Revolution Pern
Background
What would happen if thread stopped falling for so long a period of time that dragons and humans both thought it gone from Pern's skies forever?

What would happen to the thousands of riders scattered across the land, those used to the holders supporting them and used to throwing their lives to the wind in defense of their homeland?

What if, as a whole, the weyrs decided to turn their efforts at protection into a more realistic approach, using the dragons as a means of policing the local holds, keeping away bandits and wild whers, even against other holds looking to take their goods, and required the holds to swear fealty to their own queens?

Well, if this had happened then perhaps Pern would become a more feudal society, and that is where this version of events takes place.

More than two hundred turns have passed since Thread seemed to vanish from the sky, and the world was taken over by the dragonriders, holds in service to the mighty weyrs. Golds ruled their home territories with iron claws, sending out their lesser ranks to bring back tithes of food and slaves, children taken from each beholden hold to become candidates as well as slaves, a rare few in service to the dragons, the greater majority given to riders to be used however they wished. These queens were termed Pern's Hundred Queens, for their numbers held at a surprisingly large number, scattered across the continents. They, of course, in turn served the greater Province Queens, lesser in number but more powerful, and these Golds ruled over several weyrs at a time, but the final and greatest power were the Four... Four mighty Queens from the four greatest weyrs to the north, south, east and west... Jethen, Naysis, Tru'than, and Lyris. The Queens of these weyrs were the strongest, the fiercest, and each bore specially made armor befitting their rank.

But it is a historical truth that power corrupts, and eventually Pern is darkened by the shadows of slavery and hate... Nearly one hundred Turns pass, but eventually Holders begin to Rise up, using the bred-to-be larger and more aggressive whers to take out dragons, refusing to allow their children to be taken as candidates, and even training assassins to take out the Clutching females... Weyr by weyr, area by area, and territory by territory the dragonriders fail and fall... Mighty Lyris Weyr separates itself, closing itself off in the west, but others fight and fall or win by the strength of numbers and training.... It is into this world of devastation, hatred and fear that the worst possible thing happens...

Thread returns...

Decimating the world, both weyr and hold, Thread brings a reign of terror back, but even that cannot stop the fighting, and the world runs with blood and ichor and rings with the sound of violence... Lyris Weyr has recently lost their senior Queen as well as a third of her just-laid clutch, leaving the position of senior weyrwoman to a young woman and her even younger, untried gold, as well as seven eggs without a mother... War is rising on the horizon, Threadfall threatens everyday, a clutch lays with few candidates, and tensions are roaring, and it is up to you to decide what the outcome will be.
