It would seem that the address "www.exterminatusnow.co.uk" is redirecting to a GoDaddy advertisement page instead of the actual website at present.

Just in case it wasn't already known.

My link is this: http://exterminatusnow.comicgenesis.com/

Is there something different between the two? I know nothing of the interwebz, so... I thought one would redirect to the other for some reason...

Is there something different between the two?  I know nothing of the interwebz, so...  I thought one would redirect to the other for some reason...

The ComicGenesis URL is the master link, and there's two secondary URLs that redirect all traffic to the ComicGenesis one: the .co.uk link is a quick register from Nominet UK, and the old KeenSpace one (http://exterminatusnow.keenspace.com).

All URLs are just an easier way to represent and look up an IP address (which'd be hard to remember, advertise etc, being just numbers), which is a physical server's presence on the internet. No data is really held within a URL, they're just practically signposts which lead to the data on the server.

So, when you type in http://exterminatusnow.co.uk, it looks up the URL in Nominet's database, which tells it to redirect anyone visiting that site to http://exterminatusnow.comicgenesis.com. The lookup of this URL shows that it needs to get pages from a server at IP 66.220.2.20, which then fetches information for you.

While the .co.uk link is a redirect and will typically take a tiniest fraction of a second longer to fetch the page, the tradeoff is worth it; remembering the .co.uk address is easier than the ComicGenesis or Keenspace one.

My guess that it's now not redirecting is that the URL hasn't been renewed (paid for)?

Hehehe.

I was having trouble getting the redirect system for http://Exterminatusnow.co.uk to run again - sticking the address into the appropriate box alone wasn't seeming to have much effect.
So I was considering sending (yet another) e-mail to the support team, see what they had to say.

Except that I opened my e-mail just then, and found they'd already sent me an answer to the question I was about to ask.

That's some quality service right there.

Exterminatusnow.co.uk should be working as intended again.

What browser are you using? Firefox'll let you grab anything from your history when you start to type it.

Which is annoying for me; I try and access our Uni's intranet service (NottinghamTrentUni Online Workspace), so I type 'now', and it just gets a load of forum links up XD

I always use Favourites at home, but I've always had to use Google whenever I want to find the comic on any other computer, especially at school. No more!

...of course, now I'm finished with school. Bah. Bah I say.

So, do you think perhaps noticing we'd registered this address over 4 years ago might have been helpful to you? :P

More than that, even if you don't have it in your history, simply typing "exterminatus now" into the address bar will take you to the first Google result. Heck, I just typoed it as "extermiatus now" and it still found the right page. Even when on other computers without history and bookmarks, I rarely type full adresses any more, I just type the page title in Firefox and more often than not it finds it :P

Mike, this topic's been dead for a few days now, go check the rules before posting any more. Only viable use of gravedigging is for more information, which yours wasn't.

So I have a veritable excuse I should hope.
For sometime since this morning at least I discovered all the Comic Genesis
Pages have been down, I wondered why as such. So do any of you know why?

Sorry to pull this up but I've not found any info anywhere and I didn't think it was worth a new thread as this was here and was kinda about the same thing anyway.

Again excuse the hijack.

P.S.
There's no offline signs or anything it just won't connect.

It's back up now, though the update queue is 6000, I hope it'll have cleared by the time I'm finished with the comic (I'd better take my time, eh?). I'll often wander by the ComicGen forums when it's down, to see if I can find a status report. All they're syaing is, they're looking into it.
