I'm not sure what I should do next. Cayden hates pull-ups, so should I just put him in underwear during the day? I ask him all the time if he needs to go potty and he says no. He does always go potty before bathtime but that's about it. I don't want him to be going to kindergarten in diapers.
LOL, Lori, I promise he won't diapers to kindergarten!
What worked for both of my kids was skipping pull-ups entirely. Honestly, they are just pull on diapers! (That said, we did use them at night time for the first couple of weeks) Jacob and Sarah both did best by putting them into undies and using the timer for the first day or so -- honestly it was more so that I remembered to ask them if they needed to go. The one thing I would really recommend is not even trying until Cayden says he's interested, I promise you he will get there. Both of our kids let us know when they were ready and did great from there on out!
I had a tough time with Katie and see wasn't totally trained until almost 4. Jenny is showing some of the sign now and is really close, but not there yet. She will tell us right after she goes and tells us to change her. She will even go potty and ask to sit on the potty, but doesn't do anything once on the potty. She will then go run to the potty every 5 minutes (which I don't mind), but she will only actually do anything in the potty if she happens to be on it when she needs to go. If not it's all over the floor.
I am open to any advice too because, unfotuantely I need to get her trained before the end of August, or she won't go to preschool. (They won't take her unless she is trained.)

Hannah and Tarah were both trained by 2. Hannah I had to work with and it was more like I was trained. Tarah pretty much trained herself by watching her big sister and Eric was just ready! I had tried to "train" Eric earlier in the year, mainly due to pressure from others saying "he still is not potty trained??" (I know, what do they know but people have a way of "seeping" into my sub-concious with their little inuendos) and it was a nightmare! Then when he turned three I told him he could pick out big boy pants because it was time to say bye bye to diapers. He put them on and has done great so far. If I could just get him to not help with the clean up - UGH!!!!
Well today I put "big boy" underwear on him. For about 45 minutes he was dry and then took him to the potty. Well, not 30 minutes later he had already wet his undies and didn't seem to care. From what I heard, most of the time they don't like this feeling....Cayden could care less.
So anyway, I will be trying nevertheless, and see if he's really ready. What happens when we go somewhere and he leaks everywhere? Guess we just bring changes of clothes.
Lori! Jenny cared when she wet her undies, but she just knew I would dry her off and put dry undies on. I have to take Katie back and forth to vbs next week, so I am going to wait until the following week to try again with Jenny. I have thought about maybe putting a pullup over her undies if we go somewhere, that way she still feels it, but it doesn't leak.
I am STILL trying to potty train. Cayden has now been in pull-ups for about a month. He usually poops in the potty without me ever telling him b/c he knows he gets marshmellows afterwards. If I make him tee-tee in the potty he will go but he just won't go on his own. Thankfully I have noticed he will usually stay dry all morning long which is nice and there have been a few nights he has woken up dry. Yay!
Anyway, it's a slow and long process but I'm hoping he will be out of diapers by the time I'm changing them again on a newborn.
That is a an improvement, it probably won't be long before he is fully trained.
Jenny is still no where close. I put her and Danielle in undies the other weekend and she didn't go on the potty and would just pee in her pants and not care if she did. Danielle would stay dryer and actually went a tiny bit in the potty.

What worked for you and your children? What age were they finally trained?
Actually, I was working at a daycare when my girls were trained.
Shelby wasn't technically allowed in the 3 year old class unless she was trained which I thought was stupid and I fought it. And won. Her teacher trained her in pull-ups and we did panties in the evening.
Emilie was trained at a different daycare where they didn't allow pull-ups which actually was wonderful for her.
Both girls trained during the summertime, so all I bought for them that summer were summerdresses. They didn't even own a pair of shorts. No shortalls - nothing. Only dresses because this way, all they h ad to worry about was getting thier panties down.
The key really is waiting until they are ready. If you try to force it, you'll be frustrated and so will they. My girls both trained after they turned three. And it really didn't take too long for them either.
