Did you know? Before the birth of Perseus, an oracle prophesied that Acrisius would be killed by his grandson, specifically the son of his daughter Danaë. Despite all the precautions he took to forestall the prophecy, it was fulfilled in the end when Perseus accidentally struck him on the head with a discus.

Did you know? Acrisius was killed in Larissa. He had fled there to avoid meeting Perseus, but Perseus just happened to come along while he was there. rolleyes.gif

Did you know?

Larissa is the capital and biggest city of the Thessaly region of Greece and capital of the Larissa regional unit. The city is said in Greek mythology to have been founded by Acrisius, who was killed accidentally by his grandson, Perseus. There lived Peleus, the hero beloved by the gods, and his son Achilles; however, the city is not mentioned by Homer, unless it should be identified with Argissa of the Iliad.

I have just read about Perseus in the glossary at the end of Chapter 15, “Myth, legend and folklore”, under the section THE HUMAN ACHIEVEMENT in Volume 2, “The human world”, of the Reader’s Digest Library of Modern Knowledge. Did you know? He married the Ethiopian princess Andromeda.
