Title: Steam you magnificent bastards.
Description: Steam Sales Thread

lirlond - May 16, 2011 06:24 PM (GMT)
http://store.steampowered.com/news/5468/

Daily deals. Only one game a day though. Will be haemorhaging my money if they stay this cheap.

Its Operation Flashpoint today, 3.75

Pixellated - May 16, 2011 06:31 PM (GMT)
I was wondering when something like this might come along. With all the devs that seem to be clamouring to have their special weeks (EA and Rockstar quite recently) in order to skyrocket sales, it only seemed logical to just queue them up all year round.

Jeffk38uk - May 16, 2011 07:35 PM (GMT)
Logical next step really. As for Dragon Rising, it's an alright realistic shooter, more easier to get into than Arma 2, but not as clever with it's AI.

I still need to actually play it really but no one else bought it way back then.

lirlond - May 16, 2011 08:08 PM (GMT)
I'm looking for folks to play it co-op with, if you'd be up for it.

Jeffk38uk - May 16, 2011 08:19 PM (GMT)
I would be game, wonder if there are 2 other willing participants with it tho.

LGHunter - May 18, 2011 12:15 AM (GMT)
Is there any way we could have this topic pinned? We tend to do this quite often when there's a really good sale on (summer's coming, people! And who knows, maybe a Half-Life ARG?).

Just a thought, is all. :)

And yes. Steam, you are eating up my money along with www.thinkgeek.com and my romance novel site.

Stop it. Please. *whimper*

lirlond - May 18, 2011 01:20 AM (GMT)
Majesty 2 today, it's apparantly decent, but the multiplayer is broken and it can be a little boring. So I'm skipping it.

Jeffk38uk - May 18, 2011 04:17 PM (GMT)
Last I saw, the impression I got from it was "what if you were the one in charge of a MMO town?" making quests and selling potions.

I would say pin this topic too given how much it'll update I bet.

Also midweek madness. Two games this week: Worms Reloaded and Singularity.

HunteRS - May 18, 2011 04:45 PM (GMT)
Meh-Singularity's Ok. At 6 I've seen worse. Worth a punt if you've bugger all else to play certainly.

lirlond - May 18, 2011 05:22 PM (GMT)
And today's daily is... 18 Wheels of Steel!

Not a fan of driving sim games. Maybe DSC will enjoy it.

Jeffk38uk - May 18, 2011 05:31 PM (GMT)
Looks pretty similar to the Euro Truck Simulator title which I thought was alright, then I remembered it's the same company: SCS Software.

The 18 Wheel series is pretty lengthy in the amount of titles, and are surprisingly polished. They also did the Bus Driver game which again, was alright at the time.

I may look into it as I like these kind of niche sim titles. Wish Steam can get TML Studio's World of Subways games tho.

Pixellated - May 19, 2011 06:40 PM (GMT)
Today's deal, Metal Drift for just under 3. Looks like someone took Vigilante 8, added a dash of F-Zero, and then put it in the aesthetic of Monday Night Combat.

Jeffk38uk - May 21, 2011 05:07 PM (GMT)
Tonight's special is Peggle Nights, so if you weren't already addicted to PopCap games, here's your chance

Pixellated - May 23, 2011 11:43 AM (GMT)
Cities XL is on sale for 5 for the next 5 hours. Is it a bit like SimCity, or just more of a world-building tool than a game?

Jeffk38uk - May 23, 2011 01:35 PM (GMT)
Its more simcity, a bit more control on your roads and such, but they did a stupid mmo element to their game that eventually caved in and the original developer went into administration. The game was bought up by the publisher and modified to become Cities XL 2011 which is the better option, adding more buildings, a new bus and underground rail function and retuned the game so it's singleplayer.

Looks like the one on sale is the original Cities XL version so I would say avoid it. Although tbh I'd just say buy SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition on steam, it's arguably a better game and a crap ton of mods to improve and add to the base game.

lirlond - May 23, 2011 05:12 PM (GMT)
Ubisoft week as well as Mini Ninjas for 3.40

Todays Ubisoft deal is the Prince of persia series, with the whole lot of them for 12

Pixellated - May 23, 2011 05:29 PM (GMT)
Guess we can look forward to these series/deals this week then from Ubi:

- Assassin's Creed
- Might & Magic/Dark Messiah
- Far Cry
- RUSE
- Tom Clancy stuff: Splinter Cell/Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six/HAWX
- Call of Juarez
- Beyond Good & Evil
- Trackmania (Pick this up if it goes on sale)

Jeffk38uk - May 23, 2011 05:58 PM (GMT)
I would say pick up Conviction cause I need a splinter cell co-op partner. :P

Pixellated - May 26, 2011 02:00 PM (GMT)
Today from Ubi Week, Trackmania United Forever for just a fiver. Go buy it, now. Go go go. I guarantee fun.

Daily sale is Hoard, for 3.50.

lirlond - May 26, 2011 02:28 PM (GMT)
Watch out, just a moment ago I was redirected to a World of Warcraft log in whilst trying to pay via paypal. Not being an idiot I closed the page and attempted to pay again... only to find Steam will no longer allow me because of an "error". So uh, be careful.

dragonsteincole - May 26, 2011 04:35 PM (GMT)
Trackmania can best be described as this generation's Micro Machines. Entices the casual player with it's visual style and madcap track design, and has more than enough for people (like myself) wanting to find a slightly more competitive edge to it. Highly reccomended.

It's the Super Meat Boy of racing.

Bump: Chance gone, Ubi's deal is now 75% off Far Cry games, (1.25 for #1, 2.50 for #2). Daily Deal has moved on to Evil Genius for 3.50.

randomgerbil - May 26, 2011 07:18 PM (GMT)
I'd jump at that if I didn't allready have them both.

I must have played the first one about 5 times through, and it was the game that introduced me to PC FPS. Great game.

I did the second one twice - once on insane mode. I loved the insane mode for being hard in a good way, unlike games that just crank up the damage and AI senses to superhuman level. I remember getting a mission, going to the location, scouting, going to the gun store, grabbing appropriate gear, sneaking in at the dead of night and placing remote control IEDs as distractions so I could get the hostage I was after out.
The non-regenerating health bar system was refreshing, and it was nice to have "buddies" to fight alongside.

Bad side to Far Cry 2? traveling.

Seriously good game, and worth it for 2.50. If you haven't played these games I recomend you pick them up.

Eastwood - May 26, 2011 07:21 PM (GMT)
My interest in Farcry was sunk when I found out the game wasn't about one man's quest to get back a fridge full of orange soda from some jerkass Nazis.

That's actually the over-arcing sub plot to Kenan and Kel.

That grocery store owner always looked like he's just shaved off his little 'tache before they filmed.

Fangle Spangle - May 27, 2011 04:43 PM (GMT)
A game that flew completely under my radar. this looks amazing fun!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jJrUY27O0Y

TB says its like the rainbow 6 (rogue spear he says but all the early rainbow 6 games had this) planning phase mixed with uplink. The AI is very similar to uplink but the game play is much better compared to Syndicate if anyone ever played that. turn based, gang/squad based tactical combat game. Free friend code to everyone who buys it too which is vey generous of the developer and a very good move as it ensures everyone at last has a mate to play with.

edit: just realised i put this in the wrong bit. i saw steam and went "ooo!" and realised its the daily deals thing. very sorry ><

Jeffk38uk - May 27, 2011 05:15 PM (GMT)
Today's deal from Ubisoft Week is all Brother's in Arms titles at 75% off. The bundle pack costing 6.74.

The daily deal curiously is Star Trek Online Digital Deluxe Edition for 2.37, the mmo. It got bad press at the start, but they've made a lot of changes and content, and the foundry is touted as the best thing for ppl who want to make their own stories, which fits Star Trek quite well.

Whether you'll get it depends if Cryptic will still be an entity despite their optimism for season 4 since Atari is selling them.

Pixellated - May 28, 2011 11:04 PM (GMT)
Assassin's Creed Day for Ubi (grab #2 if you haven't played it), and Samorost2 for the Daily.

dragonsteincole - May 28, 2011 11:17 PM (GMT)
He created Machinarium too, probably the only point'n'click game thats held my interest to the end.

Pixellated - May 30, 2011 12:09 AM (GMT)
To end the Ubi week, every Tom Clancy game is 66% off (Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six). Daily Deal is Nightsky; looks like Limbo but with puzzles.

Jeffk38uk - May 31, 2011 05:09 PM (GMT)
This weeks midweek madness sale is Cities XL 2011 at 75% off for the price of 7.50.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/58510/

This is better than the original Cities XL as the new developer tweaked the game so it'll actually be singleplayer, add a ton more buildings as well as bus and underground rail. That said, SC4 Deluxe is a better option even for an old game.

For today's daily sale it's Dino D-Day at 50% off for 6.99

http://store.steampowered.com/app/70000/

Retrogamer! - June 1, 2011 06:08 PM (GMT)
Today's deal is VVVVVV for 1.99.

There is no excuse to not buy this. Absolutely. None.

There are people who might use their want of the wall next to them to remain scratch-free as an excuse. Those people would be wrong.

Thread-bump for Tales of Monkey Island Complete for 8.50. Bargain.

I respectfully disagree.

I do sometimes forget that not everyone has a crippling man-crush on Dominic Armato.

Bump for the daily deal, DiRT, for 1.75. Had a look at some reviews and am about to buy this, unless anyone can tell me a reason otherwise? I'm not really up to scratch on my racers besides F-Zero and Trackmania.

Edit: Seems it isn't compatible with Windows 7. This fix might work, but I'm not really willing to half-chance it.

Bump again for everything is now 75% off on the Telltale Store for the next few of weeks.

Pixellated - June 11, 2011 06:56 PM (GMT)
Thread bump, Nimbus is today's Daily Deal. I highly, highly recommend this: fantastically presented puzzle/action game with an original mechanic.

Feldoon - June 11, 2011 07:07 PM (GMT)
If you think it's interesting, it must not be. And must therefore be shallow and yawn inducing.

Jeffk38uk - June 14, 2011 05:31 PM (GMT)
Looks like Steam have started to allow you to download free to play games now from steam itself.

List includes Champions Online, Global Agenda, Forsaken World and Spiral Knights.

I play a fair chunk of Champions Online so woot to keep that game on Steam.

Korvaz - June 14, 2011 07:39 PM (GMT)
Could have sworn world of tanks did a very early beta on there. They also encourage their users to manually add it. Wonder what happened between the beta and now?
