Sitting upon a chair in the far corners of the Library, the Weyrwoman stared down at the hide in front of her. Her fingers tapped ceaselessly upon the wooden table as her brows furrowed as she silently placed the handle of the quill between her teeth. She gnawed on it in an unwomanly fashion for a brief moment before her attention turned towards the other open scrolls around her. The other scroll didn’t help her frustration either as she took a deep breath and dropped her quill upon the scroll that contained numbers and dates. It was all wrong.

Slowly she leaned her head back as she balanced upon the legs of her chair. A hand ran over her hair that was tightly rolled into a bun in the back of her head, causing her features to seem somewhat strict despite her jovial face. The scrolls weren’t making any sense, and neither were the dragons. There had always been a pattern to threadfalls, but of course, the ninth pass had been late, and another one before that one, yet it didn’t mean that this one was supposed to have changed patterns…

~What’s wrong, dearheart?~ Ludieth inquired drowsily from her ledge, a yawn showing in her voice as she lazed in the sunlight outside. It was beautiful out.

It’s these scrolls, darling… It says that thread is going to fall in the next five turns, however… None of the Queens have been rising more frequently, and the clutches are still small. At this rate, it is going to be a very brutal pass… The Weyrwoman spoke to the dragon as she looked back at the scrolls, staring at the dates, and looking at the placement of the Redstar. By the images, thread should have been falling for a turn now, and there hadn’t been a single fall yet… But the dates showed that they still had about five turns to wait before it fell. The star was too close… It was all very frustrating… Of course, she wasn’t even supposed to be looking at these scrolls, she was the Weyrwoman, and she had better things to worry about… The stress was still present. She could see the red star through the Star Gazer*, hanging directly in view, exactly to the east, looming closer still.

~We’ll be ready to fight when the time comes to fight. Fret not.~ The Gold assured her rider strongly.

Haithiara wasn’t assured as she leaned forward again and continued to write numbers upon her scroll… The numbers and dates were off. They had to be.

Spiros paced through "his" library, carefully putting loose records back in their place, wiping away dust where it was needed. Little Lady perched on his shoulder, occasionally chirping softly in his ear. She liked watching while he worked, perhaps sensing that it was one of the only times he was content.

When he rounded one of the shelves, he found a woman sitting at one of the study tables, bent intently over a record. A closer look told him it was the Weyrwoman. He reached up and ran a finger down Lady's back, partly to reassure himself. He hadn't interacted much with the Weyrwoman since his arrival. Would she object to being interrupted by his ugliness?

It would be more impolite not to serve her, though. Quietly, he walked up to her table. (Because, you know, creeping up like that is really going to help the situation.) "Can I help you, Weyrwoman?" He asked, wondering what she was looking at.

There were voices. Kirai shifted a little bit, lifting her head from where it hovered inches over a document about amplifying the effects of numbweed. She spent innumerable hours in between the stacks, and aside from the Archivist - green firelizard, docile, always with the man and therefore easy to avoid - she had never heard another soul there. For most of her time at the weyr, she had assumed that Spiros did not like others in the library; she could not think why no one else would enter, otherwise. Anxiously she tucked some stray hairs behind her ears and listened to his voice, trying to ascertain who else was in the room. Did they have flits? Would they mind if she was here?

She had taken the time to find a number of escape routes from the library early on in her studies, so that she would never have to come across Spiros' path and risk confrontation with him and his 'lizard, and she debated for a moment making her escape before she accidentally drew attention to herself. Re-rolling a scroll and gently shutting the books around her, she carefully returned them to their rightful places. The two were rather far off, and she could likely leave without so much as being heard... but he was with the Weyrwoman. If Haithiara was here, there must be a reason for it. Curiosity welled up within her, and carefully the greenrider padded towards the others, slipping into the row beside them to listen.

Frustration abounds, she wasn’t even focusing upon the sound of others in the library as she tried another route to explain the sudden closeness of the Red Star. The only reason why she knew that there was another person in the library was because of the Fire-Lizard’s random sounds, and even that was easily ignored. If she could ignore the yelling of the Weyrleader, and the whistles of the Bronze riders when her dragon was near rising, she could ignore the sound of one small little creature upon the Archivist’s shoulder.

With a swift scratch through the section of the hide that she was writing on, Haithiara fought back the urge to simply throw the whole thing across the library and stalk back to her Gold, where they could go for a leisure fly. But after this was done, she’d have to check on the sands, and then she’d back to work with the Weyrwoman. And after that, she was sure that the Leader of hers would want her to do something ridiculous like oil his boots! She scoffed… There were days when acting the proper lady didn’t bug her at all, but she missed the freedom of her will at times, the offer that the Greens and Blues had made to her that great turn before… She longed for it desperately with her heart… It was only a fallen dream.

“Not unless you can make these numbers and dates change on their own.” The Weyrwoman stated with great distaste - and somewhat of a snarl - that was obviously aimed at the scrolls. She had responded without thinking, and suddenly her head snapped upwards. Her eyes focused upon the male before her, narrowing as she looked at him, putting a name to the face of the man that had dared to sneak up with her. He wasn’t a bronze rider.

The thought brought a smile to her eyes as they lost all of her hostility. “I’m sorry… I’ve been in here for a few candlemarks now…” She offered as an explanation, not wanting to make the poor Archivist think that she was going to bite his head off because of scrolls.

“Are there any more scrolls on threadfalls, and the reactions of the dragons before it fell?” She inquired. If he even dared to say that this a man’s job… She was going Weyrwoman on him!

Spiros frowned, taken aback by the Weyrwoman's words. He was a little bit personally offended by her annoyance. His records were like his children, and it wasn't his fault if they didn't contain the information she wanted. At least she apologized for snapping. Some people did get rather upset if they had to stay in here and study for very long. But, "So have I," he said with what might be a bemused smile.

He made no comment about what the Weyrwoman was reading about. Privately, he did think it was a little odd that the Weyrwoman, not the 'Leader, was researching Thread, but it was none of his business. Those records, at least, weren't the ones he had been asked to get rid of.

"Yes, I believe there are some daily records that were kept in the days leading up to Thread," he told her. "If you'll wait a moment, I'll go get them." Without waiting for a reply, he turned on a heel and went to find the records.

As luck would have it, he started to turn down the row Kirai was hiding in...
