I do suppose it takes some time to get to understanding this place.
I mean, I've been here quite a long time now, and I still don't understand half of what happens here. What I do know is...well, I'll tell you.
The Cleft of Dimensions is, I believe, limitlessly large. There is no end or beginning to it, really. It is composed of space, time, matter and antimatter. Creatures that live here are often shadows of creatures from other worlds, or else ancient monstrosities that were formed where the Nexus and the Void meet.
Oh yes, I must clarify the terminology. See, while the Cleft is limitlessly large, it is still "divided" so to speak. You travel the Cleft either by walking along whatever pieces of earth and matter you can get across, or by flying, either via magical or technological means. The Cleft is where we are now--an empty space.
Its a sort of "limbo". Its very quiet here--none of the hustle and bustle of the Nexus, nor the dark chaos of the Void. Here is where things settle and reside. It may seem boring, but its also safe. Not to mention that it has its own secrets to hide--like that blasted Spire. God knows how many adventurers have died in that place. Belongs in the Void it does.
Ah, yes, the Void. Many 'o you know of it. It is a place of pure destruction, where annhilation births chaos which births pandemodium. Madness and death await those who venture within. The Void is not "evil" just as the Nexus is not "good". Rather, it is an essential natural aspect of Creation. Within the Void are arbiters of destruction, created in order to destroy. By itself, the Void would pose little threat--as long as you stay outside of it. Only those who seek to unleash the Void's power, like the Warlock Enuo or that Sorceress...Ulti...Ultim...eh, it'll come to me...only those who meddle in such affairs are the ones who cause trouble.
The Void holds tremendous power, and tresures beyond anything--put there by people who didn't want them found, or wanted them to be lost forever. Though I say it time and again, nobody listens--its not worth your life to go after foolish things like treasure. Some say the true source of Black Magic lies in the Void.
The Nexus, the third region of the Cleft, is the complete opposite of the Void. While the Void talks of destruction, the Nexus exists for creation. Blink an eye and something new pops out of the Nexus. The true source of White Magic lies within, which is responsible for life itself to exist. The Void and the Nexus are technically seperated by the Cleft, and by powerful currents of energy called "Laylines". These are the "borders" and represent the flow of energy from each into the infinite worlds. Some places, like my cave, lie in a place where three Laylines--Creation, Oblivion, and Destruction--meet. The temporal energies of these places can cause airships to malfunction--or else to change into small, fuzzy animals. Depends on which Layline, really.
The Moogles seem to know a lot about these sorts of things. I really ought to ask them...but their lil bon-bons are so cute! I get so distracted trying to play with them...
At anyrate, the World Order Society built its Headquarters here. The "cube" as I call it, is a town, a fortress and a research center all-in-one. Its here where we open the Doors to other worlds, and you need permits and permissions from us before you can travel the worlds all willy-nilly. Its a bustling place, set in the calmest part of the Cleft.
I suppose that's all...I need to go have tea with the Moogle Elders...hee hee...oh those bon-bons...
