Title: What are you listening to?
Description: As made famous by Cliff Richard
Eastwood - November 11, 2007 09:57 PM (GMT)
Here's the rules. Because people abused it last time.
No double posting. In all honesty, have at least a three post gap, otherwise it just gets silly. So, if you don't want me to shut this one, it should go (For example) Eastwood, Lothar, Virus, Silv, Eastwood, and so on.

| I'd also suggest that you make some sort of comment. Doesn't have to be a thesis on the socio-political implications of the lyrics and the song's influence on modern society, but just say somethin, eh? Long list of 'song-artist' is boring. |
You heard him.

Hotel California ~ Alabama 3
They really are rather good, and as covers go it isn't half bad. But the original is my favourite song, ever, so it's a bit hard to measure up.
Master Shake - November 11, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
'Holiday In Cambodia' - Dead Kennedys
Ah, good old fashioned punk rock.
The Virus - November 11, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
Creep - Radiohead
In training for Rock Band. Want want want.
I'd also suggest that you make some sort of comment. Doesn't have to be a thesis on the socio-political implications of the lyrics and the song's influence on modern society, but just say somethin, eh? Long list of 'song-artist' is boring.

The Poet and The Pendulum - Nightwish
Since I was going to post a thread about Nightwish anyway I might as well put my thoughts here.
This song is the first track on Nightwish's new album with the replacement lead singer Anette Olzon instead of Tarja Turunen. Olzon is undoubtedly different from her predecessor but her voice captured my attention the moment I put the CD in the computer. I can't say I prefer one singer over the other but I'm satisfied with the band’s final choice for the new singer.
Jeffk38uk - November 11, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Serj Tankian - Feed Us
Really the whole Elect the Dead album, been on repeat for the past day or so.
HunteRS - November 11, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Erebus (Snake in the Aquillian nest) by...meself.
Yeah I really need to finish that Warhammer 40k concept album and get the vocals on.
I think this was my first one I wrote and I'm pretty proud of it.
Coming up next is Hatredcopter by Dethklok
Apparently the 26thy time I've listened to this song. That's a lie-it's well into the 40's.
kalvaza - November 11, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
"Draggin' The Line" - R.E.M.
My iPod is on random, which I don't usually do because I end up skipping a lot. I think this is a cover and it's a strange song for R.E.M. because it sounds so upbeat, probably because it's about drugs.
I feel fine!
I'm talkin' 'bout peace of mind.
I'm gonna take my time,
I'm gettin' the good sign...
Draggin' The Line.

Objection! - Gyakuten Meets Orchestra (Orchestrated soundtrack to Phoenix Wright)
I've adored the music to Phoenix Wright for a long time, and hearing it orchestrated and arranged in symphonic brilliance is downright inspiring. As well as perfoming music (Grade 8 flutest, if I may *ahem* blow my own trumpet*) I get a kick out of arranging music I like in midi form, partly to develop my sense of perfect pitch but mainly for glory and giggles. And the first midi I felt properly happy with showing to peoples was my arrangement of the 'cross examination' music from the original Phoenix Wright. It's kicking about these forums somewhere for those who like that species of kidney.
Edited for clearly being drunk at the time of writing.
Grey Wolf - November 12, 2007 07:31 AM (GMT)
Still Grey - Pendulum
A surprisingly relaxing song to listen to compared to some of the other songs on the Hold Your Colour Album.
Pixellated - November 12, 2007 02:56 PM (GMT)
I'm -still- listening to
Machinae Supremacy (pretty much everything by them, Site Releases, Albums & JnG soundtrack). They've got a new album coming out in early '08, Overworld, which is going to be awesome enough to bore a hole through a million skulls. Go buy stuff.

Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged Musical
This topic is lame, it's such a bore. I'd rather stay home and play card games more and more. If you ask me, this forums a whore, but thats nothing she was like that way before.
Silv' Edit: Everybody likes working tags.
SilverSword - November 12, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
Pop Will Eat Itself - Ich Bin Ein Auslander
Nothing like a song picked up from the middle of nowhere.
Ed Sigma - November 12, 2007 05:01 PM (GMT)
The Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash
Love the simple, acoustic guitar, laid back way of presenting the tale of the Apocalypse. Also, it made one of the best choices of intro music ever when it was used for the credits of the remake of "Dawn of the Dead".
Taneis - November 13, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
Mass Romantic - The New Pornographers
On 99.3 FM The Fox - The Fox Rocks!!!
They played the 90's the whole weekend. I'm starting to understand the feeling my parents get when they hear BTO on the oldies.
Sabre_Justice - November 13, 2007 05:19 AM (GMT)
Kickapoo
Tenacious D
Just grabbed whatever songs in my rather small music folder I liked and shoved them into a playlist for Firefox.
Grey Wolf - November 13, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
Date Line (I Am Gone) - Yellowcard
Stuck my MP3 player on random. This is the first song that came up.
Jeffk38uk - November 13, 2007 07:30 AM (GMT)
"Cole Train" - Gears of War
Stay cool baby! Oohh!! Stand Up!!! Paww down!!!
Relistening to the soundtrack since I finally completed Gears of War but on the PC version.
The Virus - November 13, 2007 11:49 AM (GMT)
Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger
Heard it on the radio, realised, hey Oasis kinda rocks, lets download some of that.
Dark Comet - November 13, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
O Green World - Gorillaz
Damon Albarn is a musical genius, no two ways around it. I want to listen to the opera he's working on based on the classic 'Journey to the West', the story that 'Monkey' adapted.
Pixellated - November 13, 2007 06:33 PM (GMT)
Television Television - OKgo
If you've never listened to OKgo past 'Here it Goes Again' (the treadmill vid), then go and borrow it/buy it/download it. Ok Go and Oh No are both brilliant albums, with incredibly catchy stuff on there.
Kitsune - November 13, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
Blaze of Life - 403
Yeah, I've really been into "melodic speed metal + the Japanese scene" thing lately, can't really explain it...
Bavarian - November 14, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
Oy. If I really really have to pin it down to one song, I take
Black - Wonderful life
My favourite song back when I was ten or twelve years old. The atmosphere of the song still reflects a part of my childhood. Somewhat melancholic, yet enjoyable. Or whatever.
HunteRS - November 14, 2007 08:15 PM (GMT)
Arnocorps-Last Action hero.
Seriously ballsy music. The manliness is over 9,000. If I could I'd make an AMV using Dawn of War and the Imperial guard to go with this.
Melchior - November 14, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
Cerberus is as Cerberus Does - FlipronNOT just another shitty myspace band, I believe they played at glastonbury (if that's your idea of non-shitty?)
Very good lyrically, a bit weird all round in a good way. Go listen.
Exu - November 14, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
The Boss theme from Streets of Rage 3.
Well, it says it's the boss theme but it was only used for Onihime & Yasha (Mona & Lisa) and Break (Axel).
I like this theme a lot, and it shows how Yuzo Koshiro was a genius with the Mega Drive's soundchip.
Jeffk38uk - November 14, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
"A Beautiful Lie" - 30 Seconds to Mars
The whole album is brill really but this song is the cherry on the delicious cake.
And this cake isnt a lie.

I love that music. Personally I prefer Streets of Rage 2's and Siva's theme but hey ho.

While we're on game music, anyone else here got a collection of USF/PSF or general chiptunes? I've got 4,398 files inside my game music directory (+36000 if you count my chiptunes); if you enjoy game music (especially Dave Wise/Grant Kirkhope), visit
Zophar's Domain for the basics (inside the Game Music archive), and get a ton of plugins for Winamp, head over to USF Central (google it), and download some soundtracks. Fantastic stuff, if you're into nostalgia in that way.
The Virus - November 15, 2007 01:21 AM (GMT)
School's Out - Alice Cooper
Likely to be on the GH III/Rock Band stuff for a while.
Well we got no class
And we got no principles
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes
Jeffk38uk - November 15, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
"Deep and Hard" - MX Griggs, Call of Duty 4 Credits
Thats the third high profile game that has gone the rap credit song route. And I hope this continues. XD
SoniCalvin - November 15, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
An OC remix of Sonic 3 & Knuckles Act 2 boss music, "Scrambled Eggman".
Give this one a listen. It is made of pure win.

First was Gears, second was?

Ysbeidiau Heilog - Super Furry Animals
Nothing like singing in Welsh for no reason whatsoever.
Grey Wolf - November 15, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)
Pick Up - Bonobo
On the SSX On Tour soundtrack. Has almost a kind of tribal feel to it.

I think it was God of War 2. I only say that cause there was a rap song added in the soundtrack for the game.

Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis and the News
A song so catchy that people don't even listen to the lyrics, but they should, because it's not just about the potential pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, but a very personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul! RRRAAAAGGHH!

Magical Sound Shower - Outrun
Heard this at VGL this year at the Royal Society Hall. Absolutly ADORE it. Curiously enough it makes excellent music to run to at the Gym. I swear if I'm ever in Simon Pegg's position at the final stretch of the marathon in Run Fat Boy Run, hearing this music played over the loudspeaker will have the same effect as him seeing his exwife and kid.

I'm really going to get the Video Games Live album that's coming out soon. Also, I envy you
A LOT for getting to go to VGL. Seriously.
A lot.
