hold a strong wind current hit them, HARD. The Southern Currents were more powerful then what it had ever been, flinging dragons and riders through the air like ragdolls, East, sending them all into a range of Redstone Mountains in the heart of a desert that had never truly been travelled before. It truly must have been fate that the small group was deposited in this area for the heat of the sun reflecting off the white desert sands would have drained the humans to no end without the shade. It was then that 'tempoary' lodging would be created in the Redstone until they could move on and find more suitable surroundings, and for the first time in many turns riders and Theirs truly worked side by side to create a home. The Redstone was soft enough to dig into with the claws of Theirs but strong enough to hold up to sandstorms and within it was cool enough that the humans and dragons could survive. There was one true problem though, water, this was a desert and it rarely ever rained and due to this the group was suffering, especially the young Gorfintin who's pale skin burned easily and due to being so petite was more susceptible to heatstroke, and even with the comfort of his weyrmate, N`tunv, he suffered. With the day to Rugalith laying her clutch growing ever closer she became deperate and began to dig in the center of sand surrounded by the Redstone. She dug for hours and must have hit something, a watertable or an underground spring or something because at one moment there was a great dug hole and the next water began to agonizingly slowly fill it but it was water, filtered through the sand to refresh Hers and their small group. With the discovery of this new water source and a large natural heated sand filled cavern nearby...Rugalith refused to move...she was too close to Clutching...she couldn't move and with that a Weyr, though infantile, was born. Unfortunately, Rugalith's fears were realized, even though she Clutched thirty-nine eggs and every one of them hatched, without Candidates to Bond to every single dragonet threw themself Between. The depression hit the Siren hard and for ten turns Gorfintin did not sing and Rugalith did not Rise. For ten turns she and her weyrmate aided Theirs and the other dragonriders within their tiny family to turn these giant red rocks into a home, slowly turning what had once been a desolate area into a Weyr. Over this time they made friendships with nearby Holds and villages for supplies and slowly dragons began to sense minds of young individuals who could possibly Stand for a Hatching, if their Siren ever Rose again that is. It began one night, crystal clear and cool that N`tunv was awakened to the voice of his weyrmate, Gorfintin was singing and Rugalith had taken to the skies glowing brighter then ever before. Though this Flight was shorter than her Maiden Flight, only three hours, Urlith Caught her once more and once more a Clutch was laid of eighteen eggs. The day Rugalith and Urlith's Clutch Hatched two things occured. One: their home was named and had truly become a Weyr with this Hatching and Two: eight new colors appeared on Pern. From the Birth of these new dragons many turns have passed. Rugalith and Hers have long since passed along with five other Siren Senior Queens, each leaving their own legacy's behind, however, none can be more grateful to them, none can say they would be where they were without the Hatching of an unwanted Green so long ago, giving birth to a new Era on Pern, that of Final Haven. |
