My flight simulator computer has gone splat again...Just after I got a couple of payware packages! I can boot it in safe mode, but no image shows up in normal boot...From what I've tried, I think more than a driver is involved.

I may try a repair, but the last time I did that, I ended up making the computer unbootable...

Part of me wants to say "Fschk it!" with Flightsimming and find a new hobby...

That's not going to happen...but I'm trying to figure out a way to back everything up so that I don't have to rebuild it a third time...

Here's hoping!

Probably a full re-format, but I'll try a repair (I have a few tricks up my sleeve yet.

I also am working on backing up stuff verfying them ect...I think of it as practice for when (and if) I end up with a Tech position at some company or another.

I'll be gone from Dec 29 to Jan 1 or 2nd by the way, so if you don't hear from me a few days, don't panic...

Jordon,
what a dirty bummer... mad2.gif

Did you try going into Computer Management/Device Manager and removing anything under display adapters then reboot and reinstall the video card drivers.

that would be the first thing I would try. It sounds like a borked up video display driver.

When I got this PC one of the RAM cards was plugged in the wrong way round so when I started up the thing it just had a blank screen. Simple things are usually the answer is what I have found.

Indeed I did...remember that I could only boot into Safe Mode and VGA mode. The latter gave me the ability to use the DVD-burner. I was able to back everything up except most of my aircraft onto DVD (something about the format doesn't like some of the files in the Aircraft folders).

Unfortunately, this was not simple. I think it went all the way to the Registry. I tried everything to no avail. In the end I had to re-format/re-install/ etc...

The good news, I put a second Hard Drive in temporarily and was able to back up all the important stuff...

I made a 30GB partition off my 200GB HD (the one I use for flying...I use removable drive carriers and have 2 installaions of XP)

Sooo, once I had the OS, Anti-Virus, etc. installed and updated, I installed FS2004, Copied over the files, and Volia!

Back to where we started from!

So...it's all good!
