I´m not sure if someone else read my posts besides Trynia, but Forever is infected with a Trojan. Just think you should do something, like replacing the links related to the site when possible. And, of course, contacting Adimra if you´re able to reach her.

In any hypothesis DON`T OPEN the link to Till Death do You Part!!! Ever!!! This is not a prank or a silly joke, it´s really serious.

You´re welcome. cheers.gif That was the least I could do, after all you´ve helped me with pics and hints, while I never knew how to help.

Now seriously, I was pretty worried that nobody else had read my warnings. unsure.gif and didn´t know where to post it, so everybody could see. I think that someone took advantage that the site hasn´t been updated in ages, and planted that trap, though can´t understand the reason for such... wickedness. angry.gif Luckily it´s a poorly done virus - at least it´s what my bro says, he said he never saw anything like that before.

Now, girls, shouldn´t we have an Adm room, too? A place where we could ask tech problems with the forum itself, (like the eternal Edit button malfunction), or to post this kind of warning? The only techie problem room we have here is related to artistic issues.

Thanks for the warning. I may not post much but I *do* read a lot. I don't frequent Adimra's site but the warning is always good to know about.

Isn't there already a "techie" forum here that questions could be answered? I could be wrong...coffee just isn't kicking the cobwebs this morning. 6.gif

I was wondering a thing...

Looks like that Adimra finally realized about the Trojan thing, since she´s apparently sending her whole stuff for Strawberrykisses to post at her site. So, how about to replace the links of the fics related to Adimras´ for the ones at Midnight Rendezvous? That would be safer.

I, and several others, have been to Adimra's site with no problems. I clicked through the entire site (except the porn and spam links in her messageboard - that's a great way to get viruses, by the way) and scanned all of the files. My virus software - the latest update, and required by our university for all computers connected to the network - found nothing. I also opened and looked at the source code on the suspected pages - since Adimra's site is in basic HTML, it is easy to spot JavaScript, .exe files, and other types of infection. There is none. There used to be auto-script in the headers and footers as inserted by free webspace ads in the fiction - it is not there anymore. The notation tags are still there, but there is no code between them.

Also, LadyLark has her site on the same host as Adimra and has had no problems with her site. Lark's site is just as old and not-updated, and hasn't been removed despite being a free account, while Adimra's is a paid account. The ToS for host states that it will not remove accounts for inactivity.

I don't think Adimra gave anyone permission to mine her site or is sending all of the fics to anyone else; I was surprised that she had LadyLark's "Remembrance", for example, because Lark is still active, still updating her fics (including that one) and as far as I knew, gave very few sites permission to host her work. Lark had not given permission for her fiction to be used by Strawberrykisses, and after she e-mailed a few of the other authors who are still active, she found out that at least one other author (RM, AKA Father McRoury) had not given permission to Strawberrykisses, either. http://leilia.livejournal.com/208644.html

I don't have anything against Strawberrykisses wanting to have her own B/V site, or even wanting to keep some of the well-loved fiction from disappearing (though many, like Lisalu, are also archived on other current sites and archives, such as The Dragonball Asylum), but I am not convinced there is a virus on Adimra's site, or that Adimra's site is the only place to find those fics.

Really, if the Salon Library wants to update their links at all, we should first find out if the authors have their own websites or if they have an archive they prefer. I know that some of these authors are out of the fandom and some are also out of contact now - but it's also possible to track down a copy of most of these on active sites and ask the webmasters of those sites as a last resort. (The Asylum, for example, has been open since August 1999. There are other old sites still active; I'm just too lazy to look them all up right now.)

Oh geez... I didn't realize this was going on. I had gotten emails from her asking for permission to host stories and she wanted me to email her the files to put up on her page.

I feel rather silly about this and I had assumed she'd asked everyone else's permission. :sigh:

I appreciate everyone looking into this. I'd hate to be one of the people who wasn't asked for my stories to be posted!

We have had discussions here at the Salon before regarding posting stories by vanished authors. There was kind of a consensus at the time, and I think SK's site might fit into it. (You might or might not agree.)

The general thought was, if you made a real attempt to contact the author and couldn't, it was possibly acceptable to post the story. This of course, provided you give full credit, as well as a posted willingness to promptly pull the story if the author does appear.

I completely understand her motives - I want to weep over all the great stories that were lost forever with the demise of the Yaoi Hotel. At this point, I think SK has made the changes and corrections to follow this.

Maybe we should have another general discussion (on another thread, not this one) regarding how authors and artists feel about this now. Maybe opinion has changed.

Oh - and I wanted to add, that I consider a reasonable search to be hunting for them on multiple sites, as well as googling them and emailing every address you can find. If you find a forum they frequent, post there as well stating you are looking for them. A single email is not sufficient for me personally to consider it a thorough search.

I'd like to second Pixelgoddess's comment here. Some people are still around, even if they're not active in fandom. Lady Lark informed me tonight that she just heard back from Lisalu. She just e-mailed her LotR name instead of her DBZ name.

But yeah. I'm an oldbie from the days of e-mail (and Usenet) fandoms, so looking for alternate e-mail addresses is usually the first thing I try when someone vanishes. I know I've only got about sixteen thousand addys that don't work and that I don't have access to anymore. dry.gif

You're kidding.... ! And there I was thinking something may have happened to her. I know it might be sad of me to go on ultra fan mode, but did she happen to say anything about her works and the possibility of her either finishing the Red Dragon Tetralogy or ever incursioning back into the fandom?

Gosh I am probably only the 18 millionth person to ask, but I can't help it. I think she just might have become tired of the whole DBZ scene and decided to drop her story because she couldn't be bothered anymore. That and also Adimra dissapeared, so where are all these amazing authors like her and Toshiba going to post anyway. I know... their own websites or even the very well known FF.net or MM.org, but then again, they probably just can't be bothered to do so. For all we know she decided she was tired of the tremendous praise she got day in day out. I can see her inbox, bursting with love letters and so on.

Still.. sighs, she is alive.

Looks like that many people have gotten sick of DBZ fandom (sigh). Sholio, for example _now she only writes Stargate fics. And long time ago Gwendy also dropped her BV fandom to write Harry Potters.
