Required Reading, for guests to read

Hello there!

If you're a curious newcomer, and maybe looking to join, then I suggest reading all of this to ensure that it covers the kind of RP that you are looking for.


This is what you need to know about Expelled from Reality:

- It's a fantasy game - expect magic (eg plots, special character abilities) and unusual appearances (eg made-up species).
- It's an advanced game - we require detail, patience, and plenty of devotion. Also expect to write a detailed application for each character.
- It's a Mature game - graphical scenes like mating and violence, as well as bad language, are acceptable, but are avoidable.
- It's (primarily) a wolf game.
- The two secondary species are Dragons and Giant Eagles.
- You may, however, play any predatorial species you like, so long as it is not insect. Most birds, some mythological and invented species included. All humanoids, even half-humans, like centaurs or mermaids, are currently disallowed.
- You join as an OoC account, like your nickname, word or phrase you like. Don't join as your character name, we have [ dohtml ] tables to distinguish characters' posts.


More interesting, important, and updated, points:
- We are, actually, active, with many loyal members. It's nice to have a place that is loved, isn't it? However, we have never been, and doubtless will never be, one of those million-post-a-day sites. We're laid-back and trundle along steadily, and have only had one short hiatus in our two years.
- We currently have two packs open: Jinnabully, the loose-ends pack for most everyone; and Sycthorn, the malevolent and strict pack of the site.
- We also have a horse herd. This will be the only chance members get to play prey animals as characters for a while. If you're looking for a good, literate horse RPG, like many do, then I'd suggest inquiring about it. You may be searching no more.
- *NEW* Orcas are now playable, and we have a pod. Should we get enough interest, extra pods may be made.
- Since our current Eagles have clutched, more Giant Eagles are open for audition! There won't be any more available until next winter, however, when they breed again - but because there will be more Eagles, doubtless there will be far more chicks.
- Dragons are not currently available. They will be coming when the plot allows. *NEW* For the impatient amongst you, this is actually fairly soon.
- We encourage character plots, but there is usually a big overall plot either in motion, discussion or preparation. It is extremely easy to become involved with plots [minor or major], or, if you wish, keep out of them altogether; it's up to you.
- There is one admin, and she is a control freak. There are plenty of helpers around the site, but she has complete say. No need to worry about conflict between the administration system.

A quick note: As we've had one person make this mistake, I'd like to deter any more: if you join, all your characters and original species have to come from outside Lybrachien; do not pretend that they were born or evolved in Lybrachien etc. They will have to have entered it, and for the first time, unless you are returning with a character you previously had within.


We are a friendly bunch, so long as you give a good first impression -- and if you're a respectable RPer, who says you won't? We do welcome new blood into our midst, expecially if you can promise to be active.

Like most RPG's, Expelled from Reality is simply the board name for a fictional land. In our case, Lybrachien.

I expect that at other RPs you may have played at, the land in which the game is situated is merely a name for you to refer by. Lybrachien is not. Lybrachien is the 'home' of a small deity, or god, or power, known otherwise as The Reality.

DragonHybrid is the OoC admin. If she tells you to do something, you do it.

The Reality is the IC admin. If it tells your character to do something (via PM to your account) your character does it. You don't disobey the ruling power.

More may be added as questions are asked or I find more relevant things to add. Hopefully, with the information above you'll know whether you want to join or not. If you've read this far without skimming it and are still interested, well done.

I was thinking about joining but i'm not sure if my character is to out there. Its a kind of wolf species I made up. So everything strange usually has a reason behind it. Would green and black fur, two elemental abilities, and metal accessories be allowed?

Sure, made-up species are fine (: I have a character with gold jewellery myself, so the metal is fine, and we've got plenty of odd colourings xD I'd just have to ask you to clarify the elemental powers - how strong are they, what exactly do the powers allow the wolf to do, etc.

well one is over arsenic the element itself, so its is in her blood and saliva causing those who get either it ingested or in wounds to have a poisonous affect depending how much was taken in.
The other is over metal. Calling it at will and forming it to whatever. Thus explaining how the metal came to be on her.

Th arsenic sounds fine, as does the metal - but because we don't want there to be /huge/ strength gaps between characters, maybe there could be restrictions/limitations to the use of her powers? You may already have some for her, I wouldn't know (: I hope you understand.

I'm curious to know if I could make a gravity
elemental wolf. I'm fairly certain I'd be streching
rules and the fairness of the play a bit, but I'll go
ahead and elaborate on the future wolf's powers.

He'd be able to manipulate the gravity around
smaller objects like flowers, and rocks. If this
would be allowed, I'd like for him to be enabled
to lift the gravity around his own weight, thus
allowing him to float (however high you'd determine).

He'd have the ability to change the direction of
things in motion. For example, if it was raining,
he could alter the gravity around himself, and
change the direction of the rain. Any weather,
like hail, snow or wind, would also be
subject to his abilities.

I was thinking that, maybe, if you won't
allow some or all of these powers now
that you could maybe allow them as he
gains the respect of others, or I grow
as a loyal member of the site.

I like the sound of the powers slowly developing as he/you gain respect; the Reality could easily suppress the ability and gradually release the restrictions out of fun. It's in it for the entertainment, you see, for a large part, and it would like to see how the wolf would react to suddenly being weaker. Of course, as the wolf bored it, or it lost interest, the powers would return.

I have nothing against the powers themselves, they don't sound over the top (: We've got winged wolves and other characters with qualities that make them more powerful, so as long as you don't go over the top, and it doesn't sound as though you will, the powers are fine! :D

First off, exemplary place you've got here. =D I particularly love that you allow a more... mature environment. One doesn't see that as often as one would like. (And you have an absolutely charming layout.)

I've got an idea for a character, but it's still a rather... rough sketch, if you will.

Also, I'm a bit rusty on my wolf role playing, but I think, with a little patience on everyone else's part, I could get back into it. xD

And, I'm rather worried about how active I could be right now, so really, I'm just sort of getting information. This way, though, I can work on my character, and when I'm more sure of my activity, I will probably join. ^^

So, from what I've seen on this topic so far, a character with minor powers is alright?
What about a wolf with wings and an ability involving fire? (Oh, God, a wolf-dragon cross-breed. xD) Er... yes... I shall have to elaborate a bit, won't I? xD
Well, again, it's a rather rough sketch, but the ability would be like, the wolf could transform (for lack of a better word at 1:00 AM) parts of its body into fire?
Probably wouldn't have the ability to breath fire, as that's a bit cliche, but I'm sort of growing to the transformation idea.

Well, I think that's about all I have to say right now.
I do overuse smilies in OoC talk, and I do like to curse in an environment where it is allowed to do so. And I like being able to give "free range" to my skills in the more graphic scenes of role play.

Thank you for the compliments (: I work hard on EfR, and pride myself in always improving it, and it's nice to get positive feedback! Considering the 'mature' rating, we've had violence and gore, but no sexual scenes played out - but they've happened, of course, since we've got puppies. Aaaand we've got gays, so yeah, there's enough innuendo for anyone xD

Minor powers are allowed in ordinary characters, yes - but saying that, only regular and trusted members are allowed 'non-ordinary' characters, so anyone new thinking of joining don't get any ideas xD We currently have two active wolves with wings - both altered by humans, though completely different circumstances/experiments. Since this is a minority, I'd say that one more wouldn't hurt, but be aware that you would have to give a reason for wings - but since this is fantasy, you can have fun with that reason.

The fire sounds alright also, but since it's only a rough idea, it would be appreciated if you could keep us updated on your ideas and details. I could ask a few questions if it helps you to get or eliminate ideas. But again - we'd need a reason for it. So you know, if you choose to make the character's species the reason - elemental wolf, or whatever - you'd have to write something up about it, however briefly, so people can read up on them, and maybe even make one of their own. </bad sentence> My poor wording aside, I'm glad you're interested xD

Also, when one first joins, is one able to create one's character in either of the packs? Because depending on your answer to this, I'll edit the character's history a little bit.

Okay, how about something on this idea as the explanation of the wings/possibly the fire?:

In a place somewhere far away from these packs, there is a wizard who breeds wolves. Some of the wolves, he raises as pets, others as "warriors" to be used in wars and as sick amusement to some. (Something on the idea of magical-steriod-filled dog fighting.) When toying with a new idea, the wizard casts a spell on one particular pup that is generally used to render dragons flightless. (Or something of that nature; a spell involving the flight of some sort of creature/machine) Finding the pup non-respondent to the spell, he tries another; one that gives a creature the temporary ability to breathe fire. (Or, again, a variation of that.) Again finding that the pup won't respond to his spell, and figuring that it is entirely spell-resistant (as some of the wolves he raises end up being; these particular wolves the spell-enhanced wolves consider worthless and inferior, and call "infispells" (infidel/inferior + spell)) the wizard tosses the pup out -- somewhere in the wilderness.

The pup wanders about for some time (not sure how long, yet -- probably long enough for the pup to be considered an "adult"). During its wanderings, the wolf experiences the painful growth of appendages on its back, which eventually become full-sized wings. (When I first actually join, they could still be underdeveloped? Stage of growth is your choice. ;D)

During the wolf's wandering, it travels through a land that has been experiencing drought. While traveling through here, a massive wildfire begins (probably by some human), spreading through the forest that the wolf happens to be in at the time (what a coincidence, eh? xD). Becoming surrounded, the wolf sees no other escape except for through the fire, and consequently crosses through the fire. Upon breaking through the fire (that, by this time, had spread over a massive distance that the wolf had to travel through), the wolf finds that it didn't get any wounds, burns, et cetera (let alone death). Thus, the wolf begins to suspect that it has some sort of fire ability, along with whatever those appendages are on its back (it has no memory of the spells placed on it, as they were done only a couple weeks after its birth. That said, it didn't get "thrown out" until it was old enough to keep itself alive for at least a little while). Despite all suspicions, the wolf can't figure out how to tap into this ability to use it further. (Again something to be discovered at a later date in my relationship with these wonderful forums. ;D)



And thus is what I have so far. ^^
However, I'm a bit iffy on the fire part of the story; I like the traveling through fire part, but I don't know if I want to go with both spells being placed on it at birth, or only wings then and the fire spell while its traveling.
Whatever I go with, I think that I shall use a short-ish version of the history with character creation, but write a full-fledged story about it later. =o

Permission to "copyright" my idea? =o (So it doesn't get used by someone else sometime between now and character creation?)

I don't think you need to ask a copyright, to be honest. People around here are friendly and unlikely to steal anything - though I probably can't vouch for the guests.

But if you really want to, we need a name to put to you rather than 'guest'. :3
