Echo City: 2012...
The epicenter of perhaps the largest worldwide phenomena to occur in the modern age and where the veil between the life that humanity always knew, and the legends that they forgot about long ago, is beginning to waver.
Suddenly the world of technology and the world of magic are beginning to merge and those who do remember everything may not have the happiest opinions on the development.
Can the new ties that bind the two very different realms heal the wounds of the past... or will the intentions of less than noble parties only make everything more difficult?

"Little sparrow, little sparrow Precious fragile little thing Little sparrow, little sparrow Flies so high and feels no pain." Love, love is a verb About me
I know you’re all asking, who is that stunning specimen behind this mask... well you can call me Brett. I’ve been searching for twenty-one years for a place like this and thank heavens for my friend Shy who had this link from a friend of her own, or I’d still be wandering. If I seem a little lost its just because the USA Central area is having technical difficulties, but you can still reach me through the human_hubris@hotmail.com (e-mail and MSN).
Love is a doing word The character basics
Original name: Gaea Current name/Nickname/Alias(es): n/a Race: Dragon Age: 927 Birthdate: Midwinter Relationship Status: Unmated Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Employment Status: Guardian or she thinks that she is.
Gentle impulsion The outside
Hair: Honey-blonde. Eyes: Large, and dark brown. Height/Weight: 5’3 and 124 lbs. Distinct Extras: Physical Description: Gaea’s human form is that of an unassuming young woman, who stands at a rather diminutive height of five feet and three inches. In fact, Gaea is a rather small and slim woman, who is small even when next to her dainty aunt, and is a veritable pixie in comparison to her father, Shi. This has never been a concern for Gaea, as being small has its advantages, such as feeling rather sheltered when seeking out a hug from her father. As if to further the image of the small and sweet woman, her honey-blonde hair falls in silky tresses around her shoulders, thick and usually worn loose. She often ties it back, though still only done so loosely. Set under the gleaming mane of hair, is an evenly-set face. Not the most ethereal and beautiful face, but one that holds a rare beauty in its simple conception. Fair skin is stretched taut over a face that owns a lovely bone-structure with high-cheekbones and a wide forehead. In the middle of the fair face rests a pair of rich, luscious brown eyes that are usually shown to express some form of curiosity or excitement. Beneath that are set a strong nose, and full lips, completing the lovely face like a satin ribbon completes a present. Her form itself is congruent with the slightness of her stature. Her bone-structure is small and relatively fragile- at least in comparison to her draconic form. Her figure is slim, and neat, and willowy. Usually Gaea chooses to adorn her human form with light-weight dresses and flowers, in the fashion of one who never or seldom ventures into a realm where fashion matters. Her slender legs and feet are left bare and exposed to the light and the earth, two things which make the young Dragon very happy, indeed.
In Gaea’s native draconic form, she looks utterly different than the pale waif who roams the Whispering Mountains. The woman’s dragon shape has a serpentine feel to it, as her tail is nearly the same length as the rest of her body. From muzzle to haunches, the size of the dragoness is twelve feet long. This bit of her build is a bit more stolid than her human form. Despite the lissomness of her frame, Gaea packs on a considerable bulk to her frame. She is heavy, designed less for flight and more for living on the ground. Naturally, she still has wings and can fly, but the design of her form is perfect for trolling through the forest. Her head is long and angular, her maws perfect for reaching and snatching at things, such as hunting on the ground. Curling back from behind the base of skull, are two long horns, stretching back perpendicularly before curling under slightly towards the very end of their tips. Gaea’s prehensile paws were not designed for handling things, but rather for gripping unstable surfaces and running fast, as her streamlined bulk also supports. Her hind feet are designed for sitting and resting, though it is awkward for her to rest any weight on the front unless she is moving or perched somewhere precariously. Her tail spans ten feet on its own, nearly doubling the length of the Dragoness from tail to tip, resulting in a gangling creature, with a long tail that is often curled around herself. The colour of her hide is a deep mahogany brown, that have the barest hints of an olive green that is only ever visible when direct sunlight falls on her scales. Swirls and designs of a lighter burnt sienna colour begin at the pinions of her wings and spreading forward across the wings, and down her forelegs, hind legs, and tail.
(Inspiration Note: This was just my inspiration for Gaea’s draconic form. This is not the spitting image of her, nor is this my artwork. All credit belongs to Bakhtiozin of DeviantArt.)
Those two forms are Gaea’s primary forms, but she has the typical draconic ability to take whatever form she wishes, or even to simply modify her form. Gaea herself has taken a special interest in this ability of hers, and often tries various and sundry forms, though it leaves her tired later. As a result, her many forms will not be listed here.

Inherent ability/powers:
- Shapeshifting: Gaea has the ability to seemingly melt like butter into whichever shape she next desires. Within that shape, she maintains her powers and strength. Because of her constant practice of holding her shapes, Gaea can sustain a particular shape longer than her father or aunt might be able to.
- Earth Manipulation: Because of her ties to the earth, Gaea has the ability to control the earthen objects around her. Anything made of dirt, or stone, or anything that comes from the ground is within her ability to control. She can whip the dirt up into a frenzy, or move rocks and stones around. These have the ability to blind her attackers, crush them, or shield her. Gaea hasn't had much need to use this ability in any sort of defence of herself, however she has practiced her skills. Her favourite little quirk involving this, is that when she listens, minerals and gemstones light up. This she has used excessively, as she thinks it's very pretty.
Personality Description:
On the surface, Gaea is probably exactly what one would never expect a Dragoness to be. She's gentle, and playful and far more curious than the proverbial kitten. There's nothing that the creature enjoys more than simply being out and about in nature, and she is usually found roaming the Whisper Mountains in a solitary fashion, wondering and marveling over each new bit of nature. Because of her small stature, Gaea doesn't cut an imposing figure, and to be honest that's alright with her. Gaea does nothing to dispel the notion that she is anything other than harmless. She spends her time romping about with the Beastlings, often even matching their other shapes; she divides her time between this and learning what the Witches will teach her that her family doesn't seem to be interested in expressing. On the surface, the young adult dragoness seems to be a peaceful and happy individual. That is, if one excludes her curiosity. She seems to be unable to suppress her curiosity that is so insatiable that she'll soak up any bit of knowledge about the other side or the past that she can find.
At heart, however, Gaea is her father's daughter. Lurking under the surface of all the laughter, smiles, and innocence is the inner ferocity of a dragon waiting to be unleashed. Until reccently, Gaea has had little reason to express the temper that she comes by rather honestly. It is there, and the more she feels that her family is being threatened, be assured that the more Gaea's slowly building ire will continue to rise. For, unlike Shi, Gaea's temper is not one that explodes and fades without rhyme or reason. Like the slow and steady earth with which she is aligned, Gaea's temper builds and compresses slowly over time, and once it is unleashed, it will take just as long to reign it all in. Those who would oppose Shi and Aeree had best tiptoe around the youngest of the Dragon clan that dwells in the Whisper Mountain. She might be young, small, and inexperienced, but all of that will amount to nothing the day that Gaea's eyes are opened to the horrors of the past that might soon be mirrored in her future.
Because Gaea has a few cards of her own. She knows more than she realises or lets on. She's beginning to suspect that the veil is going to fail, that the time for humans to reunite with those they betrayed long ago. She senses that Aeree might be in danger, and she fears the ever-more volatile moods of her father. What others might not know, is that Gaea will do whatever it takes to keep her small family together. She lost her mother oh-so long ago, and she will not lose Shi and Aeree, too.
Teadrop on the fire The influences
Family: Shi (Father) Aeree (Aunt)
History:
Gaea cannot remember her earliest years. This is much of a relief to her poor father, but a constant frustration to his curious daughter. Gaea was very young when the Purge was ending and the dragons were preparing to retreat to a place of safety. She does not remember the death of her mother, though she somehow survived the attack that left the female dead. She doesn't remember her father's unrestrained grief, or how he sealed the gates between humanity and the dragons. In fact, she has a hard time remembering why it is that her father hates humankind so very much, for the loss of her mother is a distant one, as she has no memories of her. Instead, Gaea's memories begin just a few scant years after all of the atrocities had ended.
Gaea's first actual memory involves Shi (for she does not call him father), and trying out her wings for the first time. The girl grew up in a happy environment- or at least, she was happy. Shi was always there, and as far as she was concerned, Shi was her world. Aeree became the feminine influence on the young girl's life, as they were a tight-knit family, high in their safe den in the Whisper Mountains. There she learned about shape-shifting, and how to use her connection with the earth to protect herself. For Shi was very insistant on her learning how to be safe. Gaea often felt smothered by the concern of her father, but she did enjoy learning about her full potential. She grew to love flying over the mountain, as well as running across it. When Gaea was a few centuries old, she began to take a fascination with the other inhabitants of Luna.
The first creature she met and befriended was a unicorn named Arundel. The two girls shared a sweet disposition, and a shortage of companionship from their own species. This resulted in a deep friendship between them, and soon the little unicorn was spending time near the mountain- one of a few creatures who dared to do so. Along with this fascination, came that of the witch coven of Luna. From them she learned about the Purge, and the history of the dragons that Shi seemed so keen on omitting. Gaea was an attentive student, and was soon fond of the coven, and began to spend more time there herself. As Gaea grew up, her father began to teach her more about the role of Guardian that the dragons held, and the purpose and use of the Dragon Gates.
However, even with this knowledge, Gaea has not ventured into the human realms. Her curiosity is such that she desires to explore this new world, but her father's wrath and disapproval of such a thing has stayed her hand thus far. Who knows, however, when Gaea will cut the apron strings, and risk her father's wrath in order to cross into the human lands.
Fearless on my breath The other odds and bods
Roleplay Sample: | QUOTE | A/N: This is from another forum, where I have a young Witch (who doesn't know what she is) who has the gift of Psychometry. All she knows, is that when she touches things, she starts to see things and feel things that other people have seen and felt. I thought it was rather suiting to use here as a sample. ^^
Blood dripped off the counters, torsos and other limbs scattered across the room. Her breath tumbled from her lips in pale white clouds, vanishing as they crawled and twisted through the air. Lucy lifted her hands, sticky with the cloyingly red trademark of blood. At her feet, lay a beautiful young Asian woman, hacked and decimated, her mouth forever locked open in the midst of a scream. Marshall stepped over the corpse, a silver tray held in his hands. Lucy couldn't bring herself to look at the tray; the tears coursing down Marshall's cheeks was more than enough to tell her what he was offering her to eat, what her blood-stained hands were reaching for. There was a clatter at the doorway, and Rei's body collapsed there, Eisuke's spirit rising from the fallen body, screaming at Marshall. Lucy tried to stop him, but no words came to the mouth that was filled with human flesh. Instead, she watched the spirit-oni tear one of her best friends to pieces. A whimpering from the corner drew her attention, Damien, trying to keep away from all of the open blood, and the bodies, and the table of sharp knives that stood between him and the door. Henrick- suddenly in the room, noticed the same time that his sister did. He tried to move the table, but knocked a knife over onto Damien, cutting the older boy. Black blood spurted from the cut, lunging for Henrick. Lucy couldn't throw herself in the way, couldn't apply pressure to the bleeding wound on Damien, couldn't help Eisuke as he faded away forever. It was all....lost.....and then a form filled the doorway. Lucy could finally- only- scream as Dorian Denixost made his way towards her.
Luciana Bennet sat bolt upright in her bed, sweat dripping from her body, mixing with the tears on her face. She was trying to stifle the sound of her sobs, but knew that Sierra would wake up regardless, and she didn't want to do that to her roommate. Instead, she shoved back the covers, swung her legs over the side, and stood up. wearing the same shorts and t-shirts she had worn during her encounter with the Vampire. There were still two small pinprick scars from the attack, and Luciana rubbed at them now, as though she was afraid they would pop open at the mere thought of her attacker. Clearly sleep was going to be eluding her tonight, and after the dream she'd just had- the remnants of which still left her shaking- she wasn't so certain that she wanted to close her eyes. Curling her bare toes into the carpet, Luciana watched her roommate's peaceful sleep. She'd envy the girl, if she didn't already know about her past. She supposed she should be lucky that she hadn't run across her corpse too.
As if that made some decision in her mind, Lucy stood, and tiptoed to the door, slowly easing her way out of it. With her power being what it was, dreams were not all that uncommon, and she curled aruond herself as she walked, trying to judge how much worse this dream had been than others. Of course, there was the glaringly obvious difference- normally she dreamed about strangers, whereas this dream had hit on every single person closest to her in the world. Her steps down that dorm's hallway were unsteady, though silent. She was walked aimlessly, with no goal in mind, except how to keep herself moving and awake. How to fight the shock that such dreams could easily invoke in her, leaving her chilled and frightened for the rest of the night, utterly alone. No, that was something that she wanted to avoid, and could easily do so if she kept her mind off of things. Lucy moved like a silent ghost through the school, her face bone white, and her arms clenched tightly against herself, as though she wanted to hold herself to together.
She was beginning to wonder if what she did was such a good thing. So many people were afraid of their talents, wanted to be normal, would give anything to be able to do the things that normal people seemed to be able to do. Lucy had always happily counted herself among the rare few who was happy to be the way that she was, and she had even once told Damien, that it had made her who she was, and she liked who she was. But did she really? Did she really like the anxious busy-body who wanted to know everyone's secrets simply for the sake of knowing? Somehow, the guilt had overwhelmed her when she had discovered Eisuke's past. She knew that the guilt was the reason behind her awful dream, and she hated herself for it. Those were people's private griefs, and they were private for a reason.
Tonight, Lucy touched nothing on her walk. She kept her hands firmly wrapped in her t-shirt, keeping the cloth between her skin and whatever doorknobs, etc. that she had to touch. Lucy hated doing this. She hated that she had invaded people's lives against their will. Perhaps her Grandmother had been wrong. The French countryside was the best place for her. Imagine the trouble she could have caused in New York. Feeling entirely pitiful and self-loathing, Lucy reached the lounge, a place where she could at least watch television without bothering anyone. Her hand, still wrapped in her t-shirt, came to rest on the knob, turning it and stepping through. Her tired eyes caught a dim shape, and she turned back around without thinking. She didn't want to bother anyone. Yet, she realized that the person in the chair was Eisuke, someone she cared deeply about. She had a good idea what was keeping him awake, and her own pity-party faded abruptly.
He had far more reason to be awake, to be haunted by dreams. Of course, she felt guilty because she knew, but at the same time, maybe that was actually for the best. Maybe Eisuke needed someone he hadn't had to tell. Yes, that might be what he needed. But....she wanted to make sure that he wanted or needed that tonight. She'd already made too many mistakes when it came to the enigmatic oni to add another one to her impressive list tonight. "Eisuke? Are you....alright?" |
