Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recently read this in the papers:
A Dad and his two kids were playing in the backyard. The dad happened to have a weather testing balloon for some kind of research, so he pumped it up, and let it go up- Supposedly he thought that one of his kids had gotten into a pocket or compartment of the balloon, so now his kid was floating thousands of feet in the air... A helicopter came to help, and there was a huge drama behind this, but when they got to the balloon, there was no kid... He was found playing the garage...

If thats wrong, please make corrections, but what do you guys think of that? I think that it shows how quick people are to assume the worst- I understand it was his kid, and he was very concerned... But if he had thought to remain calm and look around first, he would have found him, eh?

The kid's brother adamantly replied that he had seen his brother inside the balloon. Live footage showed that something had fallen from the balloon itself, and that had people scared that it was the kid. As to the story, it turned out that he was hiding in the attic (not playing in the garage) because he had accidentally let the balloon go and was afraid that he was going to get in trouble lol.

As to your contention that people often expect the worst, well, I'd have to concur. Often times, though, it is actually a good idea to expect the worst, or not to expect anything at all. That way if something bad happens you won't be disappointed. I'd have to say, though, that always expecting the worst makes life a little depressing lol.

ballon hoax

Here's a follow up story, apparently it was hoax and the boy's mother admitted to it. Sounds like dad might still be hanging on to the story. If it turns out to be a hoax i say charge them. They tied up 911 and even got the national guard out for this, all to make themselves more marketable for a reality tv deal.
