GREETINGS
Welcome to Caislean Weyr!

It’s the end of the 9th Interval and Pern’s fate lays in the hands of Caislean Weyr.

A cataclysm the likes of which the planet has not seen since its creation has rendered much of the northern lands useless and it’s the job of the few struggling dragonriders left on Pern to re-colonize these harsh lands before Thread returns.

Name: Kaliyer (KAH-lee-uhr}
Nickname(s): Aliy

Sex/gender: female

Age: 17

Height: 5'4

Weight: 130

Physical Appearance:
Relatively small; she has a delicate-looking figure, almost as if if if she fell, she would shatter into a thousand pieces. She's slim and pretty, in an innocent way.

Kaliyer's hair is a color sort of between dirty-blonde and brown - it is light, and almost appears...greyish under pale light, though it really isn't, and that's not really how it looks. It's like a light brown so insubstantial it looks almost grey, though it does not give her the appearance of being old. But when in sunlight or under some orange-y light, her hair turns to a beautiful golden-brown. Her hair goes down to just a few inches below her shoulders.

Her eyes are a very light and pale blue, like the sky just after the sun has risen. Sometimes they appear an insubstantial, misty blue-grey color, that goes with her hair astonishingly well. Her eyes are kind of big - not overly so, of course, just enough to add to the innocent, delicate look she has.

Kaliyer's skin is a strange, pale ivory, almost translucent. It only adds to the delicate look already given off by her small frame and pale eyes. There are few blemishes on it - though her skin bruises very easily, and any bruise or cut stands out and looks wrong on her, they also heal rather quickly. One pale scar adorns her left cheekbone, throwing her face slightly off, the result of a childhood accident; a matching one runs up her right palm, a marker of the time she broke a glass and then cut herself on a shard when she fell.

Likes: peace, quiet, animals, nature, being alone or nearly so, fairness, flowers, beauty

Dislikes: noise, crowds, being put under pressure, violence, bullying

Sexuality: bi, leans towards males

Personality: Kaliyer is shy. Very shy. And, as shy people often are, she is quiet. Very quiet. She doesn't usually speak unless asked a direct question, or unless she is apologizing for something. She is more social with her good friends, but for the most part people don't hear her too often. And when she does speak, her voice is soft as well, soft and sweet.

She is not run-away-and-hide-can't-bear-to-be-with-anyone- kind of shy, but rather uncomfortable-around-lots-of-people-always-uncertain-of-herself shy. She second-guesses herself, not convinced that others will like her. And being with a lot of people has always made her claustrophobic. She'd rather be alone, or with only one or two people at a time (which is rather unfortunate, seeing as she lives in a bustling weyr). And she is simply nervous around people, period, though she will warm up to her friends enough to like their presence eventually.

Though she rarely makes her thoughts known,Kaliyer is thoughtful and intelligent, and gentle and empathetic. She always has her own subtle view about things, and often they are great insights. But many people don't see her this way, simply because she doesn't show them. She has a unique way of viewing the world, and has never, ever, taken beauty and nature for granted. She enjoys nature - and beauty - for they often go together - and her favorite times are when she can be alone in a place of beautiful nature.

As well as being insightful and close to nature. Kaliyer is gentle and understanding. She doesn't judge people by their looks or ranks, but by how they act. She has good judgemnt, as well, and always has. She is sometimes the only one who recognizes people for who they are, and not who they seem to be. And she always has sympathy and empathy. She will overcome her shyness to comfort another, because she doesn't like seeing others sorrowful.

Kaliyer also has a good bond with animals, and she will also spend time with them, not shy around beasts. They sooth her, and she has always loved animals. She's uncertain of dragons because of their size, but they fascinate her nonetheless - and whers fascinate her even more; she hopes to one day be bonded to one of her own.

Kaliyer is a coward. And she admits it. About as far from outgoing as possible, you'll be hard-pressed to get her to come out of her hidey-hole. She doesn't have the courage to stand up for herself, and is easy to push around. Experience made her wary at her home-Weyr, but after so many Turns living nearly alone, she has to start over in that respect.

Clumsiness is also a good word to describe Kaliyer. She might look graceful - but a lot of the time, she simply isn't. She always has a bruise or two on her, the result of a fall or stumble. She was a bit of a problem with bumping into people as well. She's pretty good at not breaking things - at least, after she broke several valuable pieces of her aunt's - but if there's a loose board anywhere, you can bet Kaliyer's going to be the one to trip over it.

Weaknesses: Her overwhelming shyness holds her back from being all that she can be. She's not outgoing and her shyness gives way to cowardice far too easily. Her clumsiness.
Strengths: Her empathy, and her insight. She understands a lot of things others don't, she really sees into others, and she is overall a more receptive person - to nature, and people - than a lot of people.

Mannerisms: Kaliyer has a habit of taking a small clump of her hair and braiding it when she is idle or thinking. When she's finish, she'll run the small braid through her fingers, feeling the texture, and when it comes out, she'll redo it.

Points of interest: she sometimes sings to herself when she is alone, and likes to keep things relatively neat, is a good cook

History: Kaliyer was born in Fort Weyr in the midst of the Cataclysm. It had suffered, the population of the once-large Weyr severely damaged by trying to deal with the effects of the ill-timed Cataclysm. But Kaliyer, the bastard of two riders, born from the outcome of a Rise, was hidden from the danger. Literally.

Well, figuratively at first. Her parents, who had minimal feelings for each other once the Flightlust wore off but were cordial and both quite fond of their daughter, tried to give her the most normal life possible. They wanted her to grow up as a normal Weyrbrat - unfortunately, though, that wasn't easy, her being so shy she would never have cut it in Fort if it had been thirivng, if the population hadn't been so diminished. As it was, it was hard for young Kaliyer to make friends in the Weyr, so quick was she to shy away from others. Though the dragons present in the Weyr fascinated young Kaliyer, they also intimidated her as well, being so...large. They took up too much space - and it was crowded enough! It didn't help that the timid girl got bullied often by older weyrbrats - too shy to stand up for herself.

But they did the best they could to keep her happy - keeping her youth free of the taint of the Cataclysm. However, that could only last so long. Eventually they had no choice, as the natural disasters - though how such things could possibly be natural was unknown to Kaliyer's parents - grew closer and more frequent, and their daughter was put it more and more danger. They decided to send Kaliyer to live with her mother's sister, before something happened to her.

It was a good plan, and executed just in time, for not long after Kaliyer was shipped away, disaster hit Fort Weyr strongly. But Kaliyer was safe, in a cabin with her aunt in a cothold in a remote valley that spoke of little dangers - few trees and sparse grass to burn, the hills around too minimal for the possibility of avalanche in an earthqake occurred....as far as things went, it wasn't the most dangerous of places. If the animals they hunted got sick, if meteors decided to rain down on them again, if their only water source got polluted - it would be over for Kaliyer and her aunt Syphea. But luck was giving them a fighting chance.

So for several years Kaliyer lived with her aunt and their feline, Sunrise, happy as was possible. While Kaliyer did sometimes wish for someone her age to be able to talk with, she was glad for the quiet place, and happy with her friendly aunt, who was her best friend for a long time. However, things were starting to get worse. The animals they hunted for food - their main diet, with the sparse vegetation - were leaving. Sensing that change was coming; trying to escape it. That was bad. It left Kaliyer and Syphea with less to eat; they tried hunting for the fish in their lake, but over the course of a Turn the water grew worse, and some of the fish were dying. They had to stop eating them for fear of getting sick.

Not knowing what else to do, Syphea sent Kaliyer to live in the one surviving Weyr of the north, to protect her - Caislean Weyr. Kaliyer didn't like going to a bustling, crowded Weyr - nor did she want to leave her aunt. But Syphea wished not to leave her home of many Turns, and knew her time was coming soon anyhow. But she wanted Kaliyer safe, and would not allow her to stay.

So Kaliyer left. For the next few Turns, she lived an odd, different way of life, one she was unused to. At fourteen Turns, nobody knew what to do with her - except to put her to work. They knew she was intelligent, not a drudge at all, but there was really nowhere else for her to go - and she really didn't mind, so, for a Turn and a half Kaliyer did drudge work. However, when she Turned 17 she asked to become a candidate - a wher candidate. Knowing she had potential, the leaders agreed to let her have the chance to earn one of Pern's now surprisingly-important whers.

Okay, charm, I like your style, but this character needs some more flaws, STAT. She is... way too close to "perfect" for my comfort.
