The most important thing to know is this: we're reasonable admins and we expect you to act like reasonable people. Eddie says "strict but fair," and I think that's probably right. *grin*
With that, here are some rules for ya.
1. Don't be stupid. This includes demanding things, being generally rude (which includes being sexist, racist, homophobic, etc., as well as just generally being a wanker - unless you're doing it In Character and it's your character's personality to be that way), playing the "mommy said no so let's go ask dad" game with the admins (we talk, kids, we'll find out), arguing with admins (because we always win), godmoding other players, entering topics where you might not be welcome, having huge signature images, and generally anything else that comes under the heading of not being a reasonable person.
If you've got questions, from whether you can be a veela to whether you are permitted to enter a topic, ASK!
2. Don't say "that's so gay." It makes me crazy.
3. Unless you are playing a Canon character or have a really good reason for being related to any Canon characters, please try to avoid names from the books. If you do want to be related to a Canon character, please get admin approval first.
4. You can have more than one character, up to 4. You must have at least 50 posts on each character you play before you can make a new one. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Keep your characters active; we'll delete inactive ones every six months or so (or whenever we feel like it).
5. You must ask before deciding your character is a Veela, Animagus or Metamorphmagus, werewolf, vampire, royalty, psychic, or anything else extra special. We're usually okay with it, if there's a good reason for your character to be that and it's well-thought-out. Wanting to be a unique flower of specialness is not a good reason. Also, please don't base your characters on real people. Be creative!
6. Apparition and Disapparition are out of bounds in Hogwarts Grounds. But this is Durmstrang, so go for it, if you're of age (17).
7. Characters are not allowed to die unless you have discussed it with the admins. And even then you should have a good reason. Being bored with them isn't a good reason. You need to know and love your character before you can kill them. This hasn't been much of an issue lately, but if it starts to be, we'll institute minimum-post or time-on-board rules. Please don't make me do this.
8. We like good grammar and spelling. If English isn't your first language, you've got an excuse; otherwise, I suggest having
dictionary.com linked in your favorites.
9 There is no rule number 9. But you should know that the secret word is dumbledore. Pm Arya with this.
10. With regard to especially graphic posts, whether it's sex or violence, we try to encourage a PG-13/R rating or less. What does this mean? Well, your character can have sex or rip someone's still-beating heart out of their chest, but it needs to be in a passworded forum if described in full. Otherwise, please leave it implied and don't go into gratuitous detail. If you want access to a passworded forum, either ask the moderator of that forum or ask an admin. We're pretty cool about it. Oh, and Dumbledore is not the real secret word, the real secret word is: carrot. Please PM Arya.
11. There is an addition to rule #10. Your character must be 17 or older to participate in a passworded thread. 17 is when witches and wizards come of age. Therefore, that is our age of consent, and I might get a bit cranky if this rule is not obeyed cos this should not be a smut board.
12. Classes. Professors: At least 1 a month to be considered active. Students: You must attend at least two a month or I WILL suspend you.
Canon Characters1. Try to stay in character if you can; this is our own board and our characters are gonna change and develop based on who's here to play with and what happens, so I'm not going to be really strict about this. A better way of putting it is, if you do something that JKR would consider out of character, at least have a good explanation for why you're doing it.
2. Stay active. Okay, again, this is Durmstrang and not Hogwarts and the canon characters are not the centerpiece of our board. But since you've chosen to be one, you need to stay active.
