Title: GW Price Rise 2010
Description: Or "The 35 Point Transport for £20"

Eastwood - May 10, 2010 02:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, June 1st is the next rise of price rises! Because they haven't alienated enough people from buying from them direct.

I'll pick out some highlights...
Army Books are now £17.50, up from £15. I mean, £15 was pushing it for me was it was, but now? That's comically overpriced.

Space Marine Tactical Squads are £22.50. I mean, fucking hell, a 12.5% increase in a year. Good thing I don't play Beakies, because that's fucking obscene.

Ork Battlewagons are £37.50, which is pretty nuts. But not as batshit insane as...

Ork Trukks, which can be wrecked by light arms and cost just 35 points, are going to £20. That'd probably go down worse if it wasn't for the fact Ork players are used to just building something better out of cheap toys and sheet styrene.

And for me, the funniest?
Orks in Mega Armour are now £12 each. I can remember when Ghaz cost that, and he's a damned sight closer to what a Mega-Armoured ork should be.

The thing is, as an ork player, there's little (Practically nothing) I can't build myself from sheet styrene, wire, plastic rod, green stuff, and it comes to it, an ork boyz boxed set (A few of which I still have). There's very little point in buying from GW direct, because I can make anything they sell for a lot less, and if they do sell something I want, I'll just buy from Wayland Games and save 20% on the RRP.

Wow, didn't know GW prices were pricey to begin with.

Wow, didn't know GW prices were pricey to begin with.

You... didn't?

It's been fact for years, dude.

They went past "pricey" about five years ago. Last year, they hit "outrageous". Now they're onto "obscene".

Given I don't collect, look at or keep an eye on Games Workshop, it's not that shocking is it?

All I can do is facepalm and once more close the lid on my Guard army. Sorry guys, but it'll be another while before you see the light of a gaming board.

Games Workshop: We love your money more than you do!

Books-feh I just fire up 'share. I get them before they hit the stores usually.
True piracy might be causing price rises but so is GW's refusal to change it's casting process/materials.
Models-I can proxy. Most of the people I know are cool with it.
Frankly this latest rise is about as surprising as the sun rising in the morning.

Oh and for a company that 'makes the best model soldiers in the world' you STILL can't craft females for crap.

Honestly? I think most of their humans aren't the best. They're alright, but smaller manufacturers do so much better for far more reasonable prices. The heroic scale does throw out some bloody freakish models, like the Catachans. I'd love to see "true scale" Marines and Guardsmen, because fan projects have produced them and they're amazing.

Either they should up their game, or slice the prices. They won't do either, of course, but I can dream.

Oh well, at least my orks won't suffer too much.

I feel I'm becoming more of a fluff hound than anything. The RPG's (WFRP and Dark Heresy Respectively) give me a lot of what I need.
To be frak if they don't crash and burn soon then I can only assume the Emperor is ensuring they stay afloat to give instructions to mankind for the dark times ahead.

Same here with Fluff-hound: I still play the game (most of the day every Saturday, if I can), but my overall hobby purchases have plummeted ever since about the time Bitz Order was removed (BTW: Games Workshop, still waiting for that "Back and better than ever" Bitz Order we were promised). I mean, I have enough points that I'll always be able to play small games in 40K and at least a Tournament-scale game in WHFB, but my purchases in the last year I think are a trio of Mega Nobz when it comes to models... and then everything else books like the Liber Chaotica.

Is it a bad sign that Dark Eldar are even receiving the price update treatment? I mean, normally they've been untouched by these things, but now they're seemingly being hit as hard as everyone else.
