Obama's Healthcare reform has passed. That is unless the people who actually have access to the news were lying to me.

So time to praise or cower from the news.

I am in the mixed reaction camp. I admit I did not follow it too much... but my mother whom is a Registered Nurse, a person whose livelyhood can be affected by this has followed it and read up a lot about it, she was not too thrilled with it.

She is an intellegent person who knows how hospitals work, so this worries me.

But hey for the supporters, time to celebrate.

For Clarification.

It only went through the House, it still has to go through the Senate later. but still one step closer.

This is a good thing, providing the idiots didn't attach too many neutering bills to it.

If this passes, we can finally welcome America to the Developed Nation Standard of Healthcare club.

How do they do the Yea/Nay system? I just love the idea of one Republican with his hand up alongside the Democrats while all the other Republicans glare at him. Or better still, him trying to cover up his little sheet of paper while he writes 'Yea', while another Republican tries to check on him. "Stop cheating off me! You should know the answer by now."

THose votes bring up one of the more scary attributes of this term.

Democrats have majority control on both the house and have the president.

and most of the Senate. Not saying Democrats are bad but its scary when any party has essentially, the ability to do whatever the hell it wants.

I was a fan of the watchdog effect which used to almost always happen where the House and the president were at opposing viewpoints.

It filtered out the crap on both ends of the spectrum. Law too much one side? never get through the house.

law too much the other? Veto.

oh dear god I have become a pessimist.

Now you see why many Americans are quite unhappy with the current state of things.

Okay, there has got to be a third option. I'm damn sick and tired of people yelling that there's no other way than the public option or there's only single payer. Why doesn't anyone...oh right, Congress.

If it's going to be like here, where you get free healthcare on the NHS, or you can choose to go private and pay for it? By all the outrage I'm seeing, people are acting like they're all being forced not to pay for it, and get equal treatment for everyone.

Well any bill regardless that allows any person to recieve the basic or required medical care for free or at a reasonable price regardless of who you are is a good sign either way.

Funny really, as there was a recent news story that places the NHS as the worlds best medical care. America was like 4th or 7th i believe.

...your Stephen Duckett has infiltrated the Alberta public health system, and is trying to make it the same way he did in Oz.

Poor guy has become the scapegoat for the idiocy of the premier and his health minister.

And it's turning out very, VERY badly. As I understand it, what they're doing with healthcare here goes against Health Canada's guidelines.

We're going towards privatisation, and there's nothing we can do about it, except pray that the Liberal party will oust Steady Eddie, and in turn turf Liar-pert.

Then, the new guy will have one hell of a mess to clean up.

So, you americans that are concerned about your health care? I don't think you should worry too much; things will remain the same, more or less. The rich and famous will jump the queue by using their money and influence, and the rest of the poor shmucks will be left scrambling to pay for their healthcare, while waiting months to see a doctor.

I'm not cynical and jaded, no, not in the least.

This thread is like a siren call for M.M. to unleash the power of tl;dr rants. *waits*

Health care in this country is broken. Will this fix it? I hope so. It's smarter than "LOL TAX BREAKS SOLVE EVERYTHING EVER".

IMO, the opposition to a public option is driven half by paranoia and half by selfishness. Everyone fears that they will personally be inconvenienced by not being able to get unnecessarily complex and expensive care (like people who want an MRI because they hit their head on a door frame--tell them they can't have one and they'll scream about death panels and rationing care). No matter that the money spent on that procedure could be used to vaccinate hundreds of kids against a REAL threat (oh wait vaccinations are commie government Big Brother Nazi insert-scary-Glenn-Beck-buzzword-here plots to turn kids into gay autistic drones).

Talk to a doctor about how much unnecessary care they have demanded of them. I have. It's a lot.

EDIT: For the record, the lone Republican, Joseph Cao, is basically an anomaly elected from a scandal-riddled very, VERY Democratic district that hadn't elected a Republican since 1890. So basically the definition of a RINO.

You ever get the feeling that realising there's more of us than them will maybe one day lead to us taking our glorious leaders out of their lovely big parliments and seco...fir..sec...homes and just shooting them in the back of the head like dogs?

I occasonally see that day in my head-and smile. Mandelson has sucj a funny look on his face when he realises it's real....
Anyway-if it turns out like here then you'll get the best of both worlds. A good basic service and a private service for those who need fake tits. Seriously what is it with Americans and taxes? It was tax that started the Wwasr of Independance and the person who generally wins the elections is the one who promises the lowest taxes. Is it not basic economics that the money for public services doesn't come from fairies?

Yep. And they can skip out once they're better and not pay a dime, so it lands on the taxpayer.

Healthcare: You're paying for it one way or another.

To quote/paraphrase Bob Parks: "Liberals come up with programs so good, they have to force you to do them."

Couldn't be any clearer with how they threaten to SEND YOU TO JAIL FOR NOT BUYING HEALTH INSURANCE. (To quote Cortana from the first Halo game: "Left out that little detail, did he?")

As for the lone Republican/RINO from Louisiana, now they (that is, Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc.) have their "bipartisan" bill, meaning that when it fails and the shit hits the fan, the Democrats can point to the Republicans and shout, "See! See! They caused this mess too!" Mr. Parks even pointed this out months ago: The White House Wife-Beater Syndrome
QUOTE
President Obama needs this health care monstrousity to appear bipartisan so everyone can take the blame when it tanks. Knowing the president as we do, if he knew HC reform would be a success, he’d be shutting Republicans out just so Democrats could take sole credit.

Next stop: The Senate.

You linked to World Net Daily, a hive of right-wing conspiracy-crazies who still buy the 'OBAMA WASN'T BORN IN AMERICA HERPA DERP' nonsense and think that everything that Glenn Beck doesn't personally approve of is 'socialism'.

You probably should stop citing crazy people in your arguments.

No more than two links in to browsing that site and I see what you mean. At least over here the ludicrous bias is vaguely amusing.

I was gonna say for you maybe, but then I just remembered the problems over here. lol.

Maybe we should follow the methods of other countries. Like the democratic republic of Congo. It's got democratic in the name! surely they have mastered its art!!
