This is the general FAQ sheet. If you have a question you think we ought to answer here, please send a personal message to any admin, and we will make sure to answer – just let us know you’d like it to be posted here too.

What year is this RPG set in?
It's set in 2012 (soon 2013).

Is it possible to play a character from a book or movie here?
No, this board is for original characters only. Your character may be inspired by some from a book or movie, but it must be original and fit our setting.

Can I play a historical figure on this board then?
Yes, you may do that - but try to be as historical accurate as you can be. We don't require a lot of research, but if you want to portray a historical figure, at least try to get some historical facts right.

Can I make any type of vampire I want here?
No, you can't. We have our own breed of vampires here, inspired by different things, but they are our own. Make sure you read the Vampire Myths thread to find out what our vampires are like.

For how long has humans known that vampires are for real?
At the time the plot on CotN started, which was March 2009, the secret had been out for about one month - meaning humans have known since late January 2009 that vampires are real. The board follows real time in day to day posting. There was a time-jump on July 24th, 2010, where we jumped to the year 2012... meaning that in the CotN world, vampires have been public for about 4 years now.

Does everyone know about vampires?
Yes, everyone has known for some time - but how they react to it and how much they care and think about it is up to you.

What is the age limit for vampires?
2500 for the eldest, meaning the earliest a vampire can have been born as a human, was 491 BC. Look at the Vampire Ages thread to learn more about the vampire age groups on CotN.

Can my vampire eat and drink anything else than blood?
No, vampires can only drink blood. All kinds of drinks and food that mortals eat, will be rejected by the vampire's body.

Will my human be stronger/faster/more beautiful if they drink vampire blood?
Vampire blood does one thing to humans only, and that's helping regenerate their cells. They can heal wounds, and like that make the human last longer in a fight. But the human will not be stronger/faster than before, unless they're turned entirely into a vampire.

What if a vampire tries to kill my human?
That isn't possible, unless you have given them permission to kill your character. There can maybe be a fight going on, or someone can show up to save your human. Vampires can feed on people and hurt them though, even if they are unwilling, but never kill without permission.

How young can my character be?
We ask that you do not make characters that are younger than 16 years old. Both in looks and in age, which also means no child-looking vampires.

Can my character die and then come back from the dead?
Vampires already died once, when they were turned. If they die again, they are dead, for good. As are humans, unless turned into vampires.

Can I be a werewolf here?
Some vampires may shapeshift to wolves, but it's not the same as being a werewolf. You can't be an actual werewolf on this board.

Can I play any other race that isn’t listed here?
No, the only races to be played here are humans and vampires.

Is the seasons here like they are in real life?
Yes, since this is a board taking place in present time, we try to follow the seasons as they are in real life. So when it's cold and winter on the northern hemisphere in real life, it is too on the board. And when it's summer in real life, so is it here.

I'd like for my character to have a child - can vampires have babies here?
If you want your character to have a child, do not create a vampire. Vampires can't produce children here.

Will you alter the rules so I can make my character special?
We will not do that. If any admin tells you something can’t happen with your character, please respect that. Any character can be special though, in their own way, it’s all a matter of perspective. Remember though that limitations are needed, or else things would run wild. Please respect the admins final say.

I'd like to make a witch character!
You can do that, if it's realistic. There are modern witches, but they do not have supernatural powers. They work with the nature and the energies in it, but are not like witches in any tv-series.
