Captain Sim’s Boeing 707

Before the 747 arrived, and others such as the A330’s, A340’s, 777’s and many more of the modern international passenger aircraft we know today, there was a different class of aircraft. Mostly controlled by Boeing and Douglas in the 1950’s the competition in the aviation industry wasn’t as tight as it is today. But we also saw a lot of innovation during that time period, and saw Boeing release the 707. Built to compete with the Douglas DC-8, this aircraft took to the skies after just 2 years and $16 million USD.

Many airliners caught onto the 707, and immediately orders for the new 707 skyrocketed. This aircraft was very revolutionary in its time, and set the ground for the development of the 747 by Boeing. Over several decades this legendary aircraft has transported many people, including the President of the United States. This aircraft has been a legendary performer and has now been modelled in Microsoft Games Flight Simulator 2004 by the experts from Captain Sim.

Captain Sim, who distinguished themselves by earlier releases of the Mig 21 and the F-104, also has a talent for commercial aircraft. The write-up and screenshots on this product are extremely tempting. A lot of the talk about this aircraft is very convincing, and the shots speak for themselves in regards to this aircraft. However there is some stuff which we don’t see from a picture.

The installation is very smooth, and so is purchasing the aircraft. You will not experience any difficulties getting this aircraft into your FS. As you load up the sim and choose your aircraft you will see that the 707 comes with a ton of free liveries, and has downloadable liveries available for free on the internet. These liveries come easy to install, uninstall, and modify using the Texture Config Editor (TCE). This handy little utility quickly, but efficiently installs your new textures with an ease of mind.

As you select the aircraft in the main menu don’t be taken back by what you see. The initial appearance isn’t perfect, but that soon changes as you load up the simulator. Inside the simulator you will be amazed by the detail, the precision, and the quality of the exterior model. The modelling on these aircraft is perfect, and I can not find any reason to complain about it. Included to add to the amazing value in this package are the B707-320B, B707-320ADV, B707-300 Cargo, VC-137C Air Force One, E-3A variants. The interior features a virtual cockpit but no virtual cabin. However the interior doesn’t lack quality and is one of the best out there. With smooth gauges, clear displays, and an accurate portrayal of the cockpit of a Boeing 707. The VC is semi-clickable but not full clickable. Great work was done by Captain Sim on the 3D interior of the Boeing 707.

What ever isn’t clickable in the VC is made up for in the 2D cockpit. The panle is fully functional and gives you control over everything you need, plus a little bit extra. You can access wing views, navigation panels, engine, controls………the works all with this smooth, interactive, and nothing less than amazing panel. One of the nicest features of this aircraft is its cabin callouts. Through the panel you have access to over 18 different callouts from the flight attendant’s “welcome aboard” to the pilots “please fasten your seatbelts” it’s all been included. This is another prime example of how immersive Captain Sim’s Boeing 707 really is.

The performance on your systems which as I always stress is a premium quality in an aircraft which needs to be good is first class in this aircraft. You don’t watch a slideshow while standing at the runway or at your parking spot. Performance is at the best level it can be for this aircraft. Performance is easily comparable to the default 737-400 included in Microsoft Games Flight Simulator 2004. If you don’t have any issues with the default 734 you won’t have any problems with Captain Sim’s extraordinary Boeing 707.

The Boeing 707 was a legendary aircraft in it’s time for many reasons, and one of those legendary features was its flight. With four engines pulling this massive plane, it could reach record-breaking speeds at that time of 600+ MPH. This aircraft revolutionized the comfort and efficiency of international air travel back in the 50s and 60s. Captain Sim has captured the feel of flight in a 707 extremely well and with the amazing sound package included adds a distinct feeling of realism into your flight. Captain Sim has really made the flight experience of this aircraft a legendary one.

Captain Sim has delivered us an amazing aircraft here with the Legendary Boeing 707. The plentiful details, beautiful interior, terrific exterior, amazing flight dynamics, killer sounds, and the ease of installation combined make this aircraft add-on a legendary product from the Captain Sim team. For their hard work, determination, and accomplishment I award Captain Sim a 9.0 out of 10 for their Boeing 707!

Good review Ludo, this aircraft has come to mind a few times before. It really looks great in shots that's for sure.
