Title: Gents Club Outing 2011
Description: Cancelled?

Webmistress L - July 3, 2011 05:58 PM (GMT)
So I've been talking meet ups with a few friends and figured I'd see if there was any interest for one over here. I remember the thread for the 2010 meet that ended up not happening and if we did want to arrange one, we should figure things out soon.

The main point here is to ask who's interested and if so, when would suit best and where?

I know I would vote for mid August to early September because my uni starts back up on the 12th of September and I need to move flats at the start of August. As to where, I can probably find travel as long as I'm given enough notice for it.

What about everyone else?

Pixellated - July 3, 2011 06:06 PM (GMT)
Interested, but starting a job soon, unsure if I would be comfortable taking a day off so early. If it was a weekend, then yup.

HunteRS - July 3, 2011 06:08 PM (GMT)
I would be interested but circumstances may conspire.

lirlond - July 3, 2011 06:21 PM (GMT)

I am no longer interested in a meet-up.

Just because the majority of those currently showing interest are Scottish...:P

Small request - if you are interested, is it possible to say when would suit? Like which months and such. Pix has said weekends which also works.

Metallix Brother - July 3, 2011 06:39 PM (GMT)
I'd be interested in another meet-up. However, I'd need some advance notice so as to book time off from work.

lirlond - July 3, 2011 06:41 PM (GMT)
Whenever tbh, before Uni starts would be best, but even then I can work around it.

Raye - July 3, 2011 06:41 PM (GMT)
I would be inclinded to say "no" to early september simply because there is a first year anniversary being celebrated.

First year of marriage between Lothar and I. Surprisingly, we're both alive.... for now. We still have a couple months to go. I'll update if anything changes.

Though a weekened sounds reasonable. I like the weekend idea.

Eastwood - July 3, 2011 06:47 PM (GMT)
Another Gents Club Outing? (Edited the topic title)

I'm listening.

HunteRS - July 3, 2011 08:04 PM (GMT)
Well atm I'm in work but can get time off at short notice. Arse end of July is a no go-Gonna be moving.
After that unemployed so I'd be free any time-until I get a job.
Only dates totally out 10-12 SEP. Wedding to attend.

Webmistress L - July 3, 2011 08:07 PM (GMT)
People Interested So Far and When:

-Me (Mid-August to Sep 11th)
-Pix (weekends)
-HunterRS (between August and September 9th)
-lirlond (before uni starts, so prior to mid-September)
-Raye and possibly Lothar (not early September, weekends preferred)
-Metallix Brother
-Eastwood?

So based on this, Mid-late August is starting to look like the best time unless anyone has a suggestion. And probably at a weekend so it doesn't really seem to matter if it's term time for the school kids or not.

Anyone got any suggestions for where? Which theme parks or such like? I don't know who's doing deals if anyone is but I'll check around later. I'll also keep a note of those showing interest.

I seem to remember East wanting it in the Imperial War Museum in London. I've never been, but it seems interesting, and free entry. I don't think having it at a theme park ended up really being central to it last time. Sure, it was fun, but the stuff I remember was just hanging out rather than rides.

I'd HIGHLY recommend the Imperial War Museum. It's awesomely informative with tons to see. Not to mention it's in London, so no lack of places to go to for more social elements.

I'd be happy to attend, but I need to check when I'm going to be working first, I'll have to get back to you after I get back from, funnily enough, London.

I mentioned it because Retro mentioned it when we were discussing tanks. As is so often the case.

I'd be happy with anywhere, especially somewhere I could drive to.

lirlond - July 3, 2011 08:56 PM (GMT)
If this goes ahead I'm tempted to wear my kilt.

To propagate the stereotype ofc

When East and I talk, we talk of great things. No "how are you" or "how was your day?"

Such things only reduce tank discussion time.

I am full of interest, and had been pondering a similarly flavoured topic for a little while.

Also, I can bring the Justice Bear, who will no doubt also be interested even from eternal limbo, where he lives these days.

As such, I also like the sound of this Imperial War museum in London, if only because I can sanely -reach- it (Huzah, trains), and am fine with any time in the august-september range, with the exception of one weekend (I do believe August 6th, I'll have to double-check) so long as I, like so many others, have sufficient notice to book the time off work. Yes, even for a weekend, though that's probably a much simpler case than for any weekday.

Webmistress L - July 6, 2011 02:23 PM (GMT)
Updated list of people interested and when works for them (if you don't have a date specifically mentioned then I haven't written it down here, you'll need to say):

-Me (Mid-August to Sep 11th)
-Pix (weekends)
-HunterRS (between August and September 9th)
-lirlond (before uni starts, so prior to mid-September)
-Raye and possibly Lothar (not early September, weekends preferred)
-Metallix Brother
-Eastwood
-Silversword and Justice Bear of Justice-ness (Anytime in August-September barring a weekend in early August, August 6th?)
-Retro

So it appears we have everyone interested in the Imperial War Museum - or at least four who stated an interest. Unless anyone else has another suggestion then that might be what ends up passing, though if there are other things to do in London I wouldn't mind being there for a weekend.

lirlond makes a brilliant suggestion though - all the Scots must wear kilts. Though I can get out of it as kilts are generally male attire. :P

Women fought for many years for the right to vote, use birth control and work. They also fought for my right to exclusively wear jeans. I would be doing a disservice to my gender if I did not wear them. :P

Hey, I'll be 2 weeks unemployed at least by the trip-you'll be lucky I'm wearing anything on my lower half.

Metallix Brother - July 7, 2011 01:39 AM (GMT)
Any chance we could expand this to being just the Imperial War Museum? Say, Trocederos and so forth?

You just want to enter the Sega Arcade and play House of the Dead 3 for 4 hours.

....fair point.

Retrogamer! - July 7, 2011 03:36 AM (GMT)
Trocaderos is always a great laugh. HIGHLY support this.

It's full size minigun shooter needs to be played.

randomgerbil - July 7, 2011 03:56 AM (GMT)
Colour me intrested. I can do August 10th onwards, apart from the weekend begining on the 25th, and any weekend in september but the last one. This is all of course, dependent on whether or not I can afford to.

lirlond - July 7, 2011 10:18 AM (GMT)
For our scottish friends it appears flying down to London would be our best bet, it's about £40-60 to stansted from Glasgow(with ryanair unfortunately), cheaper leaving on the friday and returning the monday.

Studio Asperger - July 7, 2011 12:23 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I'd have to check my finances, but I'd be interested if it was taking place a weekend in August or something.

Pixellated - July 7, 2011 12:24 PM (GMT)
National Express coaches to London from pretty much anywhere are generally half as cheap as train tickets would be.

That would probably be the best option for the Scottish invasion. Now we just need to actually get a date set.

I'd suggest any weekend in August, except the first one because Silv mentioned a problem with that date, and because I have an exam on the week following. So if it's a weekend then to give an idea of potential dates:

August 12th-14th
August 19th-21st
August 26th-29th
September 2nd-4th

These are all Friday to Sunday I should point out, and the last one is a date prior to Raye and Lothar's celebration of having not murdered each other so they might not want that.

Yet another updated list of interested people:
-Me
-Pix
-HunterRS
-lirlond
-Raye and possibly Lothar
-Metallix Brother
-Eastwood
-Silversword and Justice Bear
-Retro
-randomgerbil
-Studio Asperger
-Jeff
-DSC
-Ember

It's in London - I live just outside London, it's at the weekend, i've never been to the IWM as far as I can remember and I has a money. I'd be silly to say no to this. :)

It will collapse in on itself under the sheer weight of disappointment when I speak.

Nah, what'll happen is DSC will speak, and the day will go along happily, but like the Silence, we'll forget all about it the moment he's out of shot.

HunteRS - July 7, 2011 07:08 PM (GMT)
Who'll speak? What are you talking about?
