So... What was the last anime you saw? Are you watching more than one at the same time?
How was said anime? Was it a waste of time? Did you enjoy yourself? Do you feel like the anime could use some more _? Where did you watch it from? The last anime I saw was Slayers Revolution (ep 9) on Netflix. It's the fourth Slayers tv series, and was released about 10 years after the other 3. While it holds properties that make it a genuine 'Slayers' anime, it feels really freaking rushed. Especially in the beginning. Like it was made for the ADHD generation of today instead of the All-Around-Enjoyment generation of the late 1990's. The animation is also different, but not inexcusably. I'm enjoying it with cautious optimism thus far, as things have started getting really interesting. The one thing that really bugs me about the series is the new dubbed voice of Xellos. It's completely different and dare I say whinier than the old voice. His new voice makes me want to hit him (though that may be the intention). Uh... That's all I have to say on it so far. Dragon Slave! *Fwoosh!* -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? Lemmi Tell You Something...

My anime intake right now is way down, I think the last I watched was some of Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I definitely enjoyed it, but I know it won't be for everyone. I watched it via some clips on Youtube a while back. I've been meaning to watch more, just haven't had the chance, usually too preoccupied (in a good way). Definitely more the sort of thing that will be enjoyed more by those with at least a passing knowledge of some very Japanese things, and also a darker sense of humor. It works well as an anime, perhaps even better than the manga, in some respects, in that you don't have the chance of glimpsing some of the gags as you're making your way through. As for Slayers, I didn't know they'd brought out anything new, wow. As far as Xelloss' voice actor, that's why I watch anime with the original Japanese voice actors, there's far less chance of wanting to ram a screwdriver into my ear to stop the hurting of annoying (or just plain terrible) dubbed voice talent. Not that there aren't fine English voice actors, for example, Claudia Black--who more often does video game voices, apart from her regular acting--is just plain yummy (great as Morrigan in Dragon Age Origins). And...ahem, Elmekia Lance! |

Right now I'm watching an anime called Honey and Clover. It's about a bunch of art students in college going about their daily lives.
It's a very calming, down to earth anime. =D And funny. -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? Lemmi Tell You Something...

I've been catching up on a few, the last I saw a lot of was Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Good, kinda twisted in plot and what happens, definitely not a show for the younger folks. Wishing there were more than 26 episodes though. Not a series to watch if you're looking for something upbeat, there is some comedy but it's a twisty crime+supernatural show, and the events sometimes repeat in different ways which not everyone would like.
Watched Kamen no Maid Guy too. Hilarious and bizarre. For a change it's a woman who ends up with a maid, a hulking giant of a guy in a maid costume, kinda creepy but a good guy who is very good at his job, if nothing else. Going to catch up on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya also, only watched one episode of that so far, but know about the basic premise of reality bending girl who probably shouldn't find out about her powers. I'm sure there's tons of other stuff I need to watch too. |

Long time no see babe. But anyway Slayers Revolution and Slayers Evolution - R suck to be honest. I actually watched them not that long ago, the last anime I have watched, and I was extremely disappointed with the rehash. My biggest complaint was that is they pretty much forgot that the whole copy Rezzo thing happened. They ignored everything that happened in the second part of the first series. Gaav is dead but they casted Gaav Flare a few times. Annoying. Somethings were good, like characters, humor, music, but over all the show was bad.
Now what they should have done was was try to continue the world from Try. Val a little more grown, maybe Gourry getting the sword back from the over worlders from darkstars worlds. Maybe even fusing the weapons together to be an even more badass blade. My idea for a antagonist was a swordsmen of dark that can wield the raguna blade like gourrys sword of light. It would of made an interesting struggle for the heros and divulge more into the lord of nightmares. But all we got was a stuffed animal and Rezzo the Red Priest. Ruby eyed... ******. Yeah I'm a little disappointed... -------------------- |

Yeah, Now that I've watched the entire thing I kinda agree with you on Slayers Rev sucking balls. It's a very forgettable anime. I only remember that Naga makes a cameo and doesn't really do anything outside of being stupid, and there's that one furry green dude... Who I can't remember the name to at the moment.
It seems like a fan-made anime. They liked the first half of Slayers TV, and ran with a semi-direct sequel, forgetting most of the anime except for the sword of light business. Semi on topic, but I've been watching the second half of Slayers TV. I have this dvd 3 season Slayers package I haven't gone through. I'm very confused why they re-voiced Amelia on 'Tape 4' (dvd 3) for her first few eps. She doesn't even sound like Amelia... More annoying in fact.. And louder, like they couldn't adjust the speaker properly to fit the other characters. So that's a minor bummer. -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? Lemmi Tell You Something...

You dragged me out of seclusion with this one Kelli, you happy now?
The last "anime" I watched was Batman: Gotham Knights and was severely disappointed in it. Once again Warner Brothers shows they haven't clue of how to properly use international talent. Hopefully the Rurouni Kenshin live action will be an exception since they're just distributors. (But then again I just watched the entire Superman the Animated Series over the last two days and that was animated in Japan and Korea to American designs, so does that count as Anime in your book? Cause that means The Simpsons are anime too.) However, I get the feeling you're talking about Japanese released series rather than simply items produced there. Going by that rule the last series I've been watching has been Rosario+Vampire, and the 4 free episodes I've found online are interesting enough to have made me consider buying the rest. I look at it as a Darksiders High kind of thing. The last full series I watched and really enjoyed was Chaos; HEAd, it actually had me sitting there going "Wha??" and backing up and rewatching older episodes and sequences to figure out what was going on. The end was a bit of a letdown, but it was a pretty fun ride. As to the Slayers, it's an awesome ride, yes there's production and story issues but over all it's one of the best of the second wave of anime stuff. Of course it's no Tenchi Muyo!, but then again it doesn't have the disaster that was was Tenchi Muyo:Ryoohki either. -------------------- "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are like swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath, death." spoken by Smaug, from "The Hobbit"

Ya know... I feel outta place right about now. I've never seen Rosario+Vampire, or Darksiders High, or Chaos, or... No wait, I saw the third Tenchi OVA. It was pretty bad.
Ever since the original director of the Tenchi OVA died the series as a whole has gone downhill. It went from some real interesting and unique space anime stuff (harem-related), to only centering on the plot of 'new girl appears and takes Tenchi away!" Pity, really, as it was such a good series before that. I no longer have Netflix, so I may have to revert back to piracy to see things. I want to collect Hunter X Hunter Volumes 2-4, but 3 and 4 are practically impossible to find now . I've also been looking at animes I have on VHS. I recently watched all of Phantom Quest Corp and I'm currently watching the first three eps of GeoBreeders. -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? Lemmi Tell You Something...

My memory plays tricks once in awhile and I had the wrong name, it's not Darksiders, it's Darkstalkers, and I was meaning that Rosario could actually be a High School version of Darkstalkers. (Which to my knowledge, aside from a few manga things, which I believe were parody, seen over a decade ago, does not exist.) I hope I don't have to explain Darkstalkers, the Capcom video game, but trust me, in my mind that's high praise, even if there's no Felicia character (yet, I hope.) But in case you forgot....
![]() I downloaded the Crunchyroll App and have been really pleased with it's performance, the free sign up allows quite a few newer shows at no cost. (until someone licenses them for US distribution anyways) Which means I had to get hooked on something, and it was Bodacious Space Pirates, a lovely blend of traditional and cgi work, and a very misleading name, I don't think they quite understood what is referred to commonly with "bodacious." -------------------- "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are like swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath, death." spoken by Smaug, from "The Hobbit"

Oh! DarkStalkers. Okay, I've seen it. I think I own a VHS or two somewhere >> Lemmi check...
Okay *after knocking a dome lamp on my face and nearly lighting the room on fire* I have DarkStalkers Revenge vol 2 and 3. I'm sure I've seen more than that, but yeah. Forgot to bring this up in my last post, but I'm also watching the original Zoids series. SixInchFox (that's his comp name. He also played quite a few characters on MZDM, at least in chat) sent me the series. I love being reminded that stuff I grew up with was extremely awesome. -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? Lemmi Tell You Something...

I'm glad you know what I'm talking about and that I'm no more insane than I thought I was.
I thought you were younger than I, Zoids dates back to my era, oh wait, I bet you're talking about the late 90's rereleases and the new anime, not the classic commercial stuff from the early 80's Clicky on the youtube link to see the old promo film from Japan and wonder how mess up things were back then. Plus remember we have to rename stuff like crazy for the American Market, so check out "Robostrux." http://youtu.be/mhNhIIhcPFA Even more fun, Kimono My House is still around after all this time: http://www.kimonomyhousetoys.com -------------------- "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are like swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath, death." spoken by Smaug, from "The Hobbit"

I only just recently heard about the new Slayers stuffs, despite what was said above, I'll probably still watch at some point, as it's still one of my favorite series after all this time.
Also in a happy place now after seeing Darkstalkers mentioned. Good times. Also smiling at the Mouretsu Space Pirates mention. I know, technically it's "Bodacious" but I'd rather repress the name or worse, "Miniskirt." I'd rather think Fierce Space Pirates. Great series, really enjoying it and glad I checked it out. I'm checking out several things. Jormungand is fun, arms dealer woman and her team, including a child soldier. Only saw one episode so far, but liking it. Lots of catching up to do yet. But got around to seeing Simoun finally. Saw some of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, not sure what to think yet still watching it. I could say the same for El Cazador de la Bruja, though being the last of the "girls with guns" trilogy (Noir, Madlax and now this) I'm hoping for good things. There's some others I'm looking forward to seeing like Fate/Zero and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, probably some others I'm forgetting. |

Heh, yes the Miniskirt reference would have been worse. I'm just curious as to how the next story arc is going to go with 8 episodes left in the season ( yes I know 6, but I haven't seen 19 & 20 because they're still on the paid subscriptions, not the free yet.)
I hate to admit, but I consider Darkstalkers new school stuff, I really am a dinosaur in both age and taste, fortunately I've have been rediscovering Galaxy Express 999 of late on Hulu...while I wait for the new episodes of Teenage Space Pirates in Training* to become available. *somehow I think there's a marketable name for the US Market -------------------- "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are like swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath, death." spoken by Smaug, from "The Hobbit"

El Cazador de la Bruja was the bitch. I loved that one.
Another one I liked that was like that anime was 'Third: the girl with the blue eyes', however that one went sour when the animation department got jumbled. Ending wasn't that good and two of the episodes looked like absolute crap. My buddy Pat let me borrow a bunch of anime. Tell me if you've seen any of these and if they're good or not: Iria 'Zeriam the animation' Project Arms Mobile Suit Gundam (He told me to avoid the short movie at the end of the dvds) X -------------------- You Think I Have A God Complex? I'll be looking forward to watching all of El Cazador then, and I may check out the other one you mentioned.
In a similar vein, Canaan was good as well, but it got a bit darker in the last few episodes. Not Grave of the Fireflies territory by any means, but it could have ended on a bit nicer note. I can't really speak for Mobile Suit Gundam, which I think is the original, so it will be older than the others you mentioned. So animation wise, something to be prepared for. I haven't seen it myself, all I've seen some of was Gundam Wing (a series I meant to finish, just haven't yet). That said, since Gundam became such a huge franchise, it could be good. I just can't say personally. Iria: Zeiram, no clue how good or not it may be. I checked out a trailer on Youtube, wasn't exactly something that really caught my attention. Although it was just a preview, so it may be very good, I can't say from the trailer. X. Now this is another story, if it's the X I'm thinking of, it's by CLAMP. I saw the film, which was kind of dark in it's resolution (I think just about everyone got killed, if I remember right). However, I'm thinking that might be the TV series you're talking about, I haven't seen all of it, another I need to finish, but what I saw I certainly liked. Just be prepared for a number of people to die, maybe, if it's anything like the film version (haven't finished reading the manga either). Also really enjoyed the OP song for it. Anyone who knows those better could speak to them more than I could right now. Hope they're enjoyable for you though. |
