Old Gil'ead
Gil'ead serves two purposes for the empire. the first is a fishing and trapping center where hunters can replenish supplies and sell their pelts and meat before returning to the wild. The second is as a garrison and training ground for the king's army. Gil'ead was chosen for this purpouse becasue it is close to the forest Du Weldenvarden, the home of the kings enemies the elves, who live amoung the trees.

Old Utgard
Utgard was one of the last standing posts of the Dragon riders. During the dragon rider's glory it was a post only they could reach which they used to watch over the land. After Vrael was wonded by Galbatorix in battle, he fled here. It stands as a reminder of the dragonriders and their glory, and perhaps one day will thrive once more.

Old The Spine
The Spine is a wild untamed range of mountains that runs down most of the Empire. It has only one major pass, along the Torark River, which serves to isolate the coast. Most people in the empire fear the Spine and the danger it represents, especialy since the king lost nearly half his army in it during his campaign against the dragon riders.

Old The Haderac Desert
The empire effectively ends at the Haderac Desert which fills the heart fo Alagaesia. without the Dragon Riders it is simply too difficult to maintain a government over that vast tract of desolate earth. In fact, the desert is one of the few thing sthat prevents the king from expanding the empire to include all of eastern Alagaesia The Haderac Desert is also the dragons ancetral land.
