firstly. use alot of air. i know the tuba requires a rather demanding amount of air to produce a good tone. thus use more air. u can start off by keep practicing your method books. that will be quite effective.
secondly. improving your range is a good idea. this allows u to double on the bass trombone (yes on the tuba). although this is not commonly done but some piece allows u to do so (eg singapore rhapsody 1st movement, on certain parts). playing double bass parts are also possible. thirdly. practice. |

on the other hand, search the net for tips and tricks on playing. applies for all instruments. from what i know, there are extensive discussions for saxophone and trumpet playing in the form of forums.
