Paul had heard from other angel's that they were all going to find a couple quick and make them fall in love... He just figured the couple would somehow find him. However, he soon found out that wasn't the case. And anyway, how are you supposed to know that they're dating or in love or whatever? Was there like some sort of sign? Or was there a master list or something going on? It was easier said than done, finding a good couple to set up. Hell, Paul was having a hard time finding a couple to begin with.

So, in his search, he decided that he would just observe for a while. He was at a loss at where these people hung out. Where do all the couples go, he wondered. He had wandered the campus but seemed to find no gathering of couples, so he simply went where everyone needed to go eventually:

    The cafeteria.

Everyone needs to eat, right? Anyway, Paul had wanted something to drink for a while. There weren't many people there, seeing as it still was a bit early, so Paul took up one of the empty tables facing the doors of the cafeteria. He watched as people came in and out, alone and in groups, but found no couples. Well, no obvious couples, at the very least. Weren't these human teenagers? Aren't they all dating someone? That's how they made it seem, anyway. Paul took a sip of his coffee and continued to scan the people for couples.

"It's not personal." said Jules with a frown. "I wish you wouldn't take it that way." The lunch lady looked like she was about to bite off the blonde boy's pretty little head. "It's just that I don't understand why they'd call them hot dogs." said Jules with a shrug. "I mean, I see the hot part, but you say that they don't have dogs in them. Why on earth would you call them hot dogs if they weren't made of dog?" He shook his head. "I just find it it a little suspicious." The lunch lady made some sort of growling noise. At this point Jules decided it was a good time to move down the line. He grabbed a little bit of everything until his plate was full. He then looked over the cafeteria.

Of course it was packed. There were all sorts of students there, even a teacher grading papers in the corner. More than anything Jules wished it was clear to him which of these people were meant to fall in love. Really, how many were going to find there soul mates at this school? Were there enough potential couples so that all the angels could graduate with flying colors? Sadly, Jules doubted it. Which was why he knew he should get a movie on it. He should keep a competitive spirt and make a match before everybody was taken by other angels. But as he stood there, looking over the room no inspiration hit him. He had no divine feeling, nothing that would make him think that this would be the day he would complete his mission.

But, Jules, being the positive person he was, didn't let this get him down. Instead he let a wide grin come across his face when he saw his good friend, possibly best friend Paul sitting at a table. Quickly Jules made his way over and sat down. "Am I the only one who thinks it only makes sense that man's best friend would be in hot dogs? I mean, why on earth would they call them that if they didn't have dogs?" He said, still grinning at Paul.

Paul's eyes snapped to probably his closest friend... that he can remember. He smiled his goofy at him and listened. Jules had always wondered about things that nobody else even thought of. Honestly, what were hot dogs, even? He looked down at Jules' plate and saw some... weird looking thing. In a bun. A weird bun, at that. Was that the hot dog? It very well may be a hot dog, but there were tons of other things on his plate. "Well hello to you too," Paul retorted with ease. He put down his cup and leaned back in his chair. "To be honest, I dunno what a hot dog is, care to enlighten me?"

His eyes looked past Jules and went back to scanning the cafeteria. It had filled in quite considerably. But, how do you know if two people need help getting together? God, it was all so confusing. "So, hot dogs aside, have you found a couple yet?" Paul frowned slightly, but quickly affixed his usual smile on. "Because I don't have a clue where to start, even." Not pausing, he gestured a table not to far away. "Like how do you tell if those two are dating, want to date, are just friends, or - wouldn't this suck? - related." He rolled his eyes.

Paul yanked some food off of Jules' plate and stuck it in his mouth. He swallowed it really quickly and kept talking. "I mean... Wait, shit, what do I mean? I mean... I think... Oh, I got it! If I knew it was going to be this hard, I would have signed up for something else." He nodded and stole some more food from Jules. He nodded and chewed for a few moments before swallowing.

Now that was why these two were such good friends. They just understood each other. Jules was in the same place. He hadn't really chosen to be a love angel as much as he stumbled into it. But it wasn't like he could go back and change his mind. Plus a big upside to being a love angel was getting to actually interact with people. You even got to be a person practically. It was a bit like cheating death, getting a bit of a second chance. Even if you were just an angel here for a bit, it still meant that you got sometime on earth, sometime with people again which was all Jules could ask for.

"That's the problem." said Jules, bitting his lip. "I have no real idea what a hot dog is. Apparently it's pork related." He made a face. "Disgusting." He commented before taking a bite. He chewed it quickly and had barely swallowed it before hearing the line about related. He almost choked. "Yeah, that would suck." he said quietly, looking away from the table, not caring to relieve his incident with the very friendly brother and sister. Angels would be laughing about that one for ages. But, it could be very hard. Especially if you didn't really have a good grasp on human language. Even though, apparently most angels thought the two looked a lot alike. But Jules forced his mind away from the subject of relatives.

"I guess I'm figuring that some research is good before I start trying to put people together." Jules got an almost evil glint in his eyes. "I'm going to ask a girl out for and up close and personal research." Jules grinned. He knew the dangers of falling in love with people, but he also knew that most people didn't fall in love on their first date and he could really start to understand this whole thing better if he was more involved. As Jules looked at it, he may not have meant to be a love angel. But that was what he was and he would have to learn to make the best of it.

And, yet again, Paul was reminded why he and Jules had become such quick friends. They could bounce off of each other, and neither minded when the other ramble on incessantly about nothing... at all. Like Paul tended to do. A lot. It was a problem, yes. He would be the first to admit that. Lots of talk with little sense was just... not a good combination. Also, it tended to make people supremely ticked off at him. Authoritative figures hated him for it as well. He just couldn't stop talking, he had to tell people what he thought, and that's exactly what he did. He talked and talked and just didn't shut up.

Paul made a face at the meat-like substance. "I wouldn't eat that, Jules," he said with a grave face before cracking up. "Would it kill me to be serious for a moment?" he asked rhetorically. Brushing a hand through his hair, he settled into his chair. "That's illegal or something here," he said, shrugging. "I think. I don't know. Sounds like something one of those crazy-ass teachers would have told us." He shrugged again. "Whatever. When we're talking about love, nothing can get in the way - not even the law." Paul snickered again to himself.

He out-right laughed at Jules. "Research? Honestly? Like we have time for that." He rolled his eyes. Angels were getting competitive. Paul wouldn't even be THINKING about the assignment if the others weren't on the hunt for any couple, any one at all. But, that last comment made Paul completely lose it. "You're going to ask out a human?" he asked, still laughing. "That's a brilliant idea." He rolled his eyes. "You have good luck with that. Oh, and I'll try and keep Locksley from killing you when she finds out."

"All this talk of killing." said Jules, shaking his head. "You have to remember there's not much killing that can happen." He leaned in closer. "We're sort of already dead." Yes, Jules had to remember to be cautious about how loudly he talked about things like this. The cafeteria was full, but that didn't mean that an overly curious freshman might not be listening and overhear something. No, Jules tried to talk in ways that might not give away exactly what he and his friend were doing here. He also made sure that his voice was quiet enough so that it wouldn't carry. But that it wasn't so quiet that it was draw attention.

He shrugged. "I guess I'm not that worried about it." He took another bite of the hot dog. It sure didn't taste like dog, although Jules had no experience with what dog tasted like. "I just figure they're teenagers. They fall in love all the time." Jules knew it wasn't as simple as this. He also knew that your match was suppose to be more than hooking two lustful teens up. No, it was about love, true love. It was about helping these people find true love. But it made him feel better to think about it in such simple terms.

Jules liked to deal with stress or worries by not thinking about them. It worked very well most of the time. Others times though worries crept in. He'd have nightmares of failing and going to hell. But he was determined, and good hearted. He knew that somehow he'd be able to work something out. That was the eternal optimistic soul that lived in Jules, always telling him everything would be okay. Jules liked to believe that. That voice was always kind and encouraging compared to the other voices, like that of doubt. The voice of doubt haunted Jules more than he liked.

"But back to me asking my girl. Who should I ask?" Jules's head spun around as he looked around the cafeteria. "What about her?" he said, after taking a bite of food. His words were barely clear as he chewed and used his fork to point out a pretty brown headed girl.

Paul laughed and rolled his eyes. "Of course. Okay, theoretically killing you." He smirked at his friend. It just wasn't done - falling in love. At least, not for angels. For humans, yes. Angels don't fall in love. Actually, Paul couldn't see how they could. They were way to busy making others fall in love, where would they find the time to do it for themselves? During down time? He doubted it. Anyway, he figured that they had their share of love on Earth, so why have it again in Purgatory? And, well, there was always heaven, wasn't there?

"Yeah I guess. But, you know, I'm not seeing much love here," he replied, nodding in the general direction of the rest of the cafeteria. Still no obvious couples. Well, did there need to be some sort of introduction ceremony then they all come parading in and the angels take their pick? That would be great. "You know, who am I to stop you?" Paul started. "But you have to tell me what you learn from this 'experience'," he finished seriously. "'Cause I'm as lost as you are."

Paul tilted his head. "You think she would say yes to you?" he asked. He laughed. "You know I'm only kidding. Go for it." He nodded in the girl's direction. "Although you may just want to introduce yourself first. I don't think they just go up to random strangers and ask if they want to go out." He shrugged. "I could be completely wrong."
