I think there are accents. I just got finished rereading the harper hall trilogy and at one point in... I think it was Dragondrums, Piemur is in Nabol Hold as a spy, dressed as a herder's boy, and he uses an accent, which he also used earlier in the book at a mine when the Oldtimers visited, so as not to get caught.

More than likely there are accents on Pern, though perhaps not such noteable differences between them in most cases that they bear mentioning. *shrug*

I would imagine as every where there are thick accents especially the more backwoods you get ^^

Yes, Pern does have accents. Read the Harper Hall Trilogy, as well as The Skies of Pern, and both books mention using one's accent to determine where the person is from. It's just like on Earth. Here in America, we can usually determine what state a person is from just from the way they talk. Further, people in a single state can usually determine what area of the state, again just from the way the other person talks. Different areas start to develop their own way of talking after even so little a period of time as 10 years. Amazing thing, the human voice XD

This might be a random question, but it's been a while since I read any of the Pern books, and I really can't remember; what do dragons call their riders when they are addressing them?

Do they call them by their names? or do they just call them "My rider" or something like that...?

Just curious, it's not a big deal, but it did stump me for a bit when I was RPing earlier...Thanks!:D

Most of the time, they don't even use any form of name. When they do address their rider by name, it's either a nickname or the dragonrider's honorific. For example, my green Zeryalth addresses her rider as "Kava" or "K'vreil".

They refer to them like people do.

Nothing drives me insane quite like people who turn their dragons into retards who always refer to their riders as "Mine".

"Mine said this! Mine did that!"

Retarded.

Awesome. I was pretty sure it wasn't anything fancy, and it would sound weird to always have them call their rider "mine" or "my rider".....well that clears that up thanks! super_happy93453.gif

Okay, so it's kind of random, but...is there make-up on Pern? Also - pardon, if it seems stupid - but will there still be a hatching on the 12th of december, what with the whole flight drama?

As far as I'm aware, make-up does exist but it's considered frivolous and you're probably a giant ho if you use it more than twice a year.

I'm pretty sure I remember Kylara fussed about her looks and I think make-up might have been mentioned, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, it would be primitive stuff at best, the kind of make-up that in today's day and age would make you look fairly cheap.

And here I'm agreeing with Teki. Make-up is archaic on Pern (think of medieval-type make-up). As such, it's not going to be used on an everyday basis. Jaxom used a type of creamy foundation to cover up the Threadscore on his cheek for a while. Luckily it blended in enough with his natural skin color that no one really noticed it.

As I am back, and completely run down by weyrling lessons, am I able to kill Cerilia and re-make her, Tiaos her canine, and Lillsyth, except older, and out of weyrling lessons?

So...two questions. Firstly, are all servants in Pern drudges, or do they have proper paid servants as well. This would help me greatly with my character.

Also - and this may seem a little stupid - but am I able to apply for gold candidacy. I realise my char is too young, and not an actual gold candidate, and I don't have many posts, but...yeah. Anyway, thanks.
