Well, first off there are different things a member can be promoted for. Since people have different skills and sometimes more than one, instead of posting a gallery or what we call at ALMOST FAMOUS, a portfolio, of just graphics or skins. You get to post one gallery with multiple things. Here are a list of fields you might want to show offGRAPHICS - this includes icons, signatures, headers, site graphics etc. SKINS - either screencaps or actual links to the skin topic, these can be ones you've recently made or have made PLOT PAGES, CODING PAGES - there are a lot of things that can be beautifully coded now a days. plot pages, AIM pages, etc. used on RPGs. again, screencaps or actual links to the topic can be shown in your portfolio. SITES - whether actual websites or RPGs, screencaps or links can be put on display in your portfolio WRITING - poems, plots, etc. are welcome as well As you can see there are lot of things you are welcome to post in your portfolio. We realize that a lot of people are good at more than one thing so you're welcome to post a combination of what you want to show off in the first post of your portfolio. From there during promotions you will be sorted into the different ranks which are:STARVING ARTIST - everyone starts off here, this is where all members will get to post their portfolios. after which if they wish to be promoted they can apply to be. BREAKTHROUGH ARTISTS - this is the second level meaning either they don't have a lot of things in their portfolio and/or the caliber of their work can be improved upon. B-LIST - they're mostly good at what they do, they still have a few things to work on and build up more in their portfolio but are on their way. A-LIST - these people have a good selection in their portfolio, typically they will have a combination of different things in their gallery or are great at their particular skill. LEGENDS - this is the highest position someone can be promoted to. whether they are highly exceptional at one thing or many things, they have come recommended by their peers or have been recognized for their work. Since there are a lot of areas in which a member can be promoted for the promotions will work in three parts. I know, it already sounds a lot at, three as compared to one. But, this is just to make sure the decision is made fairly. The promotion system is based on a three part system: self, peers, and staff. This way we get to listen to you, what other members think, and we can look at peoples' work subjectively instead of objectively.
SELF If someone wants to be promoted they should show interest in it. Therefore we're asking if someone would like to be promoted that you post in the designated area so that we know that you wish to. It shows initiative. While, posting that you'd like to be promoted we will ask for your opinion of which ranking you think you think you should be promoted to. It's a fair question to see where you gauge your skills. You can be as humble or not as you want to be.
PEERS Because when you post to be promoted you are also asked to think of at least one other person to be promoted and what they should be promoted to. Other members can think you deserve to be promoted because of your activity or skill, but either way they recognize that you deserve it, which is something we want to listen to.
STAFF Finally when the staff looks at the promotions we take into consideration your opinion and your fellow members we weigh that with our own judgment and that way, we hope to promote people fairly and accurately. We understand everyone has different tastes and skills so the staff can't be the only people to make that call. Thus including you and other members in the process, we get an extra pair of eyes.
