The Temple of Fiends stood tall over the lush Cornerian woodland. While no longer the imposing image of dark power and unholy beauty that it had once been, a feeling of unease--not evil, but...change, of sorts--still filled the air.

Vines, brambles, bushes and many other plants had finally been brave enough to take over the Temple, and now adorned it's towers and crumbling, sagging walls. An elaborately carved archway led into an overgrown courtyard, where once proud stone sentinals now lay in ruins, overdone by the fury of nature.

Silvian Sinclaire leaned against a collapsed fountain, staring up at the enormous temple with bored eyes. What he was thinking was a mystery, but he seemed impatiant.

He checked the sun, then looked back again. He was waiting. Waiting for someone.

Or something.

Anton walked into the courtyard, seeing the man, he presumed to be a certian Silvian Sinclare according to the mark he recieved, leaning against a crumbling, ruined fountain. Feeling wary about this ancient temple, Anton wondered what the old structure could hold, the dangers seemed limitless, ranging from monsters to the collapse of the temple itself, considering its condition.

Anton approached Silvian. "You here on assignment from Lady Matoya?" he said, standing tall to give himself an impressive appearance. Realizing that this ninja had most likley seen some serious fighting in his time, and most likley would not be stirred by the action, Anton settled into a relaxed slouch.

He sat on the mossy ground, resting before the mission ahead of him and his companions, and waited for a response from Sinclare.

~Crono~
Ah. The Temple of Fiends. He remembered reading about it's history. He liked it even more now that Nature had taken control. Crono had approached from the back of the Temple, and was making his way to the front, just running his hand along the vine covered wall. He stopped next to one vine and concentrated on it. After a minute, he pulled his hand away, and a piece of the vine came with it. Crono wrapped it around his arm and gave it a nod.
There. Now I'll know of any large gaps in the floor. After all, Nature could communicate with Nature and vines could communicate with vines.

It took about another hour, but he made it around to the front where two others were standing near a fountain. One was wearing ringmail and the other didn't look the type who would write that hesitant Mark, so he assumed the scholar who put up the Mark wasn't here yet.

~Ranar~
I can't believe it! He thought. I got up early and everything, but I'm still going to be late! He would be running as fast as he could go, but Ranar knew he'd be tired shortly and would have to rest. So he walked at his usual speed. The various plant life on each side of the road beckoned him, but he resisted the urge and continued on. After all, he'd be comming back this way anyway.

After about another half-hour of trudging along, Ranar saw the ruin that used to stand so darkly. He got a little excited at the sight of it. There was bound to be many a specimen in there. He quickened his pace and arrived where three others were standing. One curiously, had a length of vine around his arm. "I'm not that late am I?" He asked.

Silvian regarded the assembled group boredly and nodded, once at them, and again at the temple. He sighed a bit, looking up at the cloudless sky before speaking.

"Our...host? Employer? The guy who posted the Mark informed me that he would not b coming along, due to health reasons. He trusts us enough to get the crystal for him--which is idiotic, but I suppose naivete has it's charms. At anyrate, he did manage to give me the location for the gem--our only trouble is getting to it."

He kicked up a small cloud of dush as he upturned a piece of shrubbery with his foot.

"Temple's in lockdown. Cornerian Army did that--so, we can't get down to the basement all that easily. However, since our target--a very large tiger statue--isn't far down, we don't have to deal with as much security. As it is, we just have to find and deactivate one of the security crystals in place. This scholar gave me the password to the Water Ward, where we can find the crystal and deactivate it. The Ward--and the basement--are full of hostiles. Nothing terribly powerful, but dangerous nonetheless."

He nodded to himself, satisfied.

"Any questions before we head in?"

"I got one; what the hell is down there?" Anton inquired. He peered towards the enterance of the temple with mild wonder, contemplating what was down there that wanted to rip his throat out. Not too worried, seeing that his companions seemed fairly powerful, and capable of trashing whatever monster lay in wait, he simply waited for an answer to his question instead of pushimg for one.

Standing now, and brushing dust and grime off his clothing, Anton fingered his katars, ready to put them to use, and wondering when the last time he weilded them. He became impatient with the time spent not on a mission, and regretted asking a question.

"I'm guessing the Ward is in the basement then?" Crono asked. "Or do you plan to make a side trip down there?" He turned to face the temple. "What I'm wondering about is why the army locked this place down. It could be some idiotic plot or plan by the king, but I don't think even he would order anybody here without good reason." He absently stroked the vine on his arm, already speaking through it, asking other vines the stability of the floors and whatnot.

Ranar nodded along with what the third guy was talking about. Ranar didn't want to make some senseless, potentially deadly, side trip for nothing. He then thought of something. "We don't really need to worry about the destroying of the Ward." Ranar said, his eyes twinkling. "I can probably fix something up from the local plants combined with things I brought. If you'll excuse me a second." He went off a little ways, looking at the flora around where his teammates were, picking up a plant every now and then. After a little while he re-joined the group. "Ok, let's go."

Silvian shook his head, brushing his bangs from his eyes. He turned and began to walk towards the ominous opening to the Temple.

"Water Ward isn't far in. This place is designed rather simply, so ya'll shouldn't worry 'bout getting lost. However..."

He paused, standing on the threshold of the Temple.

"Like I said. Dangerous place. The magics around the Temple are far too powerful for any one man to break. The Wards are vitally important, so try not to mess with anything you don't have to."

"Well then, let us carefully venture into this crumbling ruin. It looks half way structurally secure, and if the monsters guarding said ward are not that powerful, this should be easy," Anton said.

Grabbing one katar and leaving the other attached to his girdle, the knight moved foreward, standing next to Silvian on the threshold. He felt confident in his abilities, and was sure that he could suceed easily in this mission, get a nice pay check, and have some rest. the mercenary business tires him, after all.

"Then let's go." Crono drew his rapier and held it to his side. He stopped directly inside the door and examined the interior of the building, looking around to see what he could use for geomancing. There was an erie calm about the place that didn't seem to right to him, so he made as through search as he could with his eyes, moving to duck behind a nearby column. Something isn't right. He thought. He moved to where he could see his companions and looked to see if they had picked up on it or not.

"So do we or do we not have to destroy to Water Ward?" Ranar asked, looking a tad bit puzzled. "And if we could for a little bit, I can make an explosive powder that should at least damage it." Ranar watched the guy with the vine on his arm slink off around a column after looking at the inside for a bit. Apparently, something inside was making him a little nervous. "Wonder what's wrong with him?" Ranar asked to nobody in particular, indicating who he was talking about with a nod to the guy inside.

The interior of the temple had an odd beauty to it. The walls were covered in vines, coiling about each other and over statues of monstrous forms. Demonic effigies, hellish murals, the bloodstains that once decorated these walls, all of them had been taken over my nature's power.

The silence was incredible. It was solemn. This was not a place of man. This was not a place of beasts, or monsters. This was a place of the gods. A holy land--a kind of holiness that could kill you.

Silvian walked into a cluster of columns, walking towards an engraved doorway. This area looked newer, cleaner than the rest of the temple. There wasn't as much overgrowth, and the two images that guarded the door were those of Alluria--the local Cornerian Goddess of Light.

Silvian traced a hand over the carven images that adorned the doorway, sighing. He reached into his pocket and produced small stone shard, like a dagger. He pulled back his hand and thrust, the shard sliding into a small openeing in the door with a loud click.

The door slid into the floor with a loud woosh, and cold, salty air blasted the group. Silvian nodded at the earthen tunnel that stretched before them. It was dark, long, uneven, and had straggly roots dangling from the ceiling.

"This leads to the sea. It's a mile-long tunnel, and somewhere along that path is the resting place of our Ward."

This typy of silence made Anton mildy uneasy. And the statues didnt help. They made him feel underpowered and weak, like his katars, normally dealers of slashing death, were mere pins, capable of drawing only a tiny bead of blood. Still though, his solder instinct jarred him, and he stepped into the viny hallway. He allowed the salty smell to engulf and cloud him, so that he wouldnt be bewildered by it when he needed to concentrate. Feeling the overwhelming scent realease him, Anton turned his attention to his companion, Ranar.

"I dont think that tampering with the Ward with any type of explosives is a good idea, and with the godly aura this place gives off, a plant concoction wouldn't do any good, from what experience tells me. Personally, I am not going to touch them. I would rather not be blown into tiny pieces by some powerfil magics."

Looking back inside, Anton wondered what could lay in this trecherous hallway. Any scepticism he had before about the simplicity of this mission had left. The divine power of the place was too overbearing.

Crono didn't much prefer the salty air that flew in his face all of a sudden, but there wasn't much to do about it. He sheathed his weapon and walked up to examine one of the statues. "Interesting." He remarked. He turned to regard the tunnel. "I've had second thoughts on this. Seems too easy to me, so I'll withdraw my services." He turned and walked away from the party without a backwards glance.

Hmm. If this tunnel lead to the sea, he could pick up some salt water for.... No, he needed to concentrate on the task at hand. He had to admit, he was being a bit hasty in wanting to blow up the Ward. Heck, it was even said that the Wards were important. He must just be a little anxious. He watched the guy go with a little regret. That'd be one less person to lend a hand in case something came up. Oh well, that ment Ranar would get a bigger cut of the reward. That perked him up a bit.
