Greetings, Evergen Newbie! This is a tutorial specifically designed to welcome you to Evergen and to help you
get started, since sometimes it can be a little scary coming into a place as big
as this, and with so many forums and threads!
Well, have no fear!

I, the friendly Tutorial Dragon, Evergen's official mascot Tooth, am here to help you!
Just follow my instructions in order and this should all make sense.

Step 1The first step at Evergen is, boring as it may seem, to read the rules.

As much as it may seem like you can skim them, you really do need to read it all, as most of it is very important, and some are even bannable offenses, which we don’t particularly like to act on!

So, without further ado, here are the
RULES!When you’re done with that, you might want to glance over this thread, about what you can and can’t do here on Evergen, and what we mean when we say we’re ‘semi-canon.’ This is optional, but recommended.
CAN I OR CAN’T I?And just two more quick things before we’re done with this boring step. First of all, Evergen is a Lit/Adv roleplay (which stands for Literate/Advanced.) If you think you’ve got that down, then just skip this, but if you’re not sure, here is a page about what we mean by that, and it even includes the Five Holy Commandments of Literacy!
FIVE HOLY COMMANDMENTSAnd finally, your almighty reference list if you need to find our official position or rules on anything, the
RULES, GUIDELINES AND HELP QUICKLIST!
OPTIONAL: At this point, it might be nice to make an introduction in the CHATTERBOX and start making some friends!
Step 2Alright! Now on to the fun stuff. The first thing to do at Evergen is to create a character! There are a couple of directions you can go with this, but they all begin basically the same.

First, visit the rules about
CREATING CHARACTERS. But don’t go leaping ahead! Allow me to guide you through it!
I like to keep this open in another window, just for reference. Now, in
this forum, press the

button to create a new topic.
The first thing to decide is what kind of character you’re creating. You can create four different types. A
Rider, a
Candidate, a
Crafter or Weyr Resident (nonRider) and a
Holder. The benefits of a Rider character are that you don’t have to do Weyrling Training or wait for a Hatching, plus you get to choose your dragon color!

However, you can’t create a bronze, Gold, mutant or noncanon dragon this way, you can only Impress them. The benefits of a Candidate character are, it’s easier to get integrated with the other members, there’s more to do, you get to have the excitement of participating in a Hatching, and you could get a really special dragon!

You can also be a Wher candidate. Crafters and other weyrfolk can live in the Weyr and yet not have a dragon or wher, They can still hang out with riders, go to Gathers, attend events, etc. and maybe they can make a chance Impression on the sands, without being an official candidate! And of course, Holdfolk live at Carcara, Evergen’s own seaside Hold!

Once you’ve decided, title it with your character’s name, your character’s gender, and your character’s status, just like this: NAME : STATUS : GENDER

Need help with names? Check out our
NAME HELP thread!
If you’re having trouble creating a character, try and think of something unique, or some difficulty that your character can overcome – say, a blind character, or a character who’s been shuffled from home to home before finally being thrown at the Weyr because they’re no good, etc. Just be creative!

Remember that character creation page I had you open in a separate window? Well, pull that up again and find the form for creation (it’s in a nice dark blue box.) Copy and paste that into your new thread and fill it out appropriately. Here is an example of a good character profile, if you’d like a reference:
LAASYAYou aren’t required to have pictures, but a lot of people like to have drawings, photos of models they use to represent their characters, or pixel dolls.
When you’re all finished, Go ahead and click the male or female icon at the bottom of the post, just above the buttons, and then create your Thread! Hopefully within a few hours an admin or mod will have approved it and stuck it into it’s proper place.

Remember, if you create a Rider character, you have to create a Dragon character Thread as well! I’m not going to go through that, just going to point you in the
RIGHT DIRECTION.

Yay! Done with Step 2!
Step 3You’re just about done now! Now you just need to roleplay. Once your character profile is approved, you can get started! Here are some suggestions of ways to get involved.
- In the CHATTERBOX, post a thread asking if anyone wants to RP! There are usually a bunch of people with bored characters who would –love- to raid the Kitchens with you, or go Herdbeast-tipping. You can also ‘network’ like this in the Cbox, located on every page at the bottom of the website.

- Find an open thread – everything at LAKE MARANA is usually open to joiners, and people are always friendly at the KITCHENS. Candidate will want to introduce themselves at the CANIDATE’S BARRACKS.

- And remember! Not everyone is an ‘initiator’! If you want to make friends and have fun here, you should try and be one – go up and say hello!

Well, guys, I think it’s time for me to say goodbye.

But never fear! I’m always there for you to add emotion to your posts, and you can talk to ANY of the
ADMINS OR MODS if you have any questions! Tally-ho!
