Personally, i would be happy if there were multiple campaigns in this mod like:
Taipale sector campaign, Summa sector, Ladoga Karelia, Suomusalmi and such for example.

You propably would need to do more islands for that.

Unfortunantly our resources are spread so thin that its depeding vastly how many mission makers we can recruit when time comes and with help of them we could patch up a campaign.

Of course when all this is released nobody is stopping you to make campaign for it, in fact I would love to see it and encourage everybody to do missions or campaigns for this mod wink.gif

If you want your missions to be historically accurate, here's a link for every day combat events in the winter war: Winter war day by day

Thank you, I am familiar with it and I have read it few times. When you have been doing a mod for 5 years (I search for something pretty much every day), you tend to go through a lot avalaible resources, especially ones in internet. When we started on this mod there was one book of Finlands wars, now 80% of my bookshelf is about Finlands wars in WW2.

Neverless, thank you and if you think you have something that might help us, don't hesitate to post it here. You never know, maybe it is something new for us too.

However about campaign plot, can't say quit yet will it follow exact events to the date, we certainly would like to keep some room manouver and this way we can add variation on missions.

OT: Got chance to even read actual battle reports (company level) from 5th division on times that Mannerheim-line collapsed on Summa. Also same veteran showed me his diary/notes from the time.

I got one question: Are the creators of the original FDF helping you on this ww2 addon, or are you more or less alone?

We were never part of FDF and still are not. FDF and we share, you could say, mutual understanding and respect. Besides that we have nothing to do with them, even if there was some discussion about cooperation when this mod was found in 2004.

I do think FDF members have more than enough to do with their own mod.

So in short we are alone with this mod (always have been and always will be).

Just wondering if you have planned and discussed anything about the storyline in the campaign? For me it is propably the most interesting thing in this modification, especially if it's historically accurate.
And if someone have any ideas about the campaign/storyline they could post it here.

We basicly have OFP era storyline for campaign, might be that we make it slightly shorter than originaly. A lot depends how much we can get mission makers to join up.

Not especially historically accurate story, might be slightly, but no correct actual events at least in constant basis.

What kind of campaign style are you focusing on?

For example you could make a storyline based campaign in one persons perspective, meaning that you play that same character during each mission.
In that case, there is only one sector of a front you fight in.

Or you could do a campaign based on historical accuracy where you have multiple units you can play (team switch), like in the original ARMA campaign(no character storylines). More than one front could in that case also be avialable.
And in each misson you se an overview of the current situation of the front like it really was back then.

But it's for the mission makers to decide, as there are different ways a campaign could be made.

It is too early say since we really don't have campaign script beyond of few single independant mission scripts. Also at the moment we don't have mission maker staff at all, resulting such to dreams of better future. I would say that its greatly depending what level and how many mission makers we can get to join when time comes that we start recruiting them.

I would personally go for character driven campaign, either with single person or two persons.

Such will be given when its properiate for mission or if on every mission it will be from main characters point of view. Independant missions this is much easier to do.

Well we do hope a lot involvement from 3rd party mission makers when mod is released, its always satisfying to see your work used beyond closed circles.

Hopefully Summa map will be with this first release too! I mean, I'm working with an nice little description, what is strongly based to captain Raetpalos memories about despaired battle in Lähteenlohko.

Among other things in that battle, 40 soviet tanks break through finnish lines and started to roll Lähteentie to west and east. Only about 1 section+Raetpalo himself against them and red army elite, parts of 124. Sniper Division.

Does anybody recognise that story?

I think you will have an little clue when this mod comes out cool.gif I'm making that description so it will be (of course) playable, but it follows very closely captain Raetpalos memorials.

Well it is an single struggle in Summa battles, but very good story! I founded it from a book written by mr. Pentti H. Tikkanen, that book is called: "Suomen toinen vapaustaistelu".

Not fan of P.Tikkanen writings, I find him pretty much one of most lousiest writers there is in Finnish WW2 front. I suggest E. Palolampi's Kollaa Kestää (Published 1940, so before sensor hit on), also W.Halsti's books are worth of reading.

And no Summa map wont be included on release, only Taipale as it serves well variety offering good generic map.

However nothing stops you building your dream area beyond regular map limits, its very well possible for instance in Schmalfden as well it will be on our map, all objects are made avalaible for mission editors (inc. trees and roads, last suffers minor height problem thou).

It won't be an problem to build Summa/Lähde look a like scenario for Taipale map. Like you know gentlemen, FDF Mods island called Rukajärvi includes battlefields around Finland. From Petsamo to Karelian Isthmus rolleyes.gif

WARNING! Offtopic starts:
I found from Rukajärvi island at least: Ihantala (without Ihantala river dry.gif ), Tali, Salla, Summa, Äyräpää and Vuosalmi, Siiranmäki, Taipale and Viipurinlahti look a like. What's my point in this? Everything is possible, when you use little bit your imagination biggrin.gif

Oh and Mr. Von Rundt. Are you going to put some finnish radio voices for korpisotureille? There wern't so many english speaking fighters at the front though sleep.gif

Ferder! Wasn't it you making an campaign description for FWW2? Could you please tell us how is your progress?

Well I actually got second offer for mission help today, so might be that we make short campaign. We do have beginning of a "story" script already.

PS. Sorry for lack of updates, been quite ill recently.

Not moving (some mission scripts exist), we don't have island and team is preoccupied with other relevant work. Since steelexia took over with island it has seen notable and fast improvement.
However we do need some mission makers when we get island ready, so if anybody has any interest please be in contact with me.
