So, it was announced that the next games in the Pokemon series are Pokemon Black & White 2. This is apparently a sequel, and not a traditional third version of the game that we've come to expect until now. It seems Kyurem plays a major role, and there are many theories circulating around the net already. Many fans are even speculating an introduction to Pokemon fusion.
I guess all we can do is wait. Both versions are for the DS, and a US release has been confirmed (though no date yet, obviously). This post has been edited by Kyubi on Feb 26 2012, 01:09 AM |

It's officially been announced that the games are scheduled for a summer 2012 release in Japan and a fall 2012 release for both the U.S. and Europe.

Wait, what.
I'm not really surprised that they're still DS games instead of 3DS, Pokemon games traditonally come out rather late in a console's life cycle and take advantage of as much hardware as they can. But I have no idea how these sequel things are gonna work story-wise. Also, they must have been keeping this secret for a LONG time if it's slated for release only this year! I swear, Game Freak must have better secret keeping than the CIA. (which wouldn't be that hard) |

They're using numbers in the titles now? And no obligatory third version?
Game Freak, I am disappoint. |

Actually, I think this might be a better idea than the typical third version. Traditionally I think the third games have actually been losing Nintendo sales, since people are onto the pattern and hold off on the original two to wait for the inevitable third remake, or they feel their games are cheapened because a better one came along. And kids are probably gonna have a hard time trying to convince mum/dad/grandma/big brother that it's worth getting what appears to be the same game with a different monster on the front.
But with direct sequels, someone who owns White already is more likely to get White 2 if it's a direct continuation somehow. |

Personally, I've been having to beat down my inner Poke Geek since the news broke.
It's be nice if they somehow instigated a way to continue your journey from where you were in Black/White. Kinda like what they did in Mass Effect, but for bite-sized consoles. That way you wouldn't have to start all over again when the sequel came our. Or you would, but at least your old team would still be around and still listen to you. |

It would be nice if they at least made it so you can transfer your Pokedex over. The only way I could see a continuation of a previous save working would be if they made it so if you have access to 2 systems, you can transfer via Mystery Gift/trade/wireless link/etc. |

Numbered sequels, eh? Does this mean the next Pokemon game is gonna be a really iterative sequel that sticks to formula and plays exactly like the previous one with only minor superficial changes? That would be weird.

Huh, looks like they're going a lot further with this than the usual third version deal. And has global cooling kicked in?

The first trailer for the game is now up. It's pretty much all the information we have now in motion and gives a look at things like the underwater tunnels and a better look at the Unova map.
4/17 Edit: There's a new trailer for Pokemon Black 2 that features footage from the new starting town and the in-game appearance of the new rival and female trainer. 4/21 Edit: The second trailer has been released. This post has been edited by Kyubi on Apr 21 2012, 02:40 PM |

There's some new information for Pokemon B/W 2.
-Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus all have new forms, which can be seen here. -Old gym leaders from previous games, such as Giovanni, and even the rival from Red/Blue will appear in the Pokemon World Championship -N is still involved in the plot, but apparently he's disappeared somewhere and nobody knows where he went. -A new feature called PokeWood allows you to choose a scenario and create a movie based on it. One such example features a giant mecha Tyranitar. This post has been edited by Kyubi on May 13 2012, 04:13 AM |

I figured it's worth bumping this topic now that the game has be released in Japan. Here are a few things of note: -A clear version of the new map. -New Team Plasma boss named Achroma -The battle GUI has been given an aesthetic change based on your version. -If you complete the game, you are given an option to change the difficulty to being easier or harder. Now then, here are some spoilers of note:
